    The culture of a country specifically the music and the dances, are one of the most important things. Folks never let this tradition die so joyful and beautiful . Cheers from from the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴

    My grandpa (Resting in Heaven now) served in WWII as part of the postwar recovery process in Nagasaki, and he had a great old story about a time when he and a couple of his buddies helped to alleviate boredom and depression among the Nagasaki locals by teaching them to square dance!

      I also tell them it's the best form of exercise and it's really is fun! Though sadly most do not do this style anymore and do more modern music.

    Fantastic to see this Square Dance performance that reflects the culture of USA. Very fascinating to see the Dancers graceful movement in synchronisation. I heard this word " Square Dance" while listening to Wynton Marsallis Jazz and later read about it in a short story titled "Voices " by Alice Munro and thus landed on this video to watch this much talked about dance form. Phil Jamison sings so light heartedly with charm. Salutations and Greetings to all the Dance Partners and the team that gave me the opportunity to watch this Video sitting in a far corner of the world - Chennai , India .

      @folkloricmoon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@anna-if8fi Actually, try again! People from France, Scotland, and England alike settled in America. Of course, it originated in those areas, but the people were the ones who spread it to America. They aren't vultures, they just developed it and spread it. It's called cultural diffusion. When one person who has a specific culture moves to a place with a wholly different culture, they subsequently spread their cultures to each other.

      Square dance is made of 4 couples who begin in a square and each move flows with the square only. A square can have 6 couples or If there are 8 couples they will have 2 squares set. If you were to see it from an elevated point of view, it would be more obvious. There is also a style called Round Dance, very popular in some areas especially central Appalachia where I am (WV). Round Dance is well suited to situations with odd numbers of couples. Round Dance can accommodate everyone regardless of numbers as long as each has a partner

    Bro. I took weight room in HS because i didnt want to square dance. Didnt know what it was and didnt like dancing then. Looking at it now i really wish i did, because this looks like a blast. Completely unironically goes super hard, or maybe i just have rare tastes for my generation.

    I remember dancing Rip and Snort in college. Only the caller never identified WHO so it was a race to be the fastest to head in first. We did bonk heads a few times, but it is fun, Square Dancing.

    Square dancing can be done to any kind of music. There was a caller that I danced to who used Pink Cadillac to square dance to.

    Speaking as a 22 yr. old to fellow young people. Square dancing is so much fun! It also could be considered a kind of sport to! You need practice to get good and it is a very fun way to exercise. If you like the kind of dancing they do now days you would love this! Find someone in your area that teaches if you can, bring a crowd of friends [Make sure to dare the boys into coming along because boys are scarce] and have FUN! I have found a club and been doing it a year and it is the best fun I ever have had! We young people need to step up. I know at least in my area the young people won't come and learn because it is for "Old People" and square dance clubs that have been around for years are having to close from lack of people. My own club had to close at the end of 2017 because there where just not enough people. Have not been able to go to a diffrent club due to weather since and I sure miss dancing. So.......I dare all you young people to go out and try it for a few weeks, you will LOVE IT!!!

    As a so-called 'modern' square dance caller, I do still occasionally use 'rip and snort' for a bit of fun.
