I am constantly shocked that Forgeworld kits, the most expensive things GW sells going into the high hundreds to thousands of dollars, are also the worst packaged, routinely come broken, warped, and missing parts, and take hours of prep time to get them in a state you can assemble. Yet somehow they've convinced a significant subset of their audience, that this is a sign of how "advanced" you are.
Honestly, it's just the usual time-sink fallacy along with fan-boy-ism. Nothing more. You can't support bad craftsmanship in any form, it's not defensible.

@@TabletopTime gently walks towards a glass display cabinet lol ! I’d love to see an episode of where you store all of the past models the teams painted
I bought 2 Tau Tigersharks with the heavy railguns a long time ago. Not only were the main guns warped, they were broken in a way that made it impossible to put together and not have it look janky (resin shards and splinters in so many places you couldn't hide the brakes). The burst cannons were warped (each has 4 tiny barrels that if they aren't perfectly aligned with each other they look obviously messed up). Even the main body of one of the models was deformed in a way that I had to excavate a large portion of sculpted resin just to fit the railgun in its slot before resculpting the part I had to destroy. I knew I'd have to do a bit of advanced modeling, but destroying large chunks of a vehicle just to fit it together was kind of stupid. I do resin 3d printing, so I know how hard it is to get the resin to cure and have decent dimensional accuracy, but they're using resin molds that are, in theory, always dimensionally correct. These beautiful models were so poorly made that I never got to use them in a game and was never able to get them to a state where I felt proud to show them off. I spent nearly 2 months trying to repair the damage, and reached the point of no longer giving a shit. That experience permanently soured my view of FW to the point where I didn't trust them enough ever but another of their models.
Your concerns about the WH community article are actually a really good point in microcosm. When you stop painting for yourself and start painting for a deadline it sucks the joy out of the process. Fulgrim is a model you were clearly hyped about but it’s sad to see the issues with P&P and stress with the WarCom deadline kill your buzz. I think you did a great job with the mini and TTT is probably as visible a platform as WarCom anyway!
I’ve changed a couple years ago to painting Gundam Kits. The complexity, quality of the plastic and technical designs is just amazing. Building the high detailed ‘Real Grades’ and the (post 2011) ‘Master Grades’ are just amazing to build, they are complex yet designed so well that building is fun and satisfying. The plastic quality and the assembly proces is just miles ahead of what you get from GW, for just fraction of the price. I recently started a Warhammer project again and the price I had to spend on the miniatures left a nasty aftertaste. I hope GW will step up their game as i can not escape the feeling I got ripped off, and this really takes away from the pleasure of the hobby experience.
forgeworld stuff are basically garage kits. but i have worked on garage kits from Japan and China that are half the price and double the quality of FW stuff.
So awesome to see something that you were able to put so much effort into. It came out amazingly. Sorry it took so much out of you, but it is truly inspiring to see how great a job you can do when you have the time and can do your best.
One of the big questions I get asked in my painting adventure is "Why don't I receive commissions?". This is the answer. In between just a regular job and painting the hobby for me, the freedom I have and not putting a ton of deadlines onto it, keeps me coming back to the hobby. I don't even play the game anymore, I'm just really enthralled with painting the models and coming up with new techniques with all the paints that are out there and new color schemes(about all the time I have for it these days). You did a tremendous job on cleaning up the model. I've only heard stories of the rumored Forge world kits and after the initial excitement, you can really go off the deep end in how to execute how you'll construct and paint and that really wears you down. Also glad to hear another happy Scale 75 user out there. I love their paints. The best thing you can do is diversify and find which works best so not being entrenched in Games workshop colors is refreshing. Cheers, glad to see the prince of perfection demanded so much in return. Looks really fantastic. I miss the old days when I could paint nonstop into the wee hours of the morning. Keep on keeping on.
This was such an amazing paint job. And it feels so much more based in the reality of the hobby then most paint job videos I see where everything is working out perfect. Especially with models that I really care about, I find myself drained up in all the work I put myself up to just because I was hyped about it and really wanted to give it the perfection it deserves, and as a consequence I drain 300% of my available energy over days or weeks, and in the end instead of appreceation it always feels like a chore, and a battle I am happy to find the way out of.
Hey I just want you to know, you three at TTT are some of my biggest painting inspirations and I respect the hell out of your for putting the effort into this model that you felt it needed. I spent an entire day a couple days ago painting a single marine (first marine I've ever painted) and I don't even like how it turned out so I'm probably going to strip him. But if I didn't watch your videos and understand just how good painting can be I probably wouldn't and just accept it being bad. Y'all push me to be better so thank you. Anyway, Fulgrim looks amazing as all of your stuff does, I can't wait to see you paint Exodus as I'm a huge fucking Alpha Legion nerd.
Beyond the fact that you have painted an utterly gorgeous model, I have such a massive amount of respect for how you tackled this. You're honest about the downsides but it's clearer than ever before how much you love the hobby and how everything you say comes from a place of really wanting the best for everyone. And also to push through and complete such a taxing project is mad respect - you guys are the kind of people I'm ecstatic to have representing the scene!
All I have to say is WOW! This is such a great paintjob, and I can see why you wanted to paint this model properly. You are a great painter, and I hope you'll do more like this on the channel in the future.
dave I sort of feel your pain. I had a video I wanted to get out much earlier than i could too, but between how long the project took and that project actively hurt my health in it's early stages, instead of being out at the time i wanted to put it out it came out more than three months after my intended date
That's incredible. I really love the contrast tones created with the purple, amber and green. And the wings stand out so much more with the flesh tones!
Dave's raw take on this project was a nice peak behind the curtain. I live vicariously though him on this one. Thank you for giving this video time to ripe by sinking so much time into this one. ❤️

I super appreciate your commitment to the community in this video. It's creators like you that will help change the landscape of the hobby for the better for sure
I'm fairly certain at this point that I haven't ever seen a video about a forgeworld product or just a resin product from GW that hasn't had some kind of quality issue. This in turn makes me believe that GW doesn't have a quality control department at all and they just remove items from molds and toss them into a box to be shipped.
This video resonated with me quite a lot, sometimes I catch myself thinking the exact same things, and I don't even have a schedule ! I really enjoyed this video, it felt sincere ! Love you guys! Great Paintjob btw

Thanks for taking the time to make this video Dave. You did a beautiful job. Hope you are able to look after yourself. You all deserve as much love as your put into your videos.

Holy carp that's a fine, fine job considering the time involved. You may think that you fell short but anyone would be proud to have that end result on display.
I love the outcome of the model - it's beautiful, amazing and it's clear the work you put into it. Your skills are clearly growing and getting better and better! (They were great to start with too, this isn't a criticism). I love that you put your take on the 'box art' colours whilst still staying true to the concept. You did a really REALLY good job and (imo) the work has paid off. Congrats! I hate that it destroyed your enjoyment of painting the model because of a time crunch, although I appreciate the candour. I feel like you need a long sleep, some warm hugs and a cosy fire after this one! I know content is important to creators - I just don't think it should come at the expense of your health and mental wellbeing. Even with a pre-release or release day; I think the majority of TTT's fans would be just as (if not more) happy waiting for you to finish it in your own time rather than have you go through the mental and physical health stress trying to fit a deadline. Please take care of yourself (and colleagues), content is not worth a hospital stay! You're human, we understand. Take care :)
I really like starting with a black base and then dry brushing purple for the snake tail. The marble is fantastic. I might need to steal that. But my favorite part is the skin. You did an exceptional job.
Wish more reviewers were like this with their giving true honest opinions, instead of pandering to companies or jumping on hate trains. Showing appreciation for the model and the detailed work the sculptors/manufacturers created but willing to state areas that can be improved or just not good. As someone who follows the word of Slaanesh and would love to get their hands on this model one day in the future, I appreciate the comments and insights.
Amount of preparation this model needed is outrageous! The way FW packing this model shocked me. At this price product should be ready to assembly and packed safe and sound. On the other side of being negative you've made magnificent job on this model. I bow to you in admiration
the sculpting on the scales of the model is really impressive. its really lifelike, looks almost exactly like my pet hognose snake (tho im pretty sure given this dude is some kinda demon its probably based more on rattlesnake scales, they look essentially identical). i also really like that a little bit of a pattern was added here, even if its not really accurate to any snake pattern, because youll almost never see a snake without scale patterns

Awesome job! I’m just building the FW knight Porphyrion as my first resin kit, and that seems a lot easier than Fulgrim. The Porphyrion has no delicate parts so the preparation has been pretty easy and I’ve not had to pin anything. My first forge world model was the Artemia Pattern Hellhound. It was in decent condition. The main flamer was bent, the tracks were misalignment, and the instructions were terrible. But it was fun to put together and a nice project.
When pinning really thin parts use a jeweller drill bit. 0.1mm and use stripped electrical wire, just the right thickness, it really helps when glued together as even soft metal will hold it in place if it’s drilled in a reasonable length.

Take care everyone, we love what you do. And again Dave, your hard work paid off. I prefer your painting of Fulgrim over the original, it looks great!
You can't support bad craftsmanship in any form, it's not defensible.
well good news, they killed off the brand completely lmao
@@bigmclargehuge1170 no they didnt its just all rolled into the 1 website now. anything that says ships from uk on gw is forgeworld products in there resin
GW focuses on plastic casting, their resin works for low quantity models is,... problematic
I hear you. But people keep buying them. So what incentive do they have to change? Why spend more to improve when it’s not hurting sales?
Thank you for being honest about GW and the sculpt. I was hesitant to get the model and I feel like now I'm glad I didn't. Im not ready for that level.
I admire you for spending so much time working on this. Thank you for sharing the ups and downs of assembling and painting this beautiful model. I really think it's important not only for people who are considering purchasing a particular product, but also for the viewers who are tempted to be overly critical of hardworking TH-cam creators.
Thank you for your honesty in this video. Sometimes it feels like videos are one side or the other and you did a fantastic job of giving criticism while also showing your passion for the hobby. Great job on the painting and just want to say I appreciate the channel.
You guys have always put out such amazing material. I appreciate the honesty, most viewers never really see that side of their favorite content creators. I wish you all the best and hope many more good days to balance the rough ones
The first of your videos I have ever seen, and loved your honesty and skills. I hope GW appreciates what a great collaboration that they have with you.
I think you did an amazing job!
Love how honest and emotional you were with your review of the model. You don’t see that to often!
I don’t see how anyone could transport him for any game play. I see those wings breaking on the table top!
Keep up the great work!
The little spikes on the wings also glue on with a tiny tiny tab of super glue and ping off if you so much as poke them and they hook on everything
@@TabletopTime Emperor's Children will be an instant buy for me when or if they release for 40k, but I can't see myself picking up this model. I really hope we get a plastic version at some point
@@TabletopTime gently walks towards a glass display cabinet lol ! I’d love to see an episode of where you store all of the past models the teams painted
Fully resin cast it! cant break off if he is a cylinder!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a TTT video within 30mins of posting. Neat!
The magic of missing our upload times and releasing in prime NA evening
Thanks for all you do, and we appreciate it.
Going slowly mad looking for perfection whilst painting ... seems lore accurate for this mini 😆
Wow the final result is really impressive. The purple and gold armor and scales are exceptional. My favorite painting job out of all your videos.
Heroic effort on this model! I hope you feel as proud as i am in awe of the final reveal. Phenomenal job!
Nice to see the honest journey prepping & painting a forge world model.
End result paint job & figure looks excellent.
Dave being a champ like usual, spitting facts for half an hour straight.
so much effort went into that small thing. those glamour shots are gorgeous.
I can definitely see this being so much work that it can break you. Absolutely gorgeous final result! Beautiful work.
Oh my gosh, he is absolutely beautiful. I would so love to see your full artistic abilities on painting these models - if this isn't your best, the best would be mind blowing!!
BEAUTIFUL WORK! Its paint jobs like this that make me want to push myself to try new techniques and become a better painter.
Dave, you legend! Stunningly gorgeous work! Big respect for pushing yourself so far for the content and your transparency.
I am always blown away with Tabletop Time content. Thank you.
This video resonated with me quite a lot, sometimes I catch myself thinking the exact same things, and I don't even have a schedule ! I really enjoyed this video, it felt sincere ! Love you guys!
Great Paintjob btw
Dave what a amazing outcome thank you for pushing through to show us this fine peice of art you have created
In 1999 several US Troops spent a bunch of money at the Games Workshop in Swindon, including myself. I also acquired some older Games Workshop minis, the ones that had the base molded to the mini.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video Dave. You did a beautiful job. Hope you are able to look after yourself. You all deserve as much love as your put into your videos.
my favorite video on the channel so far, just the process, all the artistic decisions, the blood sweat and tears.. really great video
I understand how you felt about rushing something just to meet a deadline or would you rather spend more time on it since you care very much about the figure. Really liking the finished result; you did an amazing job and you did the figure justice!
It might have been the most stressfull vídeo in a while, but it has been definetly worth it yo create and definetly a joy yo watch, you are great guys, keep it Up!!! ❤❤❤❤
That paint job is absolutely 🔥🔥🔥 You really put everything and then some into it, and it shows!
Holy carp that's a fine, fine job considering the time involved. You may think that you fell short but anyone would be proud to have that end result on display.
Congratulations, Dave. Fulgrim looks epic. Great paint job. And your honest review is appreciated.
Dude this is epic well done and good on you for sticking with it well worth all the effort and pain you put into the model
Amount of preparation this model needed is outrageous! The way FW packing this model shocked me. At this price product should be ready to assembly and packed safe and sound.
On the other side of being negative you've made magnificent job on this model. I bow to you in admiration
This is, arguably, one of the finest works I've seen you put out, Dave.
I couldn't have done it.
Your honesty helped tremendously as well
I don't think I'd ever be able to paint something like this--let alone to the quality you do. It looks amazing!
I hate that im getting to this video 15 hrs after it was posted but totally worth it. Your did a fantastic job at painting this.
Dave might be one of the most down to earth youtubers out there, and I genuinely love these candid moments, wish you all the best and well done.
the sculpting on the scales of the model is really impressive. its really lifelike, looks almost exactly like my pet hognose snake (tho im pretty sure given this dude is some kinda demon its probably based more on rattlesnake scales, they look essentially identical). i also really like that a little bit of a pattern was added here, even if its not really accurate to any snake pattern, because youll almost never see a snake without scale patterns
best model ive seen done on his channel, thank you for sharing.
Dave.... your mental health and creative results are far more important than production deadlines. but please be reassured your model looks amazing!!!! I hope you put it somewhere in your office where you can see it every day and feel proud of it. Amazing job. wish we could see more of things like this but I know that time does not allow.
Really awesome paint job mate, one to be proud of for sure! Great Job!
You made the right call, by not rushing it to make it in time for the launch of the model. You paint job looks amazing. Take a break and get some sleep, you earned it!
So...at 16:48 i noticed a frame of something that snuck in, thinking it was a sneaky easteregg or some secret message i .... frame by framed it for a while until i found it. looks like your editing had a slight...oopsie, and the next clip got between the gap of two other clips. lol
I tell ya what though m8.... your sacrifice, much like that of hawkboy son of big e, was not in vain. Youve made a GORGEOUS model. Absolutely gorgeous and so far beyond the level of creativity and artistic skill that ive got its frankly unfair...lol :D Youve done amazingly there, well done.
I love that skin tone! It's exactly what I want for my Death Guard demon engines. A step by step video on it would be amazing.
You've done an amazing job Dave. Honestly, if you did decide to have an Emperor's Children army... This would be an absolute Unit to have on the table. Its painted to such an amazing extent that even just having Tabletop Standard minis around it would make it look flawless.
HOLY COW DAVE! THOSE SCALES!!!!! you've done an astonishing job! 👏👏👏
Thanks you for your honstey on this. The figure looks great from a distance as it would appear on a table top so well done. 👏👏👏👏
Awesome job! I’m just building the FW knight Porphyrion as my first resin kit, and that seems a lot easier than Fulgrim. The Porphyrion has no delicate parts so the preparation has been pretty easy and I’ve not had to pin anything. I can imagine cleaning up resin cast on tiny fingers and delicate wings is pure nightmare fuel!
Dave Wonderful Job! Don't sell yourself short. That is Definitely a competition level worthy paint job! It looks amazing! We can really see all the time and Energy that you poured into this Project!
Now Go get some sleep! You definitely deserve it. 🤗
Awesome work mate. I really love that marble too, turned out great.
I love that you talk about the reality of things here, you have a job that's already ultra demanding creating content for youtube, and you can't just shuffle your tasks on a whim to paint fulgrim and do nothing else. That's a great view of the inside. Don't beat yourself up you did great !
Really appreciated the honesty here Dave, the paint job is brilliant from my point of view!
Honestly, I would be excited to see an occasional video where different members of your team get cut loose to paint a passion project. I love the content you guys do but I really do enjoy seeing high level painting as well. Don’t know how it would work with your release schedule but it would be pretty sweet
Wow, amazing results! Thank you for sharing!
WOW, WHAT A PAINT JOB. You sir are an inspiration, you have made me excited about painting again and will be subscribing to your channel.
I think this is one of the best paintjobs you have done on the channel. See you in Tacticus, Guild Leader!
Bravo mate, what an absolute grind on this one. Hope you got the best sleep of your life when you painted that last bit.
I would love 1-2 videos a month where you just go ham on a nice piece and if bleeds over into another video then so be it. I'm here for it. Beautiful work and I want more.
Thanks for video, the miniature looks wonderfull, it is the best painted primatch I've ever seen.
Thanks for this video Dave!
It was amazing too see you paint to such a high degree.
Thanks for your honesty along the journey as well.
Your a Chad Dave 🤘
thats an insane job well done! thank you for all the honesty too i hope you're able to have a bit of a rest and recover
You have done a great job Dave. You and the Table Top Time always do. To the whole team, please try not to burn yourselves out.
My first forge world model was the Artemia Pattern Hellhound. It was in decent condition. The main flamer was bent, the tracks were misalignment, and the instructions were terrible. But it was fun to put together and a nice project.
Beautiful piece, great paint job. Congrats
The simple technique used on the wings turned out great, super effective.
A perfect example of 'work smarter not harder'.
When pinning really thin parts use a jeweller drill bit. 0.1mm and use stripped electrical wire, just the right thickness, it really helps when glued together as even soft metal will hold it in place if it’s drilled in a reasonable length.
OMG that looks amazing!!!! You have much more talent than you give yourself credit for, not to mention the perseverance to complete it.
A paintjob on Fulgrim becoming a torturous pursuit of perfection seems entirely lore accurate
