Usually, they just do it at the same time and I've never seen anything else. You're lucky! :)
If you look at the map there is a room behind it with an door symbol there, and there was even an circle icon for your plunger. Really seems like a skill issue here.
Just use your imagination of where the sister is Example : let’s say she’s on the right spinning downwards, while she’s spinning downwards, the lights went off, just imagine that the hat is still rotating, and when the lights come back on, she’s probably on left downwards
