I think its great that they're building these tools to simplify the game. I find rules heavy stuff gets in the way of roleplaying.

As a note, there's a tool in Roll20 that also allows you to automatically resize your grid so that it matches your map, but it's a bit hidden (something like Map layer, right click on the map, advanced, align on grid)
I'm thinking of checking it out. I just want to use the map on a flat tv laying down and we'll move the mini's on top. In my time as a DM making these tactical maps are a huge slowdown for me. If I can buy a module and have all the maps ready made, my setup time will be a fraction of when it is now.
Great review! Just a question I had, is the player with the subscription the only one with access to add monsters and has to act as dungeon master, or can dungeon master be given to another player without the subscription after joining?
a 3D map transforming DnD into a video game??? what next? violent movie make people violent??? If your game look like a video game it's because the DM make it look like a video game. here what I mean, My sorcerer enter a dungeon stealthily and see 2 guards guarding the doors. The guard didn't notice him yet What are my option: I could run away, but I hate that option since the DM worked hard in preparing this dungeon and it would suck to force him to create a new adventure on the fly 1- I can fireball and kill the guard 2- I can use my magic to avoid the guard 3- I can use a mix of magic and my charisma to talk with the guard I know some DM that if I try to pass through wall, teleport pass the guard or cast invisibility and skip the guard, their is always a good reason to prevent such attempts. The ground too dusty so the guard can see my footprint, the wall are magically protected preventing magical mean to pass through or teleportation even short teleportation, I could approach them and use social interaction, trying to deceive them telling them I'm the new recruit the boss hired, or something. Or maybe mix it with magic and detect their though in order to tell them EXACTLY what they want to hear, or maybe cut the chase and cast suggestion and suggest them to let me pass, but once again some DM will make them attack me on sight without any hope for a discussion or will make the DC so incredibly high that I'm certain to fail without rolling a 20 with a completely optimized character So yes after a few attempts that the DM shut down automatically, I will revert to "I cast fireball, action surge a second fireball and watch them burn in my flame" and just kill all enemies on sight, since any other attempts are sure to fail. But as I said this has nothing to do with if we are using a pen and paper map, a virtual 2D map, a 3D virtual map or a virtual reality simulation where I actually play my sorcerer... it all depend on the viable option the DM offers me when facing an encounter.
Buying a book on roll20 is NOTHING like buying it on dnd beyond. Dnd beyond gets the stuff from the purchase straight into its character builder. Dndbeyond works in most VTTs but roll20 has no sucg functionality at all. If you play roll20 it is STILL better to buy the book in dnd beyond. Buying it in roll20 when i started was a huge loss for me. Completely useless and i had to rebuy a couple on dnd beyond which is objectively better. Huge warning to everyone - do not pay for books to random third parties. You will need the books in dndbeyond anyway. Anyone making a dnd vtt or similar will adaot it to dndbeyond. All my investments in roll20 have simply lead to lost investments. And i use roll20 frequently. Only the membership is required.
Choosing between R20 and DNDB, or else paying double, is definitely a problem. But I do find value in Roll20 market purchases for large adventures like the Wizards campaign-sized adventure books (which is most of them). Because if I don't buy the content on R20, then I have to manually upload all the player maps, which is time-consuming and tedious. Even worse, if I want dynamic lighting (which DNDB Maps doesn't have), now I have to hand-draw walls, edges, and so forth, on every single map. This is incredibly tedious and error-prone. Another thing is that The DNDB Maps app is still very beta and fiddly to work with. For example, not having tokens snap into squares is more frustrating in practice than I anticipated. And for me, I'm not dependent on character-building software to manage characters. I've been doing it with pen-and-paper for decades, and that, just to me personally, is far less tedious than uploading maps manually and drawing their light boundaries by hand. That's just me and my preferences. Above all, it would be nice not to have to pay twice for the same content. My hope is that someday DNDB Maps matures to the point that it has the features that are important to me.

Best review on Maps! U guys could make new ones after they release a few updates
Thanks! An update has been on my mind, but I'm kind of waiting for really significant changes which I think will be coming.
The integration with discord is really nice 👍
Thank you I’m now confident in trying them out
It's crazy that you can more easily get the models on other vtts
Great review. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!

you can visualy resize a map on roll20 as well.
Does anyone know if they have already implemented what is indicated in the video?
