    Just a small criticism to an otherwise quality video. I think it would've been better to show the product in action in the beginning of the video. I only knew what you were talking about by putting together your description and the image of the rail. But I think "show, don't tell". Also the clip you showed from Dawn of Justice lead me to believe the rail system was meant to slide underneath and away from the front rather than from side to side. Regardless another good video. Keep them coming.

      Same and I got quite excited seeing that. Is there a similar solution on the market? Being able to slide under and to the back of a desk while working would be ideal, and look less cluttered most the time imo

    Now they just need to modify the mounts so they can be unlocked and fold down, so you can attach the rail at a 90 degree angle and just slide the stick and throttle underneath the desk when not in use.
    The side to side rail is neat, but it's going to be useful in far fewer scenarios. My L shaped desk for example doesn't really have any extra side space to slide them out farther. And there's a round metal beam under it where the rail would go anyway.

    Just what I needed to be introduced to get my brain going. I appreciate how you made this so stable on the install and limited space. I have a larger bamboo, composite frame uplift standing desk but I have a desk mount mic,and the up down controls for the desk, and the desk has large horizontal frame/supports in the deep middle of the desk. In this video I wanted to see more moving of the control different types with panels and throttle but I really appreciate this is your actual setup not a full dem rig. Great work as always. I’m intimidated by doing sup a big mounting install as I’m very new full desk hardware to modifying; However, I work and play at same place so it is perfect.

      @ernestwinslow7316 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it would be great as the foldable option does fit my setup right now. I am into DCS flight sim. I came across this video while searching for ideas on how to mount my HOTAS to my desk with the option to move it out of the way when I am not gaming. At the moment, I have ordered some Guide Rail slides with locks that I want to attach to the side of the legs of the desk. The concept is to find a platform to attach the hotas to the rail and be able to slide the Hotas in and lock it in place when working and in reverse when I want to play, slide it out and lock it. All this is just still in my head. The plan is to get to work once I get the guide rail system.

    I have been waiting to see this in action so thanks for this! I was hoping I could keep my mouse and keyboard on the desk, and slide in the joysticks when entering a ship. When I exit the ship, slide them to the side. By looking at this video, that is not intended, and I am honestly a bit disappointed. That would require sliding the joysticks in and out would take a second max (or the time it takes to enter the seat in SC).

    Great to see a review of this piece. It would have been nice to give some extra attention to the main use case this piece has compared to the other desk mounts: moving sticks to one side so the desk can be used for office work or gaming quite seamlessly.
    I've ordered the rail about 3-4 months ago and while it is quite good, the design of the sliders is not ideal. They are too wide and waste space in the rail, making even two sticks too much to slide away with a 1400mm rail, while keeping comfortable space for office use.
    It is overall a good product, but I would only recommend if your desk can fit a rail that is at least 1500mm, if you plan to hotswap between office and sim pit.

    • @NOOBIFIER1337
      @NOOBIFIER1337  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s interesting because mine moves more than far enough to let me fully displace the controls to be used as a normal desk.

    • @spacexy0
      @spacexy0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NOOBIFIER1337 you can probably access your desk from the back. In my office the desk is accessed through the side, since the other side is flush against the wall. Because of that, I need to push both mounts to the same side, which doubles the wasted space by the mount sliders. With a design that used both rails in a square design, instead of a single long line, it would make possible to flush both joysticks against each other with no waste.
      I sent pictures and explanation to Monstertech a few months ago, so hopefully they can make a different slider in the future.

      @NOOBIFIER1337  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spacexy0 they could also just machine a gap in the rail so the item could drop off.

    • @spacexy0
      @spacexy0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NOOBIFIER1337 agreed. My desk doesn't block the rails side entrance because I kind of deliberately built it like that, but most desks would have issues with the legs, like you mentioned in the video.
      Overall, the rail is a great addition to the product line and it just needs a few improvements to be phenomenal.

  • @SeraphX2
    @SeraphX2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    while im already setup for chair, i might actually do this for my keyboard. i bought something detachable to move my keyboard closer, but this new system is way more convenient, and i could also put my mouse next to my keyboard instead of off to the right side of my right flightstick on my chair. this would mean the chair setup would be lighter and more compact when i rotate them out of the way since the right one sticks out more because of the giant mousepad.

      The desk mounts are made from standard 80x40mm aluminium profiles, you can order them cut to size and pre-drilled, same goes for the clamp. Search for 'DIY joystick mount' on YT to see how easy (and cost-effective compared to Monstertech's products, which are great) it is, if you are inclined to try.

    I am consistently impressed with both Monstertechs products but also your reviews.
    I actually learned a bit about woodworking on a sim put video lol.
    One note,
    whilst screws and inserts still hold find in wood, because of the flexibility and lower compressive strength at surface levels prone to loosening over a (very long) period of time.
    It may not fall out but personally I'd be worried about wobble because of the weight and lever arm of sim gear hanging off it.
    I don't know that epoxy is really necessary but I'm not 100% sure what is a good alternative .

      @@limitedrespawns If you plan to build a sim rig, then IMO you basically need to start first with choosing what it will look like. Join the discord if you would like to talk a bit i detail.

    I have a question about the strength of the keyboard tray. You mentioned an MFD extender, would that be strong enough to mount a pair of Virpil button boxes to? At first glance it would seem that it wouldn't be.
    It's great to see them make this, I always wondered if they would after Lord Skippy's video outlining his own home made rail system: th-cam.com/video/VWXf6EsfZ4c/w-d-xo.html

      As it is close to the rail, I would say, Yes I believe they would be supported no issue. Consider angling them rearward a bit to offset the weight torque. Another idea would be to mount them on their own slider, bit the MFD mount is strong.

      The only consideration will be if the rail holds to the desk… you can always use some sort of Epoxy. The rail itself can likely hold 100kg.

    Holy crap the slide rail is such a rip off. It is a simple 80x16 extruded aluminum profile. You can buy a 2 meter one for less then 30€ in silver (including 20%VAT) +shipping....

      I guess, but some people couldn't be bothered and just want to have it shipped 100% ready to mount.

      You can also buy it in black. In fact, you can buy the same exact slider assembly for 30€ (per mount). The only custom part seems to be the bar to which those sliders and the joystick mounts are connected / screwed in to, which is just a 5mm+ piece of metal (presumably aluminium, maybe Noob can confirm) with 8 holes in it. You can see all the components in the rail system manual pdf on Monstertech's website, if you feel like copying it for a fraction of the cost.

      where you buy your 80x20 80x16 at?

    • @mixedd69
      @mixedd69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on where you are located I guess! If you live in Germany then of course, just can buy from Motedis. Here in Baltic states, that same rail is just a 15Eur difference than in Monstertech, because of Motedis high shipping.

    Instead of “The Americans” watching the video. You could say that’s converted to Freedom Fractions. If it’s good enough to get a man on the moon it should work for the rail system.

    Monstertech is soo overpriced, i laugh everytime. Dudes, just buy regular ITEM-Profiles. with those i built my own system within 25 work hrs and 1/5 of the price.
    Great Video, esp missing IFCS from Pritchett
