HugelyRound It's called "common grace" - the reality that God causes the sun to shine on all. We don't deserve it. And, sadly, we often don't even recognize where it comes from.
Dude, you are a rock star. You have provided missing elements in my skills that I am now aware of. When you are aware, you can learn and change. I am excited of what lies ahead in my life when I use influence from all six sources. Thank you.
Jesus said: "Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ." (Matt. 23:10 - NAS and Greek) The NKJV uses the word "teachers"; however, teachers is used in 23:8 so they repeated this previous warning. The KJV uses the word "masters". I went to Willow Creek Community Church for over a decade, as well as my wife did, and gave our time, and our tithes and offerings. Our Lord Jesus Christ removed us from churches altogether and sat us down, like Job, giving us the time to hear HIS words in its fullness. We were shocked to know that we were being so misled. We FEARED the Lord. (Which means both "live in terror of" and "a healthy respect for") The first thing Jesus says in Matthew 24 (regarding the end times) is "See to it that no one misleads you." This requires us to take an active role in making sure that what we are being taught is TRUTH. We were busy in those days, DOING. Busy busy busy. John Ortberg said one thing right. We seem to believe that "busyness denotes importance." But, John the Baptizer, had to take his time to prepare for his ministry WITH GOD, not by going to worldly minded classes of "How to..." Why don't people go to heaven? John 3:19-21; Hosea 4:6; Matthew 6:24; Hebrews 2:2,3; Romans 10:17; John 8:31,32; John 14:6; John 6:63; John 8:43,44; John 8:45-47; John 10:26; John 11:25; Matthew 10:38; Matthew 11:6; 2 Corinthians 4:3,4; Matthew 12:30; Matthew 12:31,32; John 3:18; John 5:39, 40; John 6:45 (Psalm 119:102); Matthew 24:9; Matthew 10:40; John 10:2-5: Psalm 119:155; 2 Thess. 2:8-12. If you have a really difficult time understanding the scriptures? John 8:43, 44. These summits are taught by businessmen. They are mixing the ways of this world with Christianity. A church building is to be "sanctified" unto Jesus Christ. He overcame the world, He did not join it. He said: "The wisdom of this world, is FOOLISHNESS to God. For it is written, 'He catches the wise in their own craftiness.'" (1 Cor. 3:19) Because Willow Creek is located in such a rich area, you should pull out every verse regarding "wealth," "money," AND "poor," because most of you do not have "the mind of Christ" regarding wealth. These "wealthy leaders" are not helping you either. Did you ever wonder why Jesus chose to come into the world poor instead of wealthy? Do you know what God's Word teaches us about the poor? What about the letters to the churches in Revelation, no criticism was given to the financial poor; however, to the wealthy ...? Here are some verses about "wealth" often not even spoken about. My guess would be your "leaders" would hear these verses and be convicted of their own sin. Do you want the truth? Do you want your ears tickled? You decide. Greed is "a thirst for more than you need" and "taking more than your share in the land of the living" Colossians 3:5 tells us that greed is idolatry. This sin Israel was severely punished for. (Couple this with Romans 11:19-22). Psalm 10:3; Psalm 72:4; Psalm 72:13, 14; Psalm 73:3-9; Psalm 73:12, 13, 16-18; Psalm 140:12; Psalm 3:27; Proverbs 10:16; Proverbs 11:16; Proverbs 11:18; Proverbs 22:16; Proverbs 22:22,23; Proverbs 23:4; Proverbs 29:7; Proverbs 30:8,9; Isaiah 33:15; Isaiah 55:1,2; Jeremiah 5:27; Jeremiah 6:13; Jeremiah 8:10; Ezekiel 16:49,50 (coupled with Genesis 19:4,5, Lev. 18:22; Lev. 20:13; Romans 1:21,22); Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate God and love wealth; or he will be devoted to God and despise wealth. You cannot serve God and wealth." - Our Lord is only speaking about two things in this verse: God and Wealth. Matthew 23:25 (speaks of "self-indulgence"; Mark 8:34; Luke 1:53; Luke 6:24-26; Luke 12:15; Luke 16:19-25; Acts 20:35; Romans 2:8; 2 Corinthians 8:7-15; (coupled with Exodus 16:18); Ephesians 5:3; James 2:5,6; James 5:1-5; 2 Peter 2:3; 1 John 3:17; Revelation 2:9; Revelation 3: 17, 18. Jesus said that His house is not to become a marketplace. The marketplace He destroyed was OUTSIDE the building, but on the grounds of His Holy Temple. We all know how ANGRY He was. But these people are operating INSIDE a consecrated building unto the Lord, to their shame. Just because someone is worldly successful does not mean that God is pleased with them, nor that they can "teach" you anything. REMEMBER: You have One Teacher, who is Christ the Lord. True Christians defer to HIS judgment, HIS words, HIS ways, HIS teaching. May our Lord Jesus Christ give you LOVE FOR HIS TRUTH, that you are not pulled into THE APOSTASY.
What a powerful keynote! I have to watch it at least 10xs to digest this. I would love to interview you for my blog I host on Instagram (The first one of its kind). Just a 2-3 answer to the question, "The most important lesson you've learned that helped you 'WiN' at what you do?" It would be an honor. - Shon
I can try. Look at the diagram at 25:12. Whenever we make a decision, we look at 6 boxes. 3 boxes have to do with motivation/desire. 3 boxes have to do with our ability: So, do we WANT to do it, and CAN we do it. Each one of those have 3 levels: personal, community, and structure. So, our selves, the people around us, and the structure/environment. Box1 is personal motivation. We can increase our motivation by setting a meaningful goal, not just 'save money' or 'lose weight' but WHY we want to save money or lose weight. Box 2 is our ability. If we can't do something we need to start with small steps. Don't run 10 kilometers. Run for 30 seconds. Then one minute. . . . the more success we have, the more we will want success. Boxes 3 and 4 are the people around us. If they are saving money, it will make us save money. If they are running, we will want to run. AND if they have ability, they can show us how to do it well and successfully. If all of our friends smoke and play video games, we will probably do that too. Boxes 5 and 6 have to do with the environment. It's easier to choose things that are easy. If we make good choices easy, we will choose them. If it's easy for me to find a recycling bin, it's easier for me to recycle, so I will probably do it more. I hope this helps a bit. It's challenging to summarize completely and briefly!
How does this only have 100k views in almost 8 years?! This is precious information.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is amazing, but hard to digest. Can anyone explain it in an simpler way?
