    I never knew David Rennie played for Leeds. As we all know he went on to play for the Sky Blues in the mid 90s and was often praised by Big Ron when he first arrived along with Borrows for their consistency at the back. By that point Borrows was the only surviving outfield player left from this F.A cup winning year and Big Ron was way off point as our defence was a laughing stock under his management. Thanks for the upload and I feel these days are just round the corner. Jordan & Robins Glory Days coming soon 🙌

    I was there - what a year, so close yet so far. Play-off final defeat to Charlton to follow - Bremner was sacked the year after, went to Doncaster, sacked from there, then died… in a parallel universe there was no Bennet and Shirtliffe and Bremner went on to win the world cup with Scotland…

    Houchen was a real talisman in Coventry's cup run that season. Things just seem to fall for him and scored a great goal in the final. Coventry's name was on the cup that season.

      Easy to look back & say that. But it's true, there was a feeling in the city and the team. My mob found out, 9 months before, we had a family gathering in Scotland on the FA Cup final day. We (mostly) did the right thing by the family. I have no regrets, I'd rather I missed the game and we won. And we did !

    Can't believe how many opportunities Cyrille Regis squandered. Thank God we had Dave Bennett.

    • @jcoker423
      @jcoker423 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bennett was a wizard, but Regis was a defensive wrecking ball. It was an amazing year, the team and city seemed to think 'this was our year'. My family had a big gathering on FA Cup day. As soon as we saw the dates it was 'I bet we get to the Finals'. We (mostly) did right by the family, no regrets, I'd rather not be there and the Sky Blues to win..... superstition !
      The Final wasn't on TV in Scotland, but we got a radio and listened in.

      +bigby1976 I was in the Leppings Lane end for this game it was packed solid but we were evenly spread along the whole terrace. When you look at the footage I can honestly say I think there were more Leeds fans in that end in 1987 than there were Liverpool fans two years later. • @mrkipling2201
      @mrkipling2201 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah packing 10000 millwall fans in an end with a capacity of i think about 8000 was a complete joke. Then they wondered why they were frustrated. I don't condone a lot of the violence but some of that was a backlash about being put in a dangerous situation. Lucky there wasn't a fence up at leppings lane when we played derby in '76.

    • @mrkipling2201
      @mrkipling2201 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've read a lot of the independent report various witness statements and letters from fans and the like and it all points to one thing: That a disaster was waiting to happen there it just needed the wrong set of circumstances. I stood there myself before that watching United and it was uncomfortable. At least before penning was introduced you could move the width of the terrace.

    • @scherben8870
      @scherben8870 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That penning was introduced because it was supposedly making the ground safer. I'm unsure about the logic behind that.
      That Hillsborough archive that I've linked up is very interesting. There's even some correspondence from United regarding a crush at OT when we played Villa in 1988: hillsborough.independent.gov.uk/repository/docs/FFA000003370001.pdf
