Correction: Game #58 "New Ghostbusters II" was in fact released in Europe in 1992. Thanks @Irfan Afendi for pointing this out!
Also, Game #57 - "Nangoku Shirei! Spy vs. Spy" was also released in the US as "Spy Vs Spy". Thanks @carrete 75 for pointing that out!
Getsu Fuuma Den is missing just in case you overlooked it. Really great game for that time.
The video is 1 year old and i dont know if somebody said this in the comments Game #57 " Nangoku Shirei!!: Spy vs. Spy released in Usa olso as Spy vs Spy . Great vidio anyway. Good job. Thanks
@@carrete7581 Ooo, thanks for letting me know. I've updated the correction above!
13:38 Thank you for including this gem, I was trying so hard to remember the name of it! You're the only person I've seen (so far) on TH-cam to include this game.
As cool as new games are I always tend to go back to classic NES just something magical about those 8-bit graphics and the gameplay and music still holds up after all these years! Thanks for making a compilation of Japanese Exclusive games for the NES always wondered about the cool games we never got over here in the U.S.
I make new 8-bit games. I made a real Gameboy game! Worth a cartridge and everything
So many rare gems, thanks so much for this video, dude!
Glad I found this video, lots of games here to explore! Thank you!
Well you earned a sub from me Gary! Thanks for putting the games in the description. You have no idea how much I appreciate that.
13:46 robocco wars, i didnt remember the name, what a blast of nostalgia, thank you so much :D
You are doing great work, Gary) Thank you so much:) Hopefully...oneday...I can at least play some of these NES gems:D
My very first console ever was the japanese nes. We had the system with alot of games. It was a new era of fun!
0:38 it never made it out of Japan but says hello when answering the phone lol
Good stuff. I heard of aroun 14 of these games and have holy driver and fantasy zone 2 on multicarts. Never heard of most of these but some look good. Nice work
Thank you so much, i finally found that game that i played as a kid and can never remember the name. Now i can die in peace, thank you!
i've played almost all games on a bootleg in my childhood xd what a memories! im so stoned rn btw
This Steamkey is a great game, thanks Gary! It's THE WAY, from developer Puzzling Dream. Reminds me a lot of Heart of Darkness and Another World. Bit of a time machine, this one!
Really enjoying this JP-only Famicom/NES video, and looking forward to future installments. I bet this one was fun to research and produce! The Famicom had so many great action games, universally-playable ... one wonders why so few of them came west? Nintendo of America must have had some hesitation about "flooding the market" with games (which was a problem Atari had a few years earlier). But many of these games look a fine sight better than some of the low-tier NES games we had in the west.
Indeed, some genuinely fabulous games that western audiences missed out on! (Also some lower quality ones that were probably better off staying unlocalized). I am a bit particularly salty about the fact that the sequel to Kung Fu Master (Spartan X-2) was never exported...
I hope you enjoy The Way!
I love that mappy remix in the intro. I have that CD somewhere, very underrated.
We need a 100 Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo games that never left Japan lists.

Thank you for the Vid! I finally found number 92. I have this game before and I really dont have any idea what the name of this game. Again thank you!
9:05 By far, and I really mean that, the most underrated NES game of all times. Remember playing it on pirate "Terminator 2" console in Eastern Europe under the name "Ninja Cats. In my view definetly one of the NES classics!
Awesome games. Love Nes games.❤
My favorite adventure island 4 at 16:24
Best adventure Island game ever made .. I completed this game 2-3 time..nostalgia.
17:49 Finally I know the name of this game
oh man shufflepuck cafe, i remember that from a 500-in-1 CD that came with a DVD Lexing package
What a fantastic video
I had almost all that japanese games.the pinguin karateka, was the games i repeat play all time
So many great memories from these games. Was 'Wagyan land' listed here? Before moving back to London i was living in Japan from age 2-6, my parents used to play these games and brought them back to the U.K. I remember i had a special adapter to play japanese famicon games on my british nes.
8:48 The same melody can be heard in Ghoul School Chemistry Lab Room...
Splatter house looks like the game of my dreams
Habían varios que conocí de los cartuchos de polystation y habían otros que no había visto y se ven bastante buenos 👍
At 4:50, I thought to myself "Devo had their own videogame!??". I mean, FRONT LINE's protagonist does look like he'd be in DEVO, huh.🤭
16:15 that's islander 4 and i had it in Latvia
That Dandy game with those blue slimes....they must of been popular than just in Dragon Warrior games in Japan
The middle Eastern version of NES was called Famicom "Family Computer". We have played some of these games and yes they were in Japanese.
Do you (or does anyone else) know how many exclusive Famicom games there were in total? I did a little bit of research and think the number is probably between 500 and 600, but that's only a very rough estimate and I would love to have a more accurate one.
I am from India, some of game Japan exclusive was available in india in 1996
I used to play them. I had third party console which supported all regions game.
Big Challenge! Dogfight Spirit has the same tune as EDF (also by Jaleco)
Finally I'm find the Robocco wars game here's 😚😚😚👏👏👏👏
so so much i miss at least don doko don is etched on my soul as a fulfilling chilhood game
Ikki and the enemy lines were copies in south america, when I lived in Chile , taht hecks or bootlegs were able there.
I noticed a few games that were reviewed in magazines, but never released in the US like Kung Fu 2 (Spartan X2) and Mini Putt. Strangest case was Goonies where the cart never left Japan, but the game did appear in the US on PC-10 and Vs. System, as well as sequel actually being released on cart in the US.
Magical Taruruuuto-kun looked like it would've been a hit in the west. I wonder why it didn't crossover here??
Checkout the MegaDrive version of the game! It's absolutely beautiful - and it's developed by little company known as Game Freak...
Strange. I played some of this games when I was a kid.
I grew up with many of these games because in south africa we had the famicom instead of the nes. Im grateful for that, because famicom had the better games
I don't live in Japan but we had Don Doko Don back then (2:12).
i was hoping i could find here the rpg horror nes game i rented as a kid..i was so hooked that ive finished it even though its completely japanese. the game switches from first person roaming to 3rd person 2d platform in boss battles. didnt know the title. looking for it for years.
@@paxhumana2015 Sadly it isnt. i remember the final boss battle switched to side scrolling battle. and the plot was rescuing someone.. i think his girlfriend or daughter.. too young too remember.
I can’t seem to find one particular 8bit game which Im pretty sure it was from Japan. Bits and pieces of memory of the game was a boy who looked like Nobita in Doreamon but not doreamon game which you can find for the nes btw. There were stages where doors were upside down and you have to maneuver between these puzzle doors to reach your exit. You would be hanging upside down sometimes when you entered one of the doors. Don’t know the name and don’t know if anyone has played such before
f1 circus, armana no kiseki, sakigake, and taito chaise are best games in this video
Geimos looks rad 🤙
1:13 Baby Gangsta Nes.
Ah the NES, where it all began.
# 11 is definitely a dragon quest game.
OOH MY FUCKING GOD, I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR 17:50 FOREVER
All I knew about it was that it was a girl in a "mall" where the lava is supposedly rising.
Konami:
Senshi nicol
Kid Dracula
Armana no kiseki
Bio miracle
Falsion
Ganbare goemon 1+2
Hinotori
Kekkyoku nankyoku daibouken
King Kong 2
Quarth
Twinbee 3
Wai wai world 1+2
Those games are so underrated/hidden gems
I LIKE THEM, AND I WILL PLAY THEM, AND I WILL BEAT THEM
Part two of this video coming this weekend. More to like, play and beat!
@@GaryRetroGamer oh yeah, keep it up, I want more cool retro games to play
I think i have played dozen of these game back when i was a kid due to piracy, though the cassette cover was misleading
I'm looking for a japanese shooter games. That shooter have a light bulb as the default weapon type. I love the BGM and until now can't find it. Hoping somebody could point out the name of that game
ok, wish they had introduced multiplayer with NES
Holy Diver...
You should include Battle City (1985) in second part. This game was incredibly popular hit in Russia like Zelda in the USA.
Game never officially left Japan but russians played chinese bootlegs.
Thanks for the info! I'll definitely include in Part 2. I've been meaning to do a video on Russian/East European gaming - so this is good info!
@@GaryRetroGamer It is great! Have you ever heard about Kinaman? He made many videos about russian gaming market of 1990s. I think it could be useful for you.

I will check it out. Thank you!
it was the case in the Philippines, almost everyone knows Battle City it's as popular as Contra but no one that I know of played Legend of Zelda on NES
100 Famicom Games*
The games konami didn't bring to the u.s. are awesome games.
Wow!
Oh boiii its 00:19 here and i am gonna have good night sleep after watching this classic
12:55
Alot of good games we didn't get in the US.
Correction: New Ghostbusters II isn't a Japanese exclusive. Even though it wasn't released in North America, it was released in Europe as well.
Ah, thank you for the correction. I'll post an errata.
@@GaryRetroGamer You're welcome. I'm pleased to see a TH-camr replied to my comment. 😄👍
Jetman no 1
Did I miss Crisis Force?
0:18
Guys can you help me identify this game that i lose the name of it? It is platformer and the stage 1 comes with white dominant background and your character has grey sprite (it looks like tiny toon character / earthworm jim it is cartoony ish character), i know it is kinda vague but any help would be appreciated (yeah i watch the video above and it is not there and i do believe it is nes game back when i was a kid)
I'm searching for a game I used to play, its a 2d platformer the first mission you play as a man wearing a suit and a hat and you have a gun, and the second mission you play as a samurai with a sword, if any one knows its name please tell me
that ghostbusters game would have been an instant classic for a few million american kids
I have a question ? Does anybody known the name of Japanese RPG game (NES) it's about the protagonist who can transform himself into red robot like Iron Man. I played it as a child (it was long gone) and still tried to find the name for 20+ years.
Was it called Ultraman Club by any chance? Haven't played it, but it seems like on what you are describing.
@@MarioStrikers It wasn't. But thank you for mentioned this one. Never heard this game before too 🙂
There is only ONE Dio...
Issnt karateka released in west?
Not for the Nintendo NES system. On console, it was only released for the Japanese Famicom.
Karateka was created in usa and was published by Broderbund
As the video states, the 8-Bit nintendo version was developed by Soft Pro and released *only* in Japan.
Okey, fair enought
А вот в России игры про никкетсу были, но на японском разумеется
Fire Emblem?!?
matur suksma
Did you leave of Mother and Sweet Home because they were just too obvious?
Anyone who knows an adventure nes game where a boy uses a bird as a weapon?
Are you thinking of Kamen no Ninja Hanamaru? It was converted into Yo! Noid for the North American market.
NUTS & MILK?
Isn't Druid based on a ZX Spectrum game? The NES version wasn't released elsewhere, but still...
Ah, excellent eye! Technically, it's a port of Druid 2: Enlightenment - but yeah, it's the old C64/Speccy game. Also note: #45 Knightlore and #56 - Monty on the Run!
@@GaryRetroGamer Yeah, I did notice Knightlore! I must have overlooked Monty on the Run, though...
At least with the NES they were forced to actually port the games, you wouldn't believe how many lazy conversions from ZX Spectrum to MSX are out there!
I'm told there are almost as many lazy Speccy -> MSX ports as there are Speccy -> Amstrad ports!
Vive emulateur
This video always seemed wrong. I mean the end the cop had lights and sirens on and someone still hits the car.
I played at least half of them and I am not for Japan.
is famicom no nes
I see why
