One of the best things about BG3's success is that it really celebrates some of the lesser known people and roles when it comes to making games, something that seems really rare in game development. So happy to see often overlooked but incredibly important roles get their flowers with videos like this!
Completely agree - I think this is what I respect about Larian the most. It benefits them to put out content for engagement, of course, but this kind of content puts the spotlight on the people who have benefitted them, too.
They do more than celebrate, they recognize and value their skills and input from the get go, and trust them with their art which promotes their creativity and motivation. And that is how you go from a product to an artistic masterpiece 🤗
The combat in BG3, even though it's turnbased, is animated so beautifully with satisfying sound and visual effects. Love to see the behind the scenes content ❤
It's definitely animated beautifully... hell the whole game is beautiful, but I hate the combat. Not that it's turn based. I absolutely love Xcom... just wow you miss so many damn times in Bg3, it's ridiculous. Like I thought you missed a lot in Xcom but it pales in comparison to the misses in Bg3. And yes I know about light and distance and everything to try and combat your characters short sightedness but it's still horrible.
Yeah, Larian was stuck with 5e ruleset@@clockworkNate, I hope they go a different route for the next games they make and still include all the amazing story elements they had for dos2 and BG3!
Moccapping is without a doubt my favourite process to watch in game development, especially action heavy games. Thank you Mustapha, for being a integral part in giving life to these characters! 🙏🏻❤️
Combat animations don't have to be real time combat based to be beautifully made. The turn based style allowed for each animation to be felt and heard so perfectly, it's amazing.
I absolutely love this stuff, I really wanted to go to school for 3d animation, but in my country at the time, it wasn't even an option. Seeing motion capture tech always amazes me, I even looked into getting a suit, but that stuff was way above my budget 😂
Really cool how Mustapha put in so much effort into bringing the animations to life, and using real world martial arts as basis for the different Faerun races. Really adds life into the characters. Thank you, Mustapha, for all of your hard work!
Thank you Mr. Mustapha! Your beautiful work was part of what caused me to go buy a bigger and better monitor so I didn’t miss ANY little detail! Lol! ♥️
These are the details that made this game the best RPG in the last decade. All of you should be proud of your hard work. It's studios like yours that give us hope that this industry isn't dead.
Stoked for this content! Showcases part of why BG3 is so special - attention to detail. Unique moves, the work done for all the decisions a player might make. I have never given Lae'zel anything but a greatsword, but it thrills me to know all the potential within game code to have her move in unique ways that I may never see. If you are making a product for profit, you might tend to doing the least possible to minimise cost. If you are doing it for the sake of art, for the love and commitment to creativity you do what Mustapha just demonstrated for us. And the combat is so meaty - a good hit feels good
It should be commended that BG3's turn-based combat is so addictive without needing to be so over-the-top like in the pre-hack-and-slash era of Final Fantasy
Absolutely amazing larian studios hired this guy to do their animations …so nice to see a studio cover ever detail to make the game the best they can make it
Very interesting to see the explanation behind Lae'zel's grip and stance. I found it very strange in the game and couldn't for the life of me figure out why she held the sword that way. Turns out, it's all about perspective. You can't really tell from the top-down perspective that she's trying to disguise her weapon, but when you show the motion-capture work from the front, like this, it suddenly becomes clear.
I love to watch behind the scenes stuff, they could post the whole production process and I wouldn't get tired of watching. So much thought went into all those fight moves! I will look at them differently from now on. Great work!

Finally, my lifelong ability to pick up any stick during a walk and instantly become a lethal warrior is useful!
😮 What an impressive work ! It's fascinating to see this kind of detail regarding the moccap. I always loved watching the way each character moves because each one has its own style. Thank you Mr. Mustapha for taking the time to show us this part of your remarkable work ! 🤩
The combat animations in this game are so visceral and exciting. It's one of the things that really sticks in my mind when I look back on my experience with the game.
Seeing Mustapha's process is so cool somehow the game is even more intuitive than it absolutely already is it's incredible to see I'm so excited for more content
What’s really impressive about this is how aware the guy clearly is of his body and movements at any given moment. You can tell when he’s performing those attacks and stances he’s able to envision exactly what it looks like to an observer, so he can make sure the animations not only look good and communicate the character’s personality but are also extremely clear and readable from any angle. There’s so much skill and expertise on display at every level of this game, it’s incredible.
Gotta love the difference between Lae'zel polearm move, which is a lot of more technical and precise, and then Karlach being just upfront full body move enraged swing
Some of the most under appreciated and unsung heroes of this game. Whenever I can remember, I always zoom in to see combat moves. Grabbing a goblin and tossing it into another goblin will always be my favorite though.
The movements and attacks are so versatile and have so much character, it is truly amazing how a single human can embody so much different characters! Thank you for making BG3 even more diverse, immersive and wonderful to look at, sir!
All the movements in the game are amazing... Except for the dwarves/gnomes/halflings swinging two handed swords... but it's more a problem of weapons not scaling on the character's size than a choregraphy reason. Congratulations to Mustapha and the animators. They made combat so fun to watch !
These combat details really helped with immersing us into combat. I can't wait to see what you all do for your next game installment. I'm sure it'll be even greater than we experienced in BG3!
I was wondering why the attack and animations are so good. Thanks for bringing life to each character and class. Githyanki's fluid and precise, Orcs powerful and meaty chops are just phenomenal.
It's so cool to see this! I think we often forget about the "small" parts when presented with as big of a picture as BG3 is. Thank you for sharing this, I love seeing these processes and behind the scenes. ♥
I have to admit, I usually don't look that closely at fighting animations because I'm focused on keeping my characters alive, so I had no idea that there a specialized combat motions for many of them! This is so cool to see and I will definitely pay more attention to those details in my next playthrough
Thank you Mustapha and Larian. I liked animations of combat in BG3 so much, that it inspired me to starting HEMA - historical European martial arts. And now it's almost 6 month as i am hitting real people with real sword. It's one of the most fun things ive evere done. Hoghly recommend 😊
Omg this is so cool. Lae’zel is my favorite character and the animations are part of the reason why. They made me wish I could just play a stand alone hack and slash game with her as the main character. Amazing work.
The animations were so well done - the only addition I had hoped for were attack combos for Extra attack, so you can select targets like with magic missile or eldritch blast and then watch an awesome combo move chaining those attacks together.
So excited to continue getting this content through this channel. It's awesome to see the care and effort put into so many aspects of this game and world. Really appreciative to get to see more into the processes and behind the scenes.
I was stunned when I first saw the “very heavy great axe” has totally different animations than other great axes. Such attention to detail. Even after a year and over 1,000 hours I’m still blown away by this masterpiece of a game.
All of this is so fascinating and interesting! Especially to know about the processes behind, and inspiration, and performers! 👏👏 That all of the characters have their own style is incredible, I will definitely pay even more attention now :D
Motion capture has really advanced the combat animations. I still remember the early days when games were all hand-animated. Sometimes surprisingly good, but often ridiculous and over the top. Motion capture makes things much more believable.
This kind of content is super interesting, I’d love to see a film/series with developer diaries and stuff like that. This is a masterpiece and we who love it want to dig into the creation process as much as we can 😊
I never forget how cool Dwarf two-handed sword animations were in Divinity 2, like the fact that my race isn't just a height slider like every other dev would do and Larian is actually taking nto account SELLING the fantasy of being that race. That someone is think about how a smaller race would handle a weapon three times their size is a testament to why Larian is top 3.
If I tried to do that Lae'zel move, I'd cut my own arm off! 😅 The melee moves are all so cool looking, I love seeing the fine-tuning and inspirations that went into them.
One of the best things about BG3's success is that it really celebrates some of the lesser known people and roles when it comes to making games, something that seems really rare in game development. Remember 00' movies had specials for the behind the scenes? . Showcasing the lesser known people who made the wheel spin.
Hear, hear!👏
The Game Awards used to do this more often, but we all know what happened to that miserly event.
At least BG3 still got the recognition it deserved.
The combat in BG3, even though it's turnbased, is animated so beautifully with satisfying sound and visual effects. Love to see the behind the scenes content ❤
Idk, I find it very basic
@@mikopo88 good for you :)

@clockworkNate that's cause of random dice rolls not because of anything else
This channel rocks my socks off
Moccapping is without a doubt my favourite process to watch in game development, especially action heavy games.

@@GingaGingaGingaGinga adult movies for sure

1:44 so the source for that move is literally "it was revealed to me in a dream"

As a martial arts nerd ...the authenticity of BG3 combat really shows for me. We respect the knowledge and lore of Combat! Ma Salama Mustapha!
Thank you, Mustapha, for all of your hard work!
Always love to see when the stunt performers and choreographers get their due. Thanks Mustapha!

Combat styles in BG3 are amazing! Turn based fights help to really see and enjoy them. Thank you! ❤
Your work will live on in my head for the rest of my life
Keep that beautiful content rolling.
The choreography turned out amazing, and it's great to know that they were very careful about that as well, especially with those details.
The combat animations in this game are so visceral and exciting. It's one of the things that really sticks in my mind when I look back on my experience with the game.

mustapha is a badass and larian did not need to go this hard into combat animations but they did and thats why we love them
In-depth-content. I love to see this stuff!
this content is great , love the behind the scene stuff and the people who are so good in their fields !
Thank you Mustapha for your amazing hard work!

Your work was fantastic. thank you so much for the many unforgettable animations during fights.
Just insanely good work. I was always blown away by the outrageous amount of animations for combat.
Outstanding attention to detail. Such a wonderful game in everything goddamn!
Can't wait for more of these little spotlights. Love to learn about lesser known aspects of the game. And great to see new people in the spotlight!
Very cool insight into the Mocapping techniques used for the game!
So you're the responsable for the beautiful idle battle animation on my F Drow with two swords. Everytime I see I'm just in love.
Stellar work from the motioncapturing.
I could watch 1 hour of this, just explaining every race's/character's animations
I love seeing the passion, true PASSION people brought to this project. This game...
This is a great way to pass the time waiting for Larian's next game :)
Now I'm ready for another fight!! "Twisted Force song begins"
Oh yeah i love mocaps when they are mocaping 👍
Gotta love the difference between Lae'zel polearm move, which is a lot of more technical and precise, and then Karlach being just upfront full body move enraged swing
Holy moly, Larian just found IRL Minsc to do their motion capture xD amazing work thank you kindly for hiring him and giving us so much joy.
Some of the most under appreciated and unsung heroes of this game. Whenever I can remember, I always zoom in to see combat moves.
Grabbing a goblin and tossing it into another goblin will always be my favorite though.
watching an expert at work is truly a joy
I love these kind of short BtS video's
This man must have an extensive knowledge of different weapons and fighting styles 😲

Great to see some of the behind the scenes.
Wow! Mustapha is really talented athlete with great experience ❤
Great job was done with the animations. Hope we get more games like BG3 in the future.

Congratulations to Mustapha and the animators. They made combat so fun to watch !
I'm here so early that this did not even appear in my notifications.
I love these little peeks behind the scenes! Keep em coming!
I'm a fan from Japan and never found BG3 includes Samurai actions. Very cool😊
I love BG3 and other Larian's games❤ Thanks for the Japanese subtitles.

Bravo, Mustapha!! Amazing work! Ossu!!!
I love these videos of the process and the people behind the development that created this masterpice
I remember someone once said all characters used default animations. This video disproves that.
Thank you so much for sharing so much that goes on "backstage"! It's genuinly fascinating to learn how it all comes together.
