We've learned more about the personal life of Painticus:
    1. He has a minimum of 2 brothers (potentially up to hundreds)
    2. He was born in the mid 90s and then reborn again every year until the early 2000s.

Really liked the video. Here is a suggestion for a 2nd part with Saw like games: Amensia Justine. Really feels like Saw, even the ending is very Saw like.

Mr. Cage is indeed a huge pervert, and I hated the times when he was still active and people for some reason believed what he said, that he was in fact a great "auteur" ..
And don't even tell me "Well he is French", because honestly, it goes beyond just that.

When you described how Saw could work as a game with a puzzle setting, my mind went to the Zero Escape games. All of them are set up to where there's a sort of "death game" being played, and many of them feature puzzle/escape the room elements that either help the players progress, or have them build their own saw traps. Especially Zero Time Dilemna (Although that's the weakest in the trilogy).

@@Painticushow the fuck does manhunt have anything to do with saw aesthetically or related to it. I've beaten manhunt multiple times and the story is completely different. It's about gore porn and snuff. With a physco killer having to do stuff to be free. Saw was about victims in traps. Please do not make a video about manhunt lmao

    • @creakydabomb

I know I'm commenting on a year old video now, but there's something really funny about Heavy Rain’s inclusion in here. When I was… 15? I played Heavy Rain for the first time, and I basically enjoyed it only for the idea of “guy doing fucked up things to save someone he loves” and didn’t really care about most of the rest. Years later, I ended up watching the Saw franchise and it made me realize that this was more in line of what I wanted from Heavy Rain.
So it was genuinely kinda surprising to see someone else also make this kind of connection, especially from the perspective of someone who has played it in and out and then ‘advanced’ to Saw.

  • @solfell_

Well this was a delightful surprise to wake up to, another excellent video Paint. I agree that the interactive narrative format would suit an official Saw game, a bit surprised that no one's done that yet. Will definitely be taking a look at Outlast Trials and I'm very intrigued by the Fallout: New Vegas DLC, wouldn't have expected a Saw style story in a game like that. I would definitely like to see a part 2 of Saw-like games and your thoughts on the official Saw games and a dedicated video on Outlast Trials (basically everything you've suggested, I want to see).

It's funny the way you spoke about the Saw movies like they were some Monolithic thing as a kid. I was 14 when they came out, and yeah, they were brutal, but MY monolith from being a 90s child was..... Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
I didn't know what it was except terrifying dude w/ Chainsaw go "vroom vroom".
And it absolutely TERRIFIED me. I mean i was beyond scared of Leatherface. For years.
I remember seeing a little action figure of him at Spencers Gifts (oh yeah, that store has been around forever.) And seeing the pictures on the back of the box and the little figure... oh my god. I was just shittin' bricks.
Funny to find out a few years later that leatherface is easily one of the goofiest and funniest characters of all the big horror villains.
But dammnit it scared me sooo bad.
Maybe that's why i love horror so much as a certified 33 year old man/child.
Anyway, i loved the episode, brother. Keep em coming.

Loved the video. Definitely think you should go ahead with the part 2 and the self described torture segment of the actual saw games. Technically there is a third officially licensed saw "game", being Dead By Daylights "Saw" chapter and its probably better than the 2 you listed but that game is still also it's own kind of death trap so idk if its worth it. Still, great video, will be subscribing, get you closer to 10K :)

I mean I can see where you're coming from, but as a compact, low-cost table saw, the Einhell is pretty much unbeatable. It’s the saw to choose for the compact workshop or the hobbyist looking to take their first steps, and offers a good degree of portability. It measures a little over 50 x 37cm, and has helpful storage for the cable and push stick.
It’s ideal for lightweight work, and is well suited to woods and fibreboard up to 45mm in thickness when cutting at 90 degrees, and up to 27mm at 45 degrees, while the 800-watt motor has overload protection should you push the saw too hard. The angle of tilt is adjusted by turning a knob on the front, and there’s a handy scale for increased accuracy, while a splitter behind the carbide cutting blade should help to prevent kickback.
An adjustable parallel stop ensures accurate cuts, while an angle stop can be moved between +/-60 degrees, and the dust extraction outlet seals the deal on an impressively priced, yet capable, table saw.
Key specs - Weight: 11kg; Power: 800W; Cutting depth: 45mm (90˚); Blade speed: 2,950rpm; Tilt angle: 45˚; Blade diameter: 20cm; Accessories included: 45-degree stop, parallel stop, carbide blade, push stick, blade changing tool

I like to think the Xbox 360’s “Condemned” fits because of the murder mystery narrative. It involves a lot of scary, abandoned, and dirty buildings that you explore. As well as the cover image just screams SAW.

Okay, look Jigsaw. I don't have anything against people who willingly choose to use paper straws. What I have something against is companies trying to shove the blame for pollution onto the consumer and getting people to think that switching to paper straws will meaningfully impact pollution and climate change when in reality it's big companies putting out tons of waste and greenhouse gasses. I consider it a form of victim blaming, and of course with some people mollified by "doing their part!" that means less pressure on these companies to actually shape up and help fix our planet. It's like telling people to put solar panels on the roofs of their houses instead of actually dismantling the fossil fuel industry and building more nuclear power plants which are very environmentally safe, no that's not fucking exhaust coming from the cooling towers it's WATER VAPOR, it's STEAM. _Fuck._

I think The Devil In Me is a lot of fun, probably the second best Dark Pictures game after House of Ashes. Supermassive's previous game Until Dawn has a little Saw influence during the first half of the game, but it completely falls away after a certain plot reveal at about the halfway point.
Another series that's worth checking out for some Saw vibes is the Zero Escape trilogy. They're a hybrid of visual novel and escape room puzzle games with plot twists that are about as bonkers as plot twists can get.

I will never understand what people enjoy so much about the devil in me
You spend most of the game walking about with all your characters either being nearly silent or running into trap rooms they should easily spot from a mile away, and there's barely any active gameplay compared to the rest of the franchise.
So much pointless misdirection and characters just not acting properly, like mark constantly forgetting he has a fear of heights, but for whatever reason it's treated like a masterpiece.

A couple more include the first act of Until Dawn, and The Devil In Me. The villains aren't exactly the same as John Kramer, given how Josh is just a crazy prankster and Du'met is a silent villain, but they both utilize very similar setups as Kramer himself.
A strange technicality is also found in One Leaves. That too has elaborate puzzles very similar to a Jigsaw setup, but it combines elements of Silent Hill in that the horror is a symbol of the characters' hubris. Rather than competing to survive, they are trying to avoid the admittedly even more frightening fate that is smoking addiction, and its destructive effects; tooth loss, lung disease, cancer, etc. Like in Saw, a voice gives hints on how to progress and become better, and the levels are repurposed public spaces, like the franchise too.
Finally, there's Psycho Fear. Unlike the previous mentions, Psycho Fear is overt about its inspiration. They admit it is their take on Saw. But also unlike the other games, it is in a really early development stage. You can't even play any early access versions of it on Steam yet. Apparently it will be ready for Spring 2024, and I hope that is the case since I think it has potential. From what I've seen of the puzzles, they look fun, you can join up with a couple friends to get through it, and you can feed a kitty! Again, it's also set in repurposed urban death traps. The inspirations are definitely there. It also touts a Karma system similar to the Oddworld games, hinting that certain things you do will determine what happens to you if you survive.
One admittedly messed up idea I have for a Saw satire is to have my Jigsaw expy present it as a sort of game show. Instead of coldly shaming his victims for being depressed at at his pettiest or killing white supremacists at his most justified, he could have more fun with it, making some quips about their hubris instead. And maybe they could be shamed for even pettier reasons than Kramer came up with. Basically, it'd be a ruthless version of Ninja Warrior... as in even more ruthless.
