My late Dad had an 1949 low light LHD convertible with the Alta engine and a spare Alta engine. Still in the garage at my Mom’s here in the Netherlands. Drives superbe!

We have several ALTA engines here. We also make new components, along with another owner. Valves, rockers, pushrods, valve guides, rocker covers, Grille badges and manifolds for the ALTA conversion, so they can be fixed up if necessary.

AJK973C's MoT expired on 4th July 2015, so last inspected in 2014 and passed without any problems, had been doing about 600 miles a year for the last couple of years use, a V5C was issued in February 2015 and the last tax ran out in 2016, wonder what is story was? Seems a shame that it is now abandoned.
The original "low light" Minor are the best looking cars, it was a shame that they had to elevate the headlights to suit the US market, an interesting conversion on the later MM car, thanks for sharing!

I believe the main dealer selling the alta conversion was Vic Derrington of Kingston. They converted my Riley 1.5, and I learnt the alta minor was good for 85 or so which was very good for its time. Hot minors were great fun, mine would do well over 90, but the brakes would be considered not great now!

I wonder if they upped the rear axle ratio? I remember my '52 highlight MM (it had a 1098cc conversion) was very undergeared, so to get to 85 would have been pulling some serious revs

Is it known how much of the Alta OHV conversion could also potentially be carried over to the Wolseley Eight (in spite of its 918cc engine already being OHV) and has anyone over the years actually been able to perform such an upgrade?

That was interesting - never heard of such a conversion. I wonder how the twin carbs affected performance ???? Thanks for sharing :-)

It would be interesting to see more details of the conversion. I'll try Google.

Not on the Series MM cars. Strap clamps it round the middle and holds it back against the bulkhead. Later cars used the top edge.

Yes although the rest of the car was almost as ex-factory…
