It sure would be embarrassing if league already had a champion that was a herald of a cosmic power beyond his understanding that warped his appearance, that could summon minions to do his dirty work, had such a mastery of magic that they could impart silence and could lock down an enemy as he melds minds with them. Then they'd get part way through reworking Viktor and realize they actually just made a gray version of an existing champion. Good thing there's no existing character in League of Legends that does all that right?
@@oetic5016 saying that this "was bound to happen" when Riot has some of the most creative ppl working on this game? and we already have champs that r similar with yasuo & yone (and they work bc of totally different reasons anyway), we dont need another one
I feel like the old Viktor design and motivations could've worked for the new arcane continuity, like he realizes the arcane is too powerful for humans to control but because he now has the hexcore stuck in him he builds a new metal body to contain its power and prevent another apocalypse, convincing himself that his weak flesh is what allowed him to be corrupted and that metal is the perfect conduit for the arcane.
Tbh viktor in arcane had his dolls(robot things) that moved in synergy with each other like one mind. Viktor must have had god level psychological prowess to control them while doing everything else. The viktor in league is just viktor if he somehow cured himself and still worked with jayce because other than the death ray absolutely nothing else in his kit matches what he did in the series. Warwicks design while different still matched his fantasy of being a feral killing machine that just won’t die no matter what you hit him with.
Warwick wasnt done evolving so what we got was vanderwick and then viktorwick, neither of which adhere to his fantasy in the game. Im not complaining about warwicks visuals as i think how warwick was handled was probably the best course of action for the sake of the ecosystem of the show, but lets not sit here and pretend warwick mains are happy. Theyre not
I was about to say that. In the serie, Viktor can cure shimmer, create bluetooth, fly, read minds, create robots, incapacitate about everyone and partially survive a bomb that killed Heimerdinger in a second. He had no shield spell, gravity trap, any ability to generate a growing storm and doesn't rely on constantly upgrading himself because he's already space jesus. The two things that connect both version is the name and the laser (which is barely used in the show and isn't even usefull or even remotely associated in a meaningfull way to space jesus). Such a travesty 😢
What’s messed up about this visual rework is that the reason why Arcane Viktor came to be is because the Arcane writers felt cybernetics in piltover and zaun were too common for the story and then decided to make him corrupted by the supernatural, in which he’s ironically more common cause you could name 5 or more champions that are also corrupted by the supernatural. They took piltover and zaun in mind but not runeterra as a whole.
Well saying it like ‘corrupted by the supernatural’ is being very uncharitable. The arcane is 100% a half machine half magic sort of thing. The show 100% has a unique take and great character in victor. I think it looks great but it’s transition to league is a bit funky to say the least
@@Uwujarvis to say hexcore didn't influence him would be crazy tho Bro didn't actually do anything to help zaunites before that point and just got shown magical footprints to make a commune
@@Uwujarvis we could have seen him inventing anything that makes it easier to live in zaun besides the hex claw that has no reason to exist in his current design
It is actually supposed to be cannon although that means a complete change in the base lore. Many zaunites in the lore now have no lore that makes sense. blitzcrank, Warwick, twitch, and others have had their entire backstory rewritten by arcane with zero care to the characters affected by it.
They should've just made arcane viktor a new champ with new tool sets and kept the old viktor. Maybe change the name to avoid confusion, like the machine herald is renamed to victor.
I liked when viktor was the machine herald and not the herald of the arcane the new title sounds so generic for a mage and thats how he feels to me now just another mage but worse he doesnt look like a robot he looks like an atomic heart cosplayer
10:21 - random Shaco jumpscare To be fair though: I don't like the new design. They should've either fully commit to the Arcane version and start from scratch completely changing his playstyle or at least went with a different model - I really think the new one looks worse than the old one. We went from machine to mediocre.
The problem with it is that they threw a fckng horrible design, yeah sure it looks good in Arcane, but deep inside we are expecting something more, like an actual glorious evolution. But riot did do it, when they hinted the icon everybody hated it, and yet they still continued to do it. It's a FCKNG downgrade, the old designs wasn't even a bad design, it's just old and needs a few tweaking, but Riot ruined it.
I know you've put a janky editing disclaimer in the video, but that random Shaco when you were talking about erasure of a character from the lore was surprisingly spot on
I want to see 2 things 1 what the changes were gonna be to viktor and why the viktor mains were against them apart from the fact that they were different from the original. Looking at how they changed the name of both chaos storm and death ray to arcane storm and hextech ray, those two abilities were gonna be fairly similar to the original, but his q and w might have changed 2 bring back giving champs original skins, it is the one thing any champ that has had a big change to them should have. Aatrox is still very similar in design to his previous, but skarn, viktor, galio, fiddlesticks should all get skins that are reminiscent of their old designs
@@leocheung8860 Cuz then they had a stream of reworks that didnt change the OG design that much, and said "oh traditionals are not needed" and the procceed to do a 180 to characters that completely changed their base designs
This is a problem that is born from making every league IP canon moving forward. I think the pushback also come from how arcane ending is "open ended" in such a way that its just hard to get into new viktor
This rework continues Riot's effort to sand off all rough edges and make everything clean, lean and pretty and I hate it. Even when they gave us the empress of the Void, the land of monsters and nightmares, they just had to give her a hot girl head.
I don't know what to tell you if you think his Arcane design is clean and pretty lol. If anything it's just the fault of the game developers for not translating his design well to the game.
I always find it so interesting that Jayce v Viktor in both lore and gameplay are so interesting. Jayce functions best when he's ahead of you and anywhere between respectable poke or paper thin eq machine when not whereas one has to always respect Viktor's W, E and Ult in a teamfight regardless because he thrives in chaos. Jayce in lore is about perfecting and regular advance when Viktor is about removing humanity to, ironically, become better at dealing with imperfections (the old color story with the boy visiting his house)
This is why, when they announced that "an arcane champion is going to receive a full visual rework", i was SO certain that it was gonna be Singed. Old viktor and Arcane viktor are oh-so different, straight-up retconning him feels like a waste when good ol' machine viktor was already quite popular. It doesn't make sense to rework a champion that works, does it? And while yes a small visual touch-up would've been great, he's quite low on the visual rework priority list, i feel like. Singed in League is one of the most visually outdated champions on the rift, down there with Gragas's 5 whole polygons. I can understand that they didn't want to rework him only visually, as yeah maybe Arcane singed doesn't fit at all with current Singed's gameplay; But if that wasn't an option either, why make a rework at all? Arcane Viktor should've been just a skin, just like all the other arcane skins. I genuinely don't understand what's going on at Riot recently, they're just doing fuckups over fuckups over fuckups on the skins side of things.
Honestly my opinion is that the "Arcane" he uses should sorta... feel more techy. Like it looks like voidy magicy biomancy. If it looked a lot more like Metal and Tech, with a fusion of machine and flesh motif everything would fit into place nicely. Heck all they needed was to put like a scene or two showing that when Vik in the show does his whole healing thing, his cultists become more hextechy... with like metal parts rather than just the whole Fingerprints on the head but otherwise fully normal look... fuck, they could even keep that fingerprints where Vik first laid hands upon them thing because that's really good as a detail. They wouldn't even have to change anything about the story either, just adapt the look of the Arcane to be less Biovoid Virus Flesh-looking and more "Tech and Flesh Merging" looking.
They do have metallic parts to them though? Of course it's heavily stylized but just looking at someone like Huck you can tell that the parts that were damaged got replaced by metal. And Viktor's body does show that the Arcane is kind of flesh-looking "tech" since it is metal made to resemble flesh and with energy pulsing underneath.
He looks absolutely terrible... I liked the cyborg look, now he's a tween wimp like Hwei. I love Hwei so I play Hwei, but if I want to play Viktor it's because I want to play the MACHINE herald.
@@deviljin_x all he had was a robotic arm and a mask though, not much cyborg stuff to him. I understand not liking his new look/thematic but I feel like people praise his old design too much
the worst part is that he doesn't even resembles Arcane Viktor, he's like a goofy version of that emotionless god-like figure. The legendary skin is even WORSE! why is he shirtless???? why he looks like a starving korean idol? he is supposed to be an Arcane savior like we saw in S2, but instead he's just an imitation, he does not have the same personality as Arcane Viktor, does not have the characteristics that made OG viktor special, and definitely does not seems as something that comes from League world building
i came back to this game yesterday. i loaded in one ARAM game and did not check the loading screen. i thought the Viktor was Azir lol they look exactly the same now
I understand people not liking it to be honest. I mean, if Riot decided to change Warwick to his Arcane version I'd be furious. I thought that Arcane should be adapting characters from the game, not the other way around. And yeah, in Arcane I did like this Viktor design. I didn't actually want it in the game because it deviates way too much from what Vijktor is in game. As I have said before, I would have liked a middle ground for his VGU. Keep the basics of the Arcane design but adding more machine parts to make him more similar to his old self.
it was addapting charactes from then game in season 1, in season 2 they were given free rein to do what ever they want and since Riot decided arcane is cannon they decided to Viktor rework the way they did
It's the ruined king effect all over again. We wanted a King of Ruin, we got a twink that ruined the king. We wanted a machine herald, we got a machined twink that heralds only a dreadful future for people who enjoy non-generic character designs.
A "king of ruin" is already in the game as mordekaiser. Any kind of lunch king design already has to compete with morde and his full-armored kingly design. Viego's design in league is "pretty" because he's a romantic, his goals are entirely related to his love for Isolde.
@@UltraLG2444 Mordekaiser is the king of the death, Viego is an egoistic, narcistic and heartbroken king, it makes sense that he looks somewhat young and attractive
Another thing that no ones talk about, is that in Arcane Viktor obsession with a "Glorious Evolution" came from nowhere after he became space jesus, you could se how he wanted to "replace" his body parts in the final of season 1, but season 2 came out of nowhere and this wasn't a plot point until it was, it was like the writers remember he IS a champion and "Glorious Evolution" was something already and they needed to put it there
Old Viktor when his upgrade E used to be instant, was my first actually main champion. The idea of a scientist turn into badass machine is so cool, not an emo dude try to become God savior
My problem with all this even as a viktor main or at least his in my top 10 most played, is that people think old viktor was this masterpiece of lore and gameplay and let me tell you it is not, most not all obviously but most who say this are blinded by nostalgia and haven’t played league in a long time and like I’m the first at shitting on riot but he’s design doesn’t express what he’s suppose to be he has a “I look cool and that’s it” kind of design league was known for about a decade ago but Ofcourse I’m also pissed that they didn’t rework him with his gameplay even tho they said they would but they kept the old wanky kit they just buffed it and it feels good but people malding over the new design are just mald but yeah it’s stupid that they didn’t change his kit but only his design from arcane which is great but works on arcane and people thinking riot is gonna listen and before anyone says something i was an old asol main and i know how it feels when riot erased my favorite champ for the “lore accuracy” and like he’s factually better in game and yes they should bring traditional skins back but i fucking hate Hippocrates. (Sorry about the rant I’m not talking about this comment section mostly twitter)
Couldn't care less about the scrawny looks. It's losing the machine thematic that feels VERY bad. And the one throwaway line in the show where the new definetely-not-machine Viktor tries to pretend to still be machine-related is outright insulting.
Imo viktors story in Arcane works way better than him just being a machine. It's a more space odyssey take on "evolution", rather than just machine body augmentation we have on many champs like camille.
@conniefan123 "rather than just machine body augmentation we have on many champs"; such as the one you mentioned, old Viktor, and Orianna, and Urgot. Truly many many champs
@@Lin_Nascimento yeah, augmentation, especially hextech, has already been done many times. The new concept really fleshes out "Glorious Evolution" more and is separated from other augmentation champs, giving viktor a much more unique identity
@conniefan123 Awful argument. "Works in arcane" followed to "we have many like camille"; Yeah it works in Arcane cuz we DONT have a gazillion mages, or worse, a straight up duplicate concept in Malzahar IN ARCANE. And then the immidiate example after saying "works IN Arcane" is using a champion that didnt even appear on the show.
I think I would rather have a full kit and vgu rework if they want to do it so badly. The end result seemed like rushed and not much tought put into it.
2:30 Caitlyn was reworked harder than Viktor! I literally went from a 2-season Diamond to scared to play ranked lest I end up a bronzie because you HAVE to take the Critlyn build, making her Q and R pretty much worthless. Only crit item I ever took on her before was The Collector, I always, ALWAYS went full lethality, even taking Prowler's Claw and selling boots to fully min-max. Relying on AAs keeps me chasing a target, mis-step and get caught out, I used to use the sniper champ as a SNIPER, relying on W+Q damage and damaging 100-0 in a single R. It feels like it took more skill to use R on a 40% health tank that I knew wouldn't die so a full health squishy would try to tank it and get literally 1-shot, I don't wanna abide by conventional ADC "skill", spamming AAs while trying to sidestep skillshots - it's completely antithetical to the role of a sniper. I want to shoot a hextech sniper, if I wanted an AK-47 simulator I'd play Jinx or an FPS.
I loved Viktor and would play him occasionally. I will not be playing him anymore because they murdered my boy. I think I'll stop playing altogether if they change jinx completely to be her arcane version. I like arcane, but arcane jinx ≠ lol jinx.
For me, its his voice. The Arcane Viktor has a glorious combo of a subtle slavic accent and slightly aetherial/transcendental voice effect every so often. The in game one first isn't even the same VA, but the echo-y roboticised effects make him difficult to even understand.
Erasing Cyberpunk Viktor when the Cyberpunk theme and the writing of going full " chrome no ganic" is so strong in modern media after edgerunners success changing him to generic alien mage creature is so lame
Just fully rework him or don't change a thing. Viktor now lost his identity, he's neither old Viktor or Arcane Viktor so who is this one for? I personally would love if they fully reworked him and said bye bye to old, outdated, vague lore Viktor and push hard on their plan for one big, cohesive narrative and lore.
While i do agree that they should go all in if they decide to rework, i just have to ask: Why do you feel the need to completely delete a champion from the game?
You're absolutely right about how his gameplay doesn't match his new look. I don't hate the look of Arcane Viktor (though some of the sound effects are weird) but it should have been a skin and not replace the original. Not to mention that Arcane Viktor could have benefited from looking a little more like the OG version. Heck they didn't even give us a skin that was reminiscent of his OG look. They did that for Karma when they drastically changed her visuals but couldn't be bothered here apparently. I'm very glad they fixed his W (there was one video that showed how it could take somewhere between 1.5 seconds to 3.5 seconds for it to stun someone from the moment of casting it. With the changes it's now at a about 2 seconds much more consistently.)
It's fun that you say that because on the Viktor subreddit I saw some people that said they played him because they had a limp like Viktor and they don't like him anymore because he doesn't. The duality of men
My biggest problem is that this design isn't even accurate to the show. I would miss old Viktor, I would sure do, but I don't dislike the Arcane version. In fact I like how otherworldly and uncanny it feels. Yet none of that is transfered to the game. Even in the show and the concept art he was way more mechanical, now he looks like a purple alien.
Viktor was never a buff or super manly chad, he was a weak guy who upgraded himself for the glorious evolution, but his model in game just looks like a woman
As a casual Victor enjoyer, the base model is alright, even if stuck between old Victor abilities and new lore. The skins however are just uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. The creator, prototype and deathsworn are literally downgrades
I honestly thought that the rework would've been for his passive; absolutely SHOCKED that they left his passive unchanged. I understand leaving all his basic abilities alone, despite the lack of synergy between them, since they're very practical as you say. But his passive has been reworked twice and each time he loses a little bit of identity with it. It's currently a weird sidegrade to syndra's passive. Would've loved to see a reiteration on the concept of the hexcore given it's retcon in Arcane
Yeah, it's a bit strange how one of the OG big bads of runeterra is now... This. Before viego and bel'veth, viktor was THE big bad champion, cuz even if he wasn't the strongest or most powerfull villain, he had the apocalyptic potential of a zumbie virus, only with machines that are always evolving... And now... Now he's a scrawny dude who uses magitech tools to fight. It just... Doesn't hit the same, you know?
He didnt look robotic before, he looked like he was wearing fantasy armor with a slightly robotic third arm that has a glove attached... new viktor feels like biomechanical, it still feels metal but even less robotic... I feel like Urgot, Camille, and Orianna do the robotic augmentation better with clearer visuals, sillohuettes and cohesive designs
Are you guys familiar with HR Giger? I'm sure most are Yeah that's how new Viktors design could have worked A biomechanical amalgamation that looks absolutely terrifying It combines both what we want and what rito wanted Shame we got a blue wizard instead
honestly, a traditional skin like trundle and karma got, that maintained the original proportions/style of the character would have been the best option with this VGU. Either that or just give viktor a couple of arcane themed skins, and give him a VGU of his base design. But this all stems from them making arcane ad the animated shows canon, riot has a long history of being horrible with canon, they should have just kep them separated
funny enough, i think they could've avoided this entire controversy by finally embracing the multiverse part of lol. have different skins representing different timelines and such. so if people want cyberpunk viktor, they still could use it. they could even start doing VGU's and reworks like this too. i'm guessing they leave the old code in the game files anyways because it seems most devs don't care about cleaning up their code.
They could just add Arcane Viktor as alternate universe anomaly and being new champ. It would work because of arcane and their interactions would be interesting.
I’m conflicted on the visual update but I mean no one played the champ before this or arcane. I wanted to learn Viktor around a year ago and the only person I could watch to learn was dune. I’m just happy he is getting played more. I’m happy that more if not most people are putting out content on him. That being said he needs some whoppers bro
Before I watch, as someone who has loved and played viktor for years I’m not THAT disappointed by his visuals. They are okay, kinda cool in some ways. The real sad thing is riot called this a VGU when we got very minor gameplay changes and no new skill expression. I wanted more than a point and click Q or a rumble ult on my E. They somehow managed to make the W feel good so I’ll give them props for thats.
I don't understand viktor mains who wanted his kit to be completely changed in the VGU... it already feels great to me and the little changes they made are great. Like how u gonna main a champ and want them to completely change his gameplay
As someone who gave zero damns about old victor I like the new one, but I understand how confusing his new appearance can blur the line with his in game mech lore.
Viktor biggest buff possible would be having his W have the Grounded effect. It would easily keep him off the problems of mobolity creep that we living today. Character wise, Arcane Viktor would've worked much better as a legendary skin as you said as The Machine Herald got an ASU with a buff here and there, not get thrown out of the window for Twinktor.
@@Jayn-Sync Cassiopeia can barricade an entire lane with a 80% slow that grounds with her Miasma. Just have slow as basic and grounded as upgraded with the stun at the end.
So little changed gameplay wise that calling this a VGU feels like a straight up lie. Like give me an updated Q or bring back the old W effect of dragging people to the center. Having an ult that grows I feel like isn’t enough to classify this as a VGU
I'm in agreement with you on the, it should of just been a skin thing. The ultimate update is nice, but they shouldn't of robbed us of our metal man. I enjoyed having a steampunk slash magitech guy now it's another funky looking mage...
i think they should have said that arcane is a new story with Characters we know from lol and the lore is still canon but i understand why they say they only want 1 main storyline
Personally I wish they changes abilities a little bit and incorporated the Arcane dolls and his Runes. Having your q choose a rune that gives an auto attack modifier and different buff depending on runes chosen that effect ultimate and Laser, W that works similar to now but instead of stunning it summons dolls to root champions and have to be autod to remove them, and E could remain the same but take on the properties of the rune chosen with Q. the Q could provide a buff to movespeed, shielding, slow, and dmg shred but you have to choose one after Evolve two can be combined. The Passive could still be evolutions that provide strong effects to abilities. The Runes and Dolls were a core feature of Arcane Victor if they wanted the Arcane Herald then that is ehat he needed to be incorporated.
I really like the new design, I just think that they should have changed his Q and W a bit more, rather than just change ult. like maybe make his W knock up after being in it, or make it ground enemies before stunning (both play in the idea of gravity field). His Q could have been changed (even if the same ability), to something more arcane related such as taking control of people’s minds (could be similar to Renata Q? I just think if they’d changed him just a little bit more, mostly his Q and W, then it would have been worth it. Even more so, could have made him stack infinitely, like maybe at 16 can decide to upgrade one of his abilities again, and have it do even more (Q could deal true damage, W could draw people in like Asol E, E could deal dashes through or deal damage while in it, and ult could draw people in like Asol E etc
its so funny how they barely changed anything but removed the good skin, like it cant be that hard to update the base skin R to have a grow effect, everything else is the same
I'd argue the "perfection" you pointed out is perfect for old Viktor. The glorious evolution was all about making people into perfect machines, no? The hodge-podginess of his old design paid homage to his Zaunite roots, but if Riot really wants to make Arcane canon, they could easily just make his appearance more "perfect". He has access to Piltovan resources now as a respected academy student and Jayce's/House Talis' favor, so he can access better/more manufactured parts and thus look more symmetrical, put together, "perfect". I'm not a Viktor player nor any kind of lore expert but my main issue is just that he doesn't look machine-like anymore. He's all-in space jesus, no glorious tech evolution. It's fundamentally not the same vibe anymore
Thank you for the Ultimate Skin idea...that is what i've been saying from the start...a perfect skin with a glorious evolution throughout the game just like pulsefire ezreal
i view new viktor as a dnd artificer. using magic to bend metal to your will rather than just strictly using machines. part of me likes this more because i think urgot kinda fills the cyborg fantasy a bit better.
Yeah in the game we have Urgont, Orianna and Camille who already are cyborgs and they actually pull off the aesthetic better than old Viktor. This new Viktor has more of a biomechanical design with his body being made of metal made to look like flesh
I hate how riot redacts characters out of existence, like old aatrox and viktor may as well not have existed for the last few years. Would be great if there was a classic server so we can play as these old iteration's again.
I think the problem is that these are just two very good but very different characters trying to be merged into one and it just doesn't work for either of them like you have the arcane herald and in game he has a pew pew laser like the kit doesn't make sense for the arcane herald while the machine herald has been completely visualy lost like I think it would have been better if they actually split victor like have the core extracted and it can evolve on its own and turn into the arcane god and have the original Victor remain damaged so that he can maybe realise that to reach the glorious evolution he needs something he can controlle unlike the hexcore maybe then he goes back to the machines from the 1 season or something like that idk but then you need to rethink the whole Victor Jayce ambesa thing it just feels that they had to sacrifice smothering to end up with such a great series and Victor just happened to be that it's a shame I was looking forward to playing him after a vgu with he still needs like he's kit is just weird
Easy fix: Arcane Viktor and League Viktor are from 2 separate universes, as we've seen from the Arcane with Jayce, Ekko and Heimerdinger. And so Arcane Viktor remains in the show obviously, but we also keep the League Viktor, and then make his rework a skin, badaboom.
Viktor was such a genius design, so much fun to play, but seeing the new Viktor just makes me Sad... I Mean am i happy hes getting changes yes, but as you pointed out these changes just dont fit into his established design...
they could have simply buffed his R like they did, but made this skin an ultimate skin or something oh right as i posted this you said it yourself pfft
I was hoping that they were going to go down a route where Ekko somehow timewarped everyone back to before Viktor destroyed stuff to put us back on track with how things turn out according to the game. I was hoping the twist that Viktor's new knowledge would turn him away from hextech and make him a chemtech machine man instead. Nope instead of robo-transhumanist he just becomes a interdimentional space jesus mage. Lame.
As someone who has always played Viktor and loved playing him I really don't like the arcane version. I love Arcane but the problem I see is they had a way to write it in. For example, after Jayce almost kills him, Singed should have rebuilt a robotic monstrosity that was keeping space jesus alive. Not only that, why the fuck does he have a third fucking claw hand if hes space jesus? Maybe Viktor takes that as a memento and Singed uses it to keep Viktor alive. Making this work way better and not sacrificing the cool machine aesthetic.
The problem with Viktor rework is that it was positioned as VGU, but it became just an ASU. And it feels like RIOT is insisting on it being a full-blown VGU, lol

In the same universe we have so many generals and soldiers, I am sure they are common too. God knows what'll happen to them
Well saying it like ‘corrupted by the supernatural’ is being very uncharitable.
The arcane is 100% a half machine half magic sort of thing. The show 100% has a unique take and great character in victor. I think it looks great but it’s transition to league is a bit funky to say the least
@@Uwujarvis to say hexcore didn't influence him would be crazy tho
Bro didn't actually do anything to help zaunites before that point and just got shown magical footprints to make a commune
@@canozbegen well he was a bit focused on not fucking dying himself. I don’t blame him for only starting to help other than he could
@@Uwujarvis we could have seen him inventing anything that makes it easier to live in zaun besides the hex claw that has no reason to exist in his current design
Whatever happened to the "Arcane Lore is seperate from League lore" thing they established with the first season
They canonized it after the first season ended and saw how popular it was
They immediately backtracked during season 1 due to the popularity.
It is actually supposed to be cannon although that means a complete change in the base lore. Many zaunites in the lore now have no lore that makes sense. blitzcrank, Warwick, twitch, and others have had their entire backstory rewritten by arcane with zero care to the characters affected by it.
It’s dumb that popularity did this. It’s ok for them to be different
Riot has more say than Fortiche and its writers. It's so stupid.
They should've just made arcane viktor a new champ with new tool sets and kept the old viktor. Maybe change the name to avoid confusion, like the machine herald is renamed to victor.
On the subreddit we call the arcane herald Vincent
I liked when viktor was the machine herald and not the herald of the arcane the new title sounds so generic for a mage and thats how he feels to me now just another mage but worse he doesnt look like a robot he looks like an atomic heart cosplayer
It could have been a skin, that's all he needed ffs
The canonization of Arcane and its consequences
10:21 - random Shaco jumpscare
To be fair though: I don't like the new design. They should've either fully commit to the Arcane version and start from scratch completely changing his playstyle or at least went with a different model - I really think the new one looks worse than the old one. We went from machine to mediocre.
I’m just sad for my boy blitzcrank, bro got written out of the lore bc of arcane and the reimagined viktor. Give me back my rolling golem.
Blitzcrank got the skarner treatment
The problem with it is that they threw a fckng horrible design, yeah sure it looks good in Arcane, but deep inside we are expecting something more, like an actual glorious evolution.
But riot did do it, when they hinted the icon everybody hated it, and yet they still continued to do it. It's a FCKNG downgrade, the old designs wasn't even a bad design, it's just old and needs a few tweaking, but Riot ruined it.
Facts
I know you've put a janky editing disclaimer in the video, but that random Shaco when you were talking about erasure of a character from the lore was surprisingly spot on
You want arcane to be cannon.
*the monkeys paw curls*
I want to see 2 things
1 what the changes were gonna be to viktor and why the viktor mains were against them apart from the fact that they were different from the original. Looking at how they changed the name of both chaos storm and death ray to arcane storm and hextech ray, those two abilities were gonna be fairly similar to the original, but his q and w might have changed
2 bring back giving champs original skins, it is the one thing any champ that has had a big change to them should have. Aatrox is still very similar in design to his previous, but skarn, viktor, galio, fiddlesticks should all get skins that are reminiscent of their old designs
2 bugs me especially when they used to do exactly that with old champs like Karma and Trundle but stopped for some reason
@@leocheung8860 Cuz then they had a stream of reworks that didnt change the OG design that much, and said "oh traditionals are not needed" and the procceed to do a 180 to characters that completely changed their base designs
they just made him looks so uncanny. not just because he's thinner, but the proportions in-game are so off.
That is the point. In the show he’s uncanny too. They just failed to port the show’s good uncanny over
That's kinda the point. It meant to show that the Arcane are unpredictable uncanny and corrupt.
He IS uncanny. As he should be.
he not look like viktor in the show
he's not uncanny at all in the show which is the funny part
This is a problem that is born from making every league IP canon moving forward. I think the pushback also come from how arcane ending is "open ended" in such a way that its just hard to get into new viktor
This is why I think riot shouldn’t have stopped making Traditional skins with their reworks
The remodeled Viktor, i think, should have had a new kit, but then it wouldn't be Viktor anymore. Maybe as a separate champion it could've worked?
Just rename the old Viktor to Machine herald
This rework continues Riot's effort to sand off all rough edges and make everything clean, lean and pretty and I hate it. Even when they gave us the empress of the Void, the land of monsters and nightmares, they just had to give her a hot girl head.
I don't know what to tell you if you think his Arcane design is clean and pretty lol. If anything it's just the fault of the game developers for not translating his design well to the game.
the hot girl head made sense, since she uses it pretend to be a person and then BAM it's actualy monster. It's nice bait and switch
@@trimex7234it's a twink, he still has the same cute face
I wouldn't really say old Viktor was popular. You would almost never see him unless he was particularly good that patch.
Please for the love of Zaun don't touch singed gameplay kit, do whatever with his looks but leave the gameplay the same
Honestly my opinion is that the "Arcane" he uses should sorta... feel more techy.
I love Hwei so I play Hwei, but if I want to play Viktor it's because I want to play the MACHINE herald.
the design works for hwei because he’s an artist but viktor is supposed to be the gigachad cyborg guy and it just makes no sense on him
@@deviljin_x all he had was a robotic arm and a mask though, not much cyborg stuff to him. I understand not liking his new look/thematic but I feel like people praise his old design too much
@@trimex7234 it could’ve been more cyborg’y like urgot but i think his old design just has a lot of charm
i thought they reworked his kit and was being excited about his new ability. But if they just reskin him then it could have just been a skin.
the worst part is that he doesn't even resembles Arcane Viktor, he's like a goofy version of that emotionless god-like figure.
I have gripes on the lore. They just sandwiched Blitzcrank in there to make him included. Not to mention. It seems like it was written by AI.
People really throw the word AI at anything these days
Rito gave Viktor Ozempic :(
As a viktor main for sometime now i feel like apart of the 1% that actually doesnt mind the change
i came back to this game yesterday. i loaded in one ARAM game and did not check the loading screen. i thought the Viktor was Azir lol they look exactly the same now
hey thats Twinktor for u Mr. Vars
Keep the basics of the Arcane design but adding more machine parts to make him more similar to his old self.
it was addapting charactes from then game in season 1, in season 2 they were given free rein to do what ever they want and since Riot decided arcane is cannon they decided to Viktor rework the way they did
WW is next, I bet you that much
It's the ruined king effect all over again. We wanted a King of Ruin, we got a twink that ruined the king. We wanted a machine herald, we got a machined twink that heralds only a dreadful future for people who enjoy non-generic character designs.
Sadly generic character designs sell well. Viego is very popular and I’m assuming new viktor will be too.
Can't wait for them to to turn Shyvanna into a breedable femboy dragon-girl in the upcoming rework.
OLD VIKTOR WAS NOY GENERIC?, HUH?
A "king of ruin" is already in the game as mordekaiser. Any kind of lunch king design already has to compete with morde and his full-armored kingly design. Viego's design in league is "pretty" because he's a romantic, his goals are entirely related to his love for Isolde.
@@UltraLG2444 Mordekaiser is the king of the death, Viego is an egoistic, narcistic and heartbroken king, it makes sense that he looks somewhat young and attractive
God damn does his kit feel so clunky, especially his E. Also he just dosent feel like his arcane counterpart.
If you are having trouble with his e, try clamping cast to max cast range, really makes a huge difference
@lucashodges5134 I'll try this cause to be honest after moving I usually just fire it at my feet 🙃.
it’s the same as with Kathus. Once you tick that setting on it’s like a different champion
@@Trykyl1 ironically I play karthus without clamp cast lmao 🤣
I remember the good ol days of Kleptomancy Viktor
Viktor got a VU, not a VGU, you can't call the small number CHange on Passiv, and the new Effect on Ult a Gameplay Update.
The idea of a scientist turn into badass machine is so cool, not an emo dude try to become God savior
i miss his badass laugh when using e
If you think he looks different imagine how I felt about Galio :p
Old galio sucks
They just didn't commit to making him his Arcane counterpart, and for the life of me, I can't understand why if they were going to bother at all.
It's a more space odyssey take on "evolution", rather than just machine body augmentation we have on many champs like camille.
he's just another magic dude in the game now
feelsbadman
He went from "Empowered" to "Fragile".
He looks uncanny and not so human, old Viktor looked ridisculous and funky, WHY THE HELL YOU CAN SEE HIS HAIR FROM BEHIND HIS HELMET?
@@hanshysher6266cause it's a mask not a helmet
I think I would rather have a full kit and vgu rework if they want to do it so badly. The end result seemed like rushed and not much tought put into it.
This is the worst rework ive ever seen, truly a failure from riot.
Wow this is reactionary
Nah Skarner was worse. Got the personality out of him, the funniest part of him got gutted and his lore got retconned BC lux is more important I guess
"rework"
>look inside
>asu with a tweaked ult
In the past they also gave us the classic skin after a visual rework, why would they stop...
R.I.P. machine herald, hello herald of the arcane, to sum it up
For me, its his voice. The Arcane Viktor has a glorious combo of a subtle slavic accent and slightly aetherial/transcendental voice effect every so often. The in game one first isn't even the same VA, but the echo-y roboticised effects make him difficult to even understand.
I miss my cyborg chad
Erasing Cyberpunk Viktor when the Cyberpunk theme and the writing of going full " chrome no ganic" is so strong in modern media after edgerunners success changing him to generic alien mage creature is so lame
Just fully rework him or don't change a thing. Viktor now lost his identity, he's neither old Viktor or Arcane Viktor so who is this one for? I personally would love if they fully reworked him and said bye bye to old, outdated, vague lore Viktor and push hard on their plan for one big, cohesive narrative and lore.
I always knew vgus were evil but the communities conti ued demand for more is outragous
While i do agree that they should go all in if they decide to rework, i just have to ask: Why do you feel the need to completely delete a champion from the game?
On the flip side, they could’ve made Jinx into Arcane Jinx and it wouldn’t have been an issue
I mean the biggest change Jinx could've gotten gameplay wise is a joker-like "he shoots a bigger craziness rocket"
Viktor got that Glorious Twinkification
8:25 ngl i love this camrea angle feels so fresh seeing league from this angle
As an extremely skinny and self conscious person why tf would i want to play as myself? I wanna be bigger and badass not twiggy and fragile
It's fun that you say that because on the Viktor subreddit I saw some people that said they played him because they had a limp like Viktor and they don't like him anymore because he doesn't. The duality of men
10:22 yeah so they basically sacrificed OG Viktor for Arc- wait did you see that??
the glorius twinkification
My biggest problem is that this design isn't even accurate to the show.
I would miss old Viktor, I would sure do, but I don't dislike the Arcane version. In fact I like how otherworldly and uncanny it feels. Yet none of that is transfered to the game. Even in the show and the concept art he was way more mechanical, now he looks like a purple alien.
Viktor was never a buff or super manly chad, he was a weak guy who upgraded himself for the glorious evolution, but his model in game just looks like a woman
He moves like Evellyn
@@elweon420even the cape looks like eves tails now..
I'm sure most are
Yeah that's how new Viktors design could have worked
A biomechanical amalgamation that looks absolutely terrifying
It combines both what we want and what rito wanted
Shame we got a blue wizard instead
honestly, a traditional skin like trundle and karma got, that maintained the original proportions/style of the character would have been the best option with this VGU.
Then it's just a buffed singed super adhesive cause it has a stun
Tangent about Arcane. Did anyone else notice that only ONE character had a truly happy ending?
.

Singed
It's not gonna be a Happy ending cause eventually oriana is gonna hate him and run away
Easy fix:
Arcane Viktor and League Viktor are from 2 separate universes, as we've seen from the Arcane with Jayce, Ekko and Heimerdinger.
And so Arcane Viktor remains in the show obviously, but we also keep the League Viktor, and then make his rework a skin, badaboom.
Ahm no
i think his gameplay needs a rework bigger than the r changes but the idea of what viktor is needs to stay on the lore
Viktor was such a genius design, so much fun to play, but seeing the new Viktor just makes me Sad...
I Mean am i happy hes getting changes yes, but as you pointed out these changes just dont fit into his established design...
They twinkified the machine herald
Also if you look inside there's no more machine, and is barely a herald
they could have simply buffed his R like they did, but made this skin an ultimate skin or something
oh right as i posted this you said it yourself pfft
I was hoping that they were going to go down a route where Ekko somehow timewarped everyone back to before Viktor destroyed stuff to put us back on track with how things turn out according to the game. I was hoping the twist that Viktor's new knowledge would turn him away from hextech and make him a chemtech machine man instead.
Nope instead of robo-transhumanist he just becomes a interdimentional space jesus mage. Lame.
Interdimentional tim traveling space Jesus is cool
I expected his rework to make him more like an ancient mage which made me a little interested in the character
If they did this to one champ,no champ is safe, next season will be in demacia, they'll turn Garen into a twink.
The problem with Viktor rework is that it was positioned as VGU, but it became just an ASU. And it feels like RIOT is insisting on it being a full-blown VGU, lol
I just don't understand why he became so tall
