Has anyone seen Kumogakure? As far as I know, there is no mokuroku, only principles, as in many other schools of ninjutsu. Spear used Juji Kamayari 十字鎌槍 But without special techniquesAnd also a device for climbing trees - Ippon sugi nabori. Gyokushin uses methods Ninpo taijutsu 玉心流忍法体術 Sutemi 捨て身, Tanuki-noki 狸, Metsubushi 目潰し, Kasumi gakure 霞隠, Hicho gakure 飛鳥隠, and also the rope Nawa nage 縄投. Naturally both use goton no jutsu. In Kumogakure, special emphasis is placed on Tenton juppo 天 遁 十 法. All of this suggests that Togakure, Gyokushin, Kumogakure are completely related to each other and of course the basis of Gyokko-ryu. What do you think about this?

If one only looks at the soke lineages, tracking names and tracks who was a student of who etc it certainly look like they are very related. Especially Gyokko, Koto and Gyokushin ruy, but that is only part of it. Kumogakure and Togakure may share a couple of sokes and sokes in Iga ryu overlaps almost all the schools according to Essence of Ninjutsu. Besides that one can see that the certain families pops up in the soke linages of all the mentioned schools.
The first Gyokkoshin ryu sokes listed was students of Gyokko and Koto ryu. There seems also to be a school called Gyokkoshin ryu Koppo with the same sokes as in Gyokkoshin Ryu Ninpo (at least in the begining as the later in the ninpo branch is unkown). Also there is an off-shot founded by someone who trained under the soke of both Gyokko and Koto ryu (they have always had the same soke) called Hontai Gyokkoshin Ryu, but the founder did not (as far as I know) train Gyokkoshin Ryu Ninpo, as one might expect by the name). Hontai Gyokkoshin ryu later change name to Izumo Ryu Koppojutsu. Interesting enough the teacher of the founder of Gikan ryu is also said to have studied under the same Gyokko and Koto ryu soke as the soke in Gyokkoshin Ryu Ninpo/Koppo and if I remember correctly (which I might not do) Gikan Ryu is said to contain much Koppojutsu as well. I wonder if "Gokkoshin" can be interpreted as "in the spirit of Gokko" with reference to Gyokko Ryu? Perhaps Gyokkoshin Ryu Ninpo was the out-branched Ninjutsu part of Gyokko Ryu just as Koto Ryu seems to have been the out-branched Koppojutsu part - and the foundation of them do not seem to be especially far apart in time either... Reorganization within the school perhaps?
The first listed as soke for Kumogakure ryu, Kumogakure Hoshi, was also soke in Iga ryu but so was Momochi Sandayu (the legend) at the same time (not uncommon in Iga ryu with two soke it seems). Simultaneously was Momochi Sandayu even soke in both Gyokko and Koto ryu. However it is also said that the Togakure lineage passed through Momochi Sandayu and entered into the Natori Ryu of Kishû Han, that was founded by Natori Sanjuko Mastake who wrote Sho Nin Ki.
At the same time (1500s) one can see that the name Toda start showing up in Gyokko ryu, Koto ryu, Kumogakure ryu and Togakure ryu alike, however they are not yet all under Toda influence at the same time but will be after Toda Seiryu Nobutsuna. Worth noting is that Kumogakure ryu had untill Takamatsu only one soke who had not been of the Toda clan, and that was it's founder. Some seven generations (or about 250 years) later, all under the Toda clan, Toda Shinryuken Masamitsu (Takamatsus teacher) would also bring in Shindo Fudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu and Taijutsu under the same umbrella of schools as well. But before that Ohkuni Izumo Mori Shigehiro, later soke over Kukishinden Ryu had study under Toda Eisaburo Nobumasa, soke in Gyokko, Koto, Gyokkoshin, Kumogakure and Togakure ryu alike.
So yes there is definitely some deep connections there.
