riley told a joke so bad that graydon messed up the intro for the first time in recorded human history
Tough watch
Dignan would never
What's your favourite franz ferdinand album
@@eoin7664I quite like the self-titled, but ‘You Could Have Done it So Much Better’ is also good.
@@eoin7664 self titled
Watching this on mute and letting the voices in my head narrate it 😂
Bouta do some shrooms and do the same 🙌🏾
Hivemind has the funniest viewers 🍻
48:25 there's something about Riley hating Wes Anderson so viscerally when Dignan was a Wes Anderson reference to begin with. Like that's poetic symmetry you couldn't script
I finally feel vindicated. I love Wes Anderson but I also turned off asteroid city after 20 minites.
That opening was one of the best Riley one liners of all time
Do not gas him up
It was just the same joke james Franco made to Nicki Minaj saying super bass was called superb ass
@@marcosortiz2466Thats a classic
The best scene is actually Michael Cera telling his crush that he's never at parties because of all the fun shit he does
Great scene. I like the one when Jonah Hill his talking to Emma stone telling her he can get the drinks for her party and Emma stone says “you scratch my back I’ll scratch your” and Jonah hill says “The funny thing about my back is it’s located on my cock”
I just watched this movie for the first time a few days ago and that scene was so funny
i’m superbad at life
A superb ad of what?
My life a movie fr
GOAT
Real af for that
Glad to see Riley recover from the Justin Long incident and attach to a new, completely unproblematic celebrity - Jonah Hill!
Oh no I had no clue Justin long was problematic
@@acbwest you have to watch all these videos in order by season if you wanna be caught up on the lore
"superb ad" made me roll my eyes & now they won't stop rolling someone help
They will never stop, they will continue to roll faster and faster
the more you roll your eyes, the bigger they get! it's like a snowball except your eyes WILL explode :D
two things: getting any kind of blood on you sucks, no matter where it came from. there’s nothing controversial about that statement.
how dare you not like wes anderson, riley. that is insanely offensive.
“do you think dune 2 is better than superbad” “yes only by half a star”
Why did you guys feel the need to express at length how cool with period blood y’all are LMAO
Ikr. I know it was kind of a bit, but sometimes it feels like they're trying SO hard to show people that they're on the right side of history. Like, they won't get cancelled for praising that scene lol.
@Gus1494 it's a joke...
i feel like bottoms in a way replicates the dynamic at least between sean evan and mclovin and this idea of getting laid and impressing girls and just crazy outlandish high school shit
oh riley literally said the thing
i was thinking the same but with booksmart except with less to do about getting laid
THIS OMG I loved both of them so much for the flawedness of the characters and the dynamic in general
i agree with all your opinions but i’m so upset you missed out the line where mclovin gets IDed and he goes ‘hah, makes me feel young again’ and when he goes ‘I heard they’re adding more hOps’ literally the way he says hops alone makes me laugh so much
also there’s jonah hill’s delivery of ‘we’re blood brothers’ i find that really funny
you’re right, the delivery on the h0ps line is so perfect. i was really hoping they would mention the cops’ lines at the party though. “prepare to be fucked by the long dick of the law” and “i assume you all have guns and crack” are goated. bill hader’s delivery of “oh no it’s the cops!” is most underrated imo
The 17 year olds would stand up for Asteroid City sorry Riley
That’s what’s wrong with society today… smh
riley hating wes anderson is such an opinion to have
You know what else is super bad? The way Riley crept into my house and ate all my favorite cat shit!
And he looked Super Bad while doing, was absolutely slaying that cat shit
well he DOES have ibs...
was it the lemon pepper cat shit? if so im sorry for your loss.
“Hey! Get away from my cat shit! Oh shit… I didn’t know you were chill like that.”
imagine being a brand new hivemind fan and just now finding out Riley can only eat cat shit
Riley hating asteroid city has upset me more than it should
and saying 17 year olds don’t like wes anderson ?
@@finlaylonghurstfr, i’ve never met someone my age who didn’t and or still loves fantastic mr fox
Wes is the antithesis to king Midas; everything he touches turns to shit
@@bigmeanie420 wes is for people perpetually stuck in their teens
So true Wes Anderson is my king
Another incredible line in the movie when mclovin and the cops are in the bar and over the walkie talkie they get a call and a cop is yelling “WE NEED BACKUP SO MUCH BLOOD” and they hang up immediately.
What happened to the plant’s leaf that looked a hair on my screen? BRING IT TF BACK NOW!
I know they didnt know each other as kids but id like to believe riley and graydon sat in sleeping bags saying i love you and booping each other
Riley and Graydon validating periods for a multiple minutes has to be one of my top 5 moments of theirs.
cis white men try not to overcompensate challenge (impossible)
New Hivemind post? Mom … I’ll be back in around 51 minutes 😂
😂
🤣🤣🤣
Day 2 of asking for the next episode to cover The Big Lebowski because you both could have easily been characters in that movie (especially Dignan)
mclovin I like purple
that’s one of my favorite movies shame i FUCKING hate graydon weaver
i’m sorry graydon i lied i could never be mad at you
😭😭
Fun fact the period dancing actress Carla Gallo came to my work recently, my coworker recognized her and Carla was the absolute sweetest and coolest gal. The interaction between her and my coworker was adorable and absolutely made my day
The vulgarity in this movie holds up well. Just because an offensive word is used, does not immediately make the movie offensive. The dichotomy between Seth’s short-sighted misogyny and Evan’s thoughtful reluctance is the heart of the movie. You both stated exactly what makes the movie work, because the lesson is that misogynistic thinking is bad. And being that way DOESN’T lead to “getting laid.” Without having Seth act so vulgar and misogynistic throughout the movie, we’d have no character growth or thematic punch at the end. Sometimes, art uses abrasive concepts to develop powerful themes. We should criticize art that uses abrasive ideas just for the sake of using them, or with malicious intent. But we shouldn’t take this censorship approach where we ignore all context and broader analysis just to say “words bad.” Love you guys though, and love this series
Y’all gotta have a “How Did It Age” for the Tom Green film, Freddy Got Fingered
Lmao ahh NGL that movie was like my guilty pleasure film growing up, It's pretty well known as a terrible film but it's almost intentionally terrible to me, Lots of ridiculous moments that are so dumb I can't help but crack up to them lol
That movie made me so angry, never wanted to throw a brick at a tv more
That film is high art
I love that movie but it makes my teeth itch lol
I'll save you some time. Absolutely poorly
riley and graydon's dynamic is just like evan and seth ngl
diggy is fogel
Dude. Im so glad ya'll said something about the "Fogel, HI!" line. For some reason that line is always the first that comes to mind when i think of this movie.
one of my favorite lines is when Joe LoTruglios character is in the phone at the party and the host confronts him and goes "what youre calling your firends? your fantastic fucking friends?"
which is so funny to me bc i cant help but picture a previous party where Joes character also wasnt supposed to be there and called some friends and when confronted he tried to convince the guy by saying theyre "fantastic"
You got MySpace?
riley talks so much about this movie not being possible today and how they should make a female reboot like booksmart doesn't exist?? it came out in like 2019 lmao
true, I would also submit bottoms into the conversation as a female, raunchy, kinda offensive comedy that I loved
Wouldn't booksmart be the female reboot that Riley said was possible?
@@jackbreuhaus6244 yeah I think so, he just didn't mention it
intro joke made my eyes roll so hard that if i laid face down i would start locomoting

superbad? i thought the soup was fine!
That opening one liner was probably the worst one yet, good job Riley!
Hating Wes Anderson for his aesthetic is wiiiiiiild
tru, you can hate him for his orientalism instead
Nuh uh
I don’t hate his aesthetic, I hate that he overdid it for a ridiculous amount of movies until it was dull and wasn’t cool anymore. I’m very tired of Wes Anderson.
The Royal Tenenbaums is a perfect movie. I can see how people can say his movies got stale over time. But the script, acting, set and costume design, and soundtrack are all just perfect in that movie.
And I've always held onto the belief that if an artist can strike gold once, make a masterpiece for just one song, one album, one painting, or one movie, then they should receive their flowers. People ask too much from artists.
this movie was my first netflix and chill in 2019. i didn't get any that night
one of my favorite moments is in the beginning when Seth is doing his monologue at the gas station and he sets the RedBull on the counter and Evan is already pulling his wallet out and Seth pauses and asked “can you get this for me?” it’s so hilarious and perfectly timed
no premiere gang
You can hear “these eyes” playing in the cop car after Evan sings it
12 fall offs? Hivemind is views in minutes

Yea fell off definitely hive mind since a lot
Riley pitching Female Lead Superbad like Booksmart doesn't exist. For shame!
Hivemind: couldn’t make Superbad today.
Seth and Evan in 2019: let’s make Superbad again but with sixth graders.
Not liking asteroid city is a skill issue tbh
It would be supergreat if you reviewed white chicks next
31:54 Riley’s “I remember that” 😭
I've always appreciated the small detail of Joe Lo Truglio telling Evan that he looks like Jimmy's brother when they first get into his car. About five years ago a friend who's the same age as me (both born 95) told me she had never seen Superbad growing up so we put it on and she loved it! Her reactions to every line made me feel like I was seeing it for the first time again. When I was in film school our screenwriting teacher would also always reference Superbad as an example of a perfect screenplay, and he was almost 40 when it came out. I think Superbad is like Mel Brooks movies, very of its time but it's hard for anyone to not appreciate the quality of the script and performances.
Been waiting for this one. Superbad is my second favorite comedy film of all time, right behind Requiem for a Dream.
The boys are usually so good at analyzing media, but naming race and culture would take them further. Like, 2007 was not a time that cops were “more chill”. This is just a movie written from the perspective of people who don’t experience brutality or harassment from law enforcement. In 2006 I helped put together a police brutality protest in my school, it’s been a big deal for our community since, well, let’s not talk about since when.
You must be fun at parties
Police brutality has existed since police as an institution has existed. Graydon and Riley don’t seem like the type of guys who wouldn’t understand or recognize that simply because they are white. My only guess is that the comment was because police brutality has been more recently very talked about across all media (partly because so many forms of media exists and a lot of society has come around to issues th black community faces) more than in years previous, rather than confined more to black media and spaces. It has always existed but now more than ever people of all races and backrounds are openly talking about it and there is more disdain than ever for police as form of “protection”.
@@dom19945why can’t they have criticism? It’s not like they called Riley and Graydon stupid, they just pointed out something that I also noticed while watching. The video is still great and Riey and Graydon have really astute observations, sometimes miss a mark, that’s okay.
I was thinking the same thing lol. like its not new its just coming to the forefront
@@Halfmoonbaee yeah that kind of seems like the case
I've watched y'alls music content before but this is the first time I'm seeing the movie reviews. I really loved this! So please keep making these How Did It Age videos, great stuff guys.
This really is my favorite series on TH-cam right now, this was a great idea.
49:53 all my friends have watched asteroid city and love Wes Anderson… we’re seventeen and some are 16
These guys clearly haven't talked to public school teenagers in a while
Yall gotta do the hangover
I’ve been waiting for this since the stepbrothers one came out
A video on Taxi Driver could be interesting for this serious. Obviously more serious than a lot of these movies but could be interesting since it was made so long ago and the themes of loneliness can be looked at differently in the age of the internet and modern technology
i met the actor who played mclovin backstage at a music festival in like 2015 while i was in a mascot costume. super nice guy.
I broke my nose at the williams sonoma on west 13th and granville ❤️ thank you for the recognizing it’s significance graydon
it took graydon so long to realise that riley was describing bottoms 😭
asteroid city rules. how are you not charmed.
Movie genuinely pissed me off with how hard it tries to be artsy and weird and surprising
It’s the only Wes movie I haven’t seen yet but it’s next on my watch list. I will probably love it as an unabashed Wes Anderson fan lol
@@HotStrange if you're a wes fan you'll love it. it's 2nd or 3rd for me behind grand budapest and (maybe) fantastic mr. fox, but i haven't seen life aquatic or isle of dogs
keep this series going it’s great,
also Super Troopers if y’all are taking suggestions
I've been waiting for this one since the series began. You know you have to do the Hangover series now? Or sticking to Michael Cera movirs with one of my favorites, Scott Pilgrim VS The World. A movie so good on it's own that most people don't care that it kinda fails as an adaptation of the comic. Really doesn't matter cause tbf every Scott Pilgrim thing is great and does it's own thing.
All of the lines you guys said were amazing. One line that always stuck with me was reference to Steven Glansberg, the random dude eating a dessert by himself at lunch 😂
this was a superbad video!! good job
me and my brothers talk about how well superbad captured the feeling of growing up in the suburbs of vancouver all the time. it was so normal but we found our own fun
Weird of them to cover a movie with a title that perfectly describes their channels
i luv these vids please keep doing them forever thanks
I’ve been waiting for this one
This the one I been waiting for ‼️
This is my favorite series of yours
This series has been so great! Would love to see what y’all have to say about Pineapple Express!
please do almost famous at some point!! such a beautiful movie about music
these videos always remind me that rileys the music guy of the duo and graydons the movie guy
If you are in you’re 20’s early 30’s and havent seen superbad i question your young life 😂😂..
Asteroid City was pretty good man. The French Dispatch was better though. Wes Anderson is great.
I still say the quote "I've never before see that in my life!"
Still really liking this series, would love to see it continue
Asteroid City is the Napoleon Dynamite of weird artsy movies
I think a good movie that uses the Superbad formula, but updates it for modern times is Booksmart. It's very similar to Superbad, but with lesbians
yes! that’s my thought.
Riley said Graydon was too critical when I only gave this two stars lol
I feel like the slurs and misogyny make sense for the characters. Like if they would make it today I feel like not much would change because that’s how most kids that age talk unfortunately
Graydon’s hair looking mighty nice this video fr
That intro was Supergood what the fuck
Superg Ood
okay but in terms of memorable quotes, every time I remember when mclovin was like "cause you know you're not staff..." kills me every time. like Seth already being pissed about his car being towed and fogel just being a pest is so fucking funny
this is what we’ve been waiting on
i watched this last night so this is perfect
Honestly in the remake they can just replace the period blood scene with Riley and Graydon's exact commentary on it in this episode, no notes
Let’s goooo I’ve been requesting this every vid
I’d love to see Graydon’s list of 10 funnier movies. It’s really a fair point and harder than it sounds. And I hope it’s more of a The Big Lebowski kind of list, than a Billy Wilder comedy or like Planes, Trains, & Automobiles. The question isn’t 10 comedies that are better than Superbad, but funnier than it
Graydon's hair looks so good here
This is the best day of my life i watched this movie last night hoping they would make a video about it😭😭
I can’t believe these guys are going to be 40 soon
true hivemind moment in the letterboxd section
damn that piece of loose string on Graydons pants must be STELLAR bc he was going at that bad boy for half of the damn video. I was ENTRANCED.
Superbad is probably one of if not the funniest movie of all time to me, Its one of the few movies that I've rewatched a hundred times and i still laugh out loud at things everytime i watch it. I think it aged surprisingly well, You guys kinda summed it up perfectly. Classic movie, Hopefully you guys check out Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Super funny comedy from the 2000's that doesn't seem to get talked about as much but it's an excellent parody of biopic films like Walk The Line & Ray. Haven't seen it in awhile so I'm curious myself how it has aged now.
I watched that movie within the last year and honestly don't think there's anything that didn't age well besides the idea itself. I think now the almost 1 for 1 parody shots from Walk the line in Walk Hard would be lost on any younger audience that has probably never seen Walk the Line. But I love that film so much. "You never bought drugs! Not one time," and "you don't want any of this Dewey," has been quoted in my friend group endlessly lol.
Thank you so much for removing the stray blade of grass in the background Omggggg
Superb Ad!
I’d love to see a how did it age for the 40 year old virgin.
