    Best thing about this game is that we will never have to see a Pete Golding coached Alabama defense ever again. They should add his Ole Miss hiring to the pregame video at Bryant-Denny.

      What? You aren't going to miss the delayed blitz, 3rd and long being an almost guaranteed first down, or the team looking lost and out of position on almost every down?

    1. Goal line stand late in the second quarter was the turning point, but I'm not sure how much K-State would have slowed down Bama's offense anyways so that was the right decision to go for it there.
    2. MASSIVE kudos to Young and Anderson for not opting out like so many other guys and balling out one last time. Makes it easy to cheer for guys like that, especially at the next level.

      I agree on both counts. It made sense for Kansas State to attempt that fourth down. I think they pressed with the onside kick to start the second half, though. That was unnecessary. Then after being that aggressive, they opt for a field goal when down 35-10, which was definitely questionable.

    I know some commenters worried that Bama Rewind was over because it took me a long time to get to this due to some technical difficulties and other behind the scenes issues. But the series rolls on and is now caught back up to the present, just in time for A-Day 2023.

      The D should have been a wrecking crew with the lineups they had with Golding. He was so worried about being beat down field all the time that he forgot to pressure. Wil Anderson could have broke Derrick Thomas official/unofficial sack record.

    This game was much more competitive than the score indicates. Watching these highlights, you'll see that the teams actually looked pretty evenly matched for much of the game. But a few mistakes and gambles really cost Kansas State, then they seemed to give up. This was not the equivalent of the Capital One Bowl against Michigan State after the 2010 season. Still, this was a very positive way to finish a disappointing year for Alabama. It was especially satisfying given that we've seen previous Saban era teams look apathetic in the Sugar Bowl. The best reflection on the 2022 team was that the players did not opt out of the bowl game and came ready to play.
    2023 will be the youngest team of the Saban era by a huge margin, so expectations should be held in check. If they consistently play the way that Alabama is supposed to play - with sound fundamentals and their best effort - that will be a great step in the right direction. I think reestablishing that culture is the most important thing this year.

      When it was 10-0 I was thinking it’s Utah/Oklahoma all over again. The 60 yard pass to Gibbs seemed to ignite the team.

      No it wasn't, lol. Alabama would easily win the Big XII.

    • @BamaRewind
      @BamaRewind  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The stats show that it was competitive:
      Total Yards - Alabama 496, Kansas State 401
      First Downs - Alabama 17, Kansas State 18
      Time of Possession - Alabama 24:56, Kansas State 35:04
      Absent the fourth downs and the turnovers, this game would have been very close.
      Alabama needed a last second field goal to beat the third place Big XII team's backup quarterback by one point. Given how badly they played in every single road game, I don't believe the 2022 Bama team would have won any power conference. They already had an extremely easy schedule, with only one game against a team finishing with fewer than four losses. The SEC West was the worst it has been since the 90s, but they failed to win the division. This team just was not good enough, mainly due to mental/emotional issues enabled by people acting like they were still the best team no matter what happened on the field.

      The DB’s will be much better. Terrion Arnold will def be improved, Caleb Downs is an instant upgrade to the safeties and so will be M. Moore or Devonte Smith. (Dunno about Kristian Story as he would’ve take Hellems/Battle job if so) Earl Little Jr. should be stout at nickel, shame he was injured this year. The difference in rush defense from ‘21 to ‘22 was one player, we lost Justin. E on the d-line this past year (or else would’ve been the exact same starters from ‘21) and went from a top10 rush defense to outside the top50. Lawson/Campbell is already an upgrade from To’o To’o/Moody. To’o To’o was undersized and couldn’t jam the middle.
