This is my favorite Iron Maiden song.
ahahahah sadly true
yeah
Well Metallica is heavily influenced by Maiden, so I don't get what the issue is.
*Sad, but true. :D
Sad but true*
This is an underrated song. I forgot how enjoyable it really is.
This song deserved the Grammy.
it is really sad how they just dont play it anymore... Back when it was released it seemed like it would be a permanent song on the set list, they used to play it almost every concert

cancer enough?
Im just enjoying their music, dont care about what others think.
Phil Michaels taxes are not certain. taxation is a crime. this song is OK, but Megadeth and Testament recorded better stuff
UP THE IRONS!
But right song...
I can feel some Maiden vibes through the song, some riffs, this comment is not just coincidence.
Guitar harmonies are very Iron Maiden-esque.
I thought that was not the only one who thought this sounded like Iron Maiden song
I think the same
Lars is a drummer that wanted to be a guitar player and James is a guitar player that wanted to be a drummer and it has made for some of the most unique arrangements and riffs ever\m/
And They Wanted to make Punk, but Harder. 😊
Explains why James can play drums better then Lars
Fuck that makes sense. I think you're right. They have a sense of rhythm worth a million dollars
@@BIGDADDYBALLZ420 Thats a low bar man
@@BIGDADDYBALLZ420 More than 80% of today's drummers become drummers because of Lars. Lars has a signature sound, one of few drummer with a signature sound. Therefore he fits Metallica 110%.
Metallica haters are a very strange subspecies. Metallica has evolved, why don't you?!
KylefirecraftYTGamer YT have you had a stroke?
Totally agreed with you Chris
Evolved for the worse generally. still capable of writing some good songs as with moth but too many average songs like this.
I wouldn't call this evolution. That's what bands like machine head are doing now. Metallica are just going backwards trying to appease fans by trying to go back to their early sound. They use to the the band that set the benchmark for everyone else to follow. Now they're just an average band that has lost its sense of direction and are just playing it safe.
At least with Load they were prepared to take risks. Might not have worked all the time, but it had some better tracks on it than this imo.
Or it could also be that there are just as many bands out there today with talent better than that of Metallica, sure they used to be the Benchmark, but now many other bands have passed them. Also, this album isn't out yet, so its still way to early to write this album off based off of 3 songs.
Newsflash, haters: Every artist sells out as soon as they sign a record deal.
Up the Irons?
you better be west ham mate

+Norbert Janz Check around 1:43 behind James' vocals. It's half the riff of Hallowed be thy name, in the intro part, just before Bruce goes "running loowwww-ohhhh". Like wise around 3:03 - they literally lifted parts of the melody.
***** Arguably, their best should include MoP (not Mists of Pandaria fgs, Master of Puppets). But yes, back then they were big on Maiden - and they never hid it. Well, if the Book Of Souls is stealing the intro of Wasted Years, I guess Metallica has the right to steal from them :P
Also, on KEA esp., there is borrowing and then there is admittance that the man wrote the damn song :D
GloryDouble7198 mop and ajfa are Simply masterworks...kea it's done by Kids for kids
+Norbert Janz when you listen to Mother Russia, you'll still have a hard time hearing how this song is plagiarizing Iron Maiden. I hear the influence but I sure as hell don't hear Hallowed Be Thy Name or Mother Russia. A sliver of a riff sounding like another song can be done with any song made by anybody. I think people knit-pick the hell out of Metallica.
Can't understand the negative comments about the vocals. I have been incredibly surprised and blown away by the quality of the vocals on these 3 tracks, especially the production of them. I want to say they are the best since the old school days but frankly, I like them even better than that. Perfect combination of evil Hetfieldy gnarl and awesome modern production. Very cool stuff.
I’ll more than happily bitch about the solos and drumming, but I never got the hate on the vocals. I think he sounds great. His voice has held up remarkably well compared to his contemporaries.
+Kimon Matara it's because hetfields voice isn't nearly as distorted as in the 80's and 70's
also, hetfields voice in the AJFA era was a lot lower than this new stuff. sounds better with his lower voice
The criticism lies in the fact that he always has the same vocal melody in spite of the backing music. the upper inflection of one sentence to the downward of the next
The only bad thing to say is that they are a little low in the mix.
Just had my first son this year, named him Atlas. This will forever be his victory song.
Haha , that's dope
BRUTAL
Soyunamedurson nowthatweredead
So what💀
He'll be awesome at geography!
Now some honest feedback: This song is quite the surprise! it has some Death magnetic flavor but the riff constantly reminds me of Hallowed be thy name (Iron Maiden), the song is pretty standard, nothing too extraordinaire, but it's something you can listen to without getting tired of it.
Lyrically speaking, James is on top of his game again! :D imagine this song live, that's what this song is missing, the roaring metallica family on the background.
Remember that every album is composed of "Bridge songs" like Tool, remember the 4TH Song of the lateralus album? That one called "Mantra" that leads up to the fantastic "Schism" track? What if this Metallica Song is just preparing us for the next track of the album, "Now that we're dead" we had the frantic "Hardwired to self destruct" before "Atlas Rise" you see the pattern?
Start off heavy no boundaries!! then slow down a bit, then retaliate with a heavier shot!
This track is just the warm up of something bigger, heavier and fucking epic.
Just to clarify, i'm not comparing these bands, it was merely explanatory :)
it does have a kind of Iron Maiden sound in someparts
James still has it in terms of coming up with a really solid and killer riff. However, this song is meh. If Metallica wanted to really shake things up, they should bring in a lead singer and let James do back up vocals and rhythm guitar. I don't think this song sucks are anything like that...Just feels like I heard many times before in other albums Metallica has done only not as fresh or good.
"Bridge Songs"? AKA filler before a good song? lol
Cecil Drakan dude go back to your milk and go to bed... this song a warm up???? and your attemp to review this song is a HUGE failure just by not mentioning the solos ... the melodies on the harmonies are unreal.

What exactly happened after Load and Reload?
Jimmy Jones James went to rehab and the band almost (or did) break up. Watch "Some Kind of Monster" it shows a couple years after those albums.
James And that's why they can't compare now to their first five albums?
Make your question clearer if that's what you meant....
As for comparing to "the first five albums," why does it always have to be? All of you people who hold a new Metallica song up to what you consider their best prevents you from hearing it as it is. They're still killing it and bringin' some epic, heavy metal, and that's enough for me.
Seems like a grower. Don't care for the solo. I hope they stop releasing songs and just put the rest out on release day.
Hands down this just has to be one of greatest Metallica songs ever both musically and lyrically!! It 's mythological allegorical theme , the riffs, the dual solo!!

A perfect show. But the riffs after 3:35 and 4:25 are unbelievable and I think they become a classic. No other band can catch this harmony.

They are influenced by NWOBHM bands like Maiden, Sabbath, Priest. So it stands to reason that some of their music is going to sound like that. They are also influenced by bands like Bad Brains and The Misfits. Hence, where their Punk sound comes from. Add those influences together with some blues and you get Thrash metal.

I hate one thing about comments on Metallica. Yes, Lars needs upgrading, yes,Kirk seems to play the same solo over and over again. But let's not forget a few thing: They're all over 50 years old, they created thrash metal, they still play (old school) thrash metal, they've been playing metal for more than 30 years now, and without them, a lotta bands would not be here (among them Testament, Slayer, Overkill, ...), so we'd better show more respect to this greaaaaat band who still gives us the opportunity to enjoy its music. They kicked asses, they're still kicking asses and they will kick asses! so long
Phil Bourgeois hell right🤘🏻
yeaaaah, but almost all of their peers aged waaaay better than Metallica
right
Yes dude. The respect is a very important thing nowadays that the majority of people are missing. We need to respect and enjoy this possibility of listening some great music from metallica again.
So because they're old we should accept any ol shit as great? Tell that to guys like Ian Hunter and Buddy Guy who actually write and create great music well into their '70s.
Up until now I've only ever heard this song as a cover song by The Warning.. Now i'm amazed at how well they did it as a 3 piece band. I think the only thing missing is the guitar harmonies.
I also knew this song thanks to The Warning. But it's good to listen to the original version, both performances are great !!!!!

Steven Lornie old school jazz drummers who are no longer with us are respected. but pushing the boundaries and leading the way is mangini. he can express anything on that kit. u old timer ;)
They should all grow out their grey beards... \m/
JasonWoodard what if James surprises us and goes back his long hair and mutton chops
and you sir, should grow a third ball.
Nah- Slayer did that and it looks ridiculous.
After 40 years of performing, many other bands lose it and suck, but Metallica keeps getting better!
This is not better it's worse. Anything after The Black Album sucks
Many other bands lose it and metallica is one of them. Did you heard anything before black album? Master of puppets, AJFA - that's their peak. After that they start to falling down deeper and deeper. Try Sodom or Exodus, they are REALLY saving their talant and playing better. The only thing metallica get better at is making money. Just commercial albums, again and again. Softer sound, simpler riffs...
I like that that have found a way to renew, but still find the "old" sound that we all came to love :)
When that being said, ive been with them all the way, and even though some of what they made was better then other ive allways found every album good in their own way
FUCK im speechless, the new album are GREAT......greetings from Germany
We Love u
Just N E R O

Ramses Bruy perez F that, just enjoy the shit out of there music now, and cross that bridge later...
Ramses Bruy perez Exacly what i feel
02:31-02:39 Escuchando asi a Metallica ahora jjjajaja
Got that Iron Maiden vibe to it.
I thought that too.
Yea! That part was literally like the phantom
Atlas, Rise! @4:45 compared to Iron Maiden's Hallowed be thy name, @ 2 :33. It's more or less the exact same riff. And that's just one example. Plus, the general sound of the guitars is just 1980s Maiden. But hey... that's not necessarily a bad thing. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, they say :D
Definitely, hear it too.
Hellas Perr. Geo James had in some part of the song a thin lizzy shirt, that pritty much explains it
Moth into flame still the best so far
One solo cannot make it better.....
totlay agree moth into flame own till now , maybe we need to hear this one a couple of times
troligtvisinte True, but this is good stuff too.
True, but both are not as good as The Four Horsemen in my opinion.......Arch Angel,Arise!!!!!! ( sorry X-Men Apocolypse Spoiler...)
troligtvisinte I love that song 2 :3
Too slow. Set it to 1.25 speed to hear it half way decent.
You're deaf fuck!
Haider Ali Listen to it on 1.25, you won't be able to listen to it at normal speed anymore, it's just fucking too slow.
Maybe because when play this song live sounds better
Well they might kinda do it like that live - they do this when playing Fuel for example.
Hahaha awesome man, the song was much better in 1.25 speed lol
I LOVE YOU BEAUTIFUL MR JAMES HETFIELD. I LOVE YOUR VOICE, SO POWERFUL AND STRONG. YOU ARE THE BEST.
I like when rob comes back in the room and starts head bangin.’ 3:23
Sir Loin Rob brought energy back to this band.
It's hypnotic, I'm head banging all the time while I'm listening this song!
Agreed. That’s probably the coolest part of an already excellent video. Just falls right in with the banging!
I bet it would be impossible not to headbang entering the room to that glorious riff!
hello iron maiden riff

Finally Metallica decided to give a shit. This album is sounding like their best album since the Black Album.
Whoops. Just got to Kirk's solo. Yikes. Oh, but James just came with a quick save! :D
exactly what I thought man..it sounds natural and decent. its been a long time since I heard Metallica actually sound like Metallica
yeah james saved the song. Thanks to Iron maiden. LOL
@murilo ninj Stop bitching and whining about kirk under every comment. Mediocre riff deserves only a mediocre solo

Which song of Iron maiden ?
hallowed be thy name?
Omg dystopia is so much better than this generic shit
The only good thing about Dystopia was Adler's drumming. The rest was the same generic garbage that Megadeth have been putting out since 2007.
MetalMilitia2012 dystopia sounds kinda boring now
+Arizona Coyotes poisonous shadows? Conquer or die? fatal illusion?
Dude, stop with this bullshit, Dystopia sucks, boring solos and shit
Minecraft Beast101 i agree with you. dystopia wmis an amazing album but im bored with it. it doesnt make me wanting to keep coming back... im back listening to good mourning black friday!

Damn, I gotta admit. I faded out of Metallica during the St. Anger days, but these guys have really brought back the heat.
I agree. St. Anger just didn't grab me. A few tracks on Death Magnetic are pretty good & I especially like Moth Into Flame from the forthcoming Album. Puppets, as an album, captured magic in a jar. The song itself is flawless. My Father thought he knew what a great guitarist was until we were on a long drive when and I popped in the song "Master Of Puppets". After the end of the elaborate bridge part where James goes back to sing the last verse, my Father goes "what...how? How do they have the energy to do that?" Puppets was fantastic. I believe Justice had some of the best guitar riffs I've ever heard, personally. I'm also a fan of the black album and I even like Load & Reload. Atlas, Rise seems to have an awkward main riff that I find odd. I like that they're going high & melodic for their choruses. I do sincerely wish Kirk would write his solos as opposed to "winging them". I've heard there's some health problems & that's expected. I want to hear Kirk play some slow, melodic solos.
Fuck yeah theyre back!!!!!
imagine Bruce Dickinson Singing this song...would love to hear maiden cover this...would be epic
totally, I was just thinking a couple parts of this song really remind me of aces high. Atlas rise even rhymes with it lol
Not Aces High. Hallowed Be Thy Name. The chorus of Atlas, Rise is totally a tribute to that song.
Gavin Isner I always think it has an Iron Maiden influence on their new album
I was just about to say that it sounds a lot like an Iron Maiden song :)
gymguy25 I've always liked Metallica im more of a maiden fan..but this new stuff i cant stop listening to...
Lyrical Genius James Hetfield
Die as you suffer in vain
Own all the grief and the pain
Die as you hold up the skies
Atlas, rise!
How does it feel on your own?
Bound by the world all alone
Crushed under heavy skies
Atlas, rise
Probably because it's about Atlas, the titan who was condemned to hold the skies for eternity. He just so happens to also appear in God Of War! (The second one)
and Chains of Olympus for PSP
Draky It's about Atlas in book called "Atlas shrugged" by Ayn Rand
Don't know about a book but Atlas is the titan from the Greek mythology. The story Hetfield describes is that exactly
L Arvind
Que hermoso el mate participando de un temazo JAJSJSJAJA mi país, mi país
