If you have never tried it, I would suggest giving the Vader skid a try, Logan. It gives both the benefit of a better break over and even more importantly the ability to use a full-size (or low profile) servo for the dig unit. With the larger servo, you can lock and unlock it under full load, and it works perfect.
After doing research the Vader skid was the most recommended so I installed one & love the flat bottom & I installed a Fusion Pro at the same time so I had no clearance issues with the Vader.
Great video. I’m probably going to get a Capra for my 1st rc car. This video is going to be super helpful, down the road. Other than the coil spring mod, what would be the 1st of these mods to make? I’m guessing, tires.
It's my first crawler, I think you'll love it. Only had it a couple weeks or so but have put fusion pro and jconcept ruptures. Just those 2 upgrades made it an entirely different crawler.
I have a home converted 4ws capra, with overdrive, homes hobby crawl master motor and 2.2 ali bead locks, with duratrax deepwoods, loveit. It's a very capable rock crawler. John. Watch your videos all the time. Great job Logan.
Great video. I’ve been thinking about putting a fusion pro in my Capra but I didn’t know how to make it fit, but you showed exactly how to do it. Thanks for the info.
You mentioned venting the tires but I didn't see you do it. How exactly is it done? Also, those wheels look like you can narrow the width using short hubs. Did those .350 hubs narrow it from stock? Capras are so wide and the gates seem to get narrow! I've got some carbon fiber wheels that appear to be similar but I haven't installed them yet. I wonder what hubs to get. Have you ever gone over setting up the end points on a GT5 radio? I'd like to see the whole process sometime. I don't think the servo I replaced is correct.
Nice simple upgrades I stripped my rear servo first day but still drove out. Replaced with a reefs 444. The stock esc is scary when crawling tall and risky climbs.
Man haha I learned the lessons in this video first hand about a month earlier cause I got a capra for Christmas. Smoked the motor first big crawl day caught in a bind, and then later the slipper clutch got me because the Vader skid moved up the trans enough to contact a wire keeper on the battery tray. But yeah agree 100% on fusion brushless!!
I bought my capra when the 4ws first came out and now i call it the Capra of Theseus, because i think everything except for the steering linkage and one of my rear axle shafts has been replaced, repaired or upgraded
The nitto Grappler tires work well if you cut the inserts in a star pattern.Because they are ribbed on the inside. They are my favorite creek tires after they break in.
Fine if you want to spend zero dollars on tires/ foams. But it’s not 2007 anymore, there are far better insert and tire options. Star cut foams don’t offer near enough sidewall support, and like Logan said the compound of the trail grapplers just isn’t near as soft and grippy as other options on the market.
always wanted a CAPRA but the prices have gone Crazy now over 500+ for a rc car.. I know I paid 600 for my LMT but don't know if I'll ever spend that amount again? great vid bud🎉👍💯
Hi there. So imperative, I have learn so much. I recently upgraded my Carpra similar to your in the video. All went, however after 2 crawl sessions, in 1:45 min and second ru the week after crawling for 1:00 it died, just figured it l the ESC or motor burnt ou. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!
I'm new to the hobby and I just bought this rig . Did you do the same to the rears? Knuckles and portal covers? As you did with the fronts in this video
Great video, I'm really looking forward to trying some of your ideas! Out of curiosity, what is the benefit of the Cut'n'Shut method over using stock 2.2 tires? Do the tires you want to use not come in 2.2 size?
I really like your build! The information you give is great. I'm having a problem with mine after the last ride. When i let off my throttle my Capra will continue to move forward, not at a fast speed but it does keep moving. Help
Curious what channel you run your winch on. I use the same flysky setup that you do. I recently changed my winch from channel 4 to channel 5 knob. And I love it so far. Variable speed and power is so handy
You should try the treal transmission case. It allows you to move the idler gear, 2 positions, to use a smaller pinion I think like a 9 tooth with a quick run fusion
I would really appreciate a second video on further upgrades..I know you have made some before but I’m curious how they adapt to the 4ws model like vanquish transmission, dig , metal axles, etc.? Also I’ve heard you mention longer links Traxxas ones I believe which ones are they exactly?
Been waiting for an episode addressing 4ws model I’m not sure if you are first ever to make a Capra 4ws but you sure are one who made it famous hope axial gives you credit you deserve.
Man I probably learned more form this video on Capra’s then any other I just did a full upgrade to my 4wheel steer Capra I used a Vader skid & Injora high clearance links/ wheel extender because I’m now running 2.2’s I also have 90mm Lizard Pro shocks those 2 strong Reefs servos you installed how did you set them up with a bec direct power? I know drawing that much power it’ll cause a brown out. I’m running 2.2 Proline Trenchers but I’m looking to get your cut n shuts soon. Thanks for al the useful info.
I have owned the Capra 4ws since it came out and I just burned my motor 🤣 gonna be upgrading to the fusion pro. Thanks for the great info and the installation process! Do you have a video explaining the binding process with this set up?
2.2’s look so goofy in my opinion on 1/10 scale cars. I really much prefer the closer to scale look of 1.9 wheels and tires. Also instead of hacking your link mounts just go for a Holmes hobbies revolver. Ridiculous amount of torque and as far as sensorless brushless goes, the start up is ridiculously smooth. It will crawl slower than you need to even with the over geared Capra trans.
Hi bro man! Have a question with the hobbywing fusion se and 3s lipo with stock trans and 12 t pinion will they hobbywing stay cool? I'm running am32 and it's getting to hot thinking about putting fusion in instead of switching to 3 gear trans for the am32. Not sure
No flat skid or long rod ends/links? There is an .stl file on thingiverse for spring cups that retain the spring but at a lower position like removing the cup.
I’m a huge fan and just bought my first Capra. I have 2 questions please. First is could you get me a link to the thumb steer attachment on your gt5. And when I install my fusion, which came today, where do the lights plug in now?
Does anyone know if the twisty knobs(channel 5 and 6 I think) on the fly sky can be used for dig? I need the button for lights and I’m assuming the 3 position switch for my wench
@@westdesertwheeler Do you use a BEC. Can you do a video how to do it. Also I use the mini servo for the front dig, do the BEC will burn it ? thank you for you very good videos and you are hell of a good driver in RC and real Moon Buggy's .
Tbh the capra unfortunately feels like youre paying $500+ for a pair of axles. Maybe you really like the cage but outside of that and the axles the rest of the car can basically go in the trash.
If you have never tried it, I would suggest giving the Vader skid a try, Logan. One of the best mods a capra can have is the vader skid!
The problem with the Vader is the lower links protrude below the skid, they hang up and wear out as well.
This is good to know I had given up on the Capra dig. The CJ7 needs help also
Great video. I’m probably going to get a Capra for my 1st rc car. This video is going to be super helpful, down the road. Other than the coil spring mod, what would be the 1st of these mods to make? I’m guessing, tires.
Great video Logan, I've yet to have a rear steer Capra, and this might push me over the edge to finally order one. Great setup!
It's my first crawler, I think you'll love it. Only had it a couple weeks or so but have put fusion pro and jconcept ruptures. Just those 2 upgrades made it an entirely different crawler.
You're the first to clearly mention that out-of-the-box, it's geared more for slow trail speed rather than rock creeping. Thanks for that.
I want pick up a Capra next week, and I have watched video's on different channels already, but this is by far the best upgrade video I have seen! 👍
Did you ever pick it up?
I have a home converted 4ws capra, with overdrive, homes hobby crawl master motor and 2.2 ali bead locks, with duratrax deepwoods, loveit. It's a very capable rock crawler. John. Watch your videos all the time. Great job Logan.
Excellent tutorial Logan! Thanks so much for sharing your experience and knowledge on these set ups!!! Keep them coming!!!

Great video! With all of the built rig content you put out. This is great for anyone new to the hobby or new to Capra rigs!
Man haha I learned the lessons in this video first hand about a month earlier cause I got a capra for Christmas. Thanks Logan for the information and the reasons why you put those parts in. Much appreciated sir and keep the build/mod videos coming
I really like your wheel tire combo. Your cut n shuts just give it a good look.
Great details and information logan! I really enjoy these types of videos!! Keep it up man 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I bought my capra when the 4ws first came out and now i call it the Capra of Theseus, because i think everything except for the steering linkage and one of my rear axle shafts has been replaced, repaired or upgraded
This has to be the most helpful build-guide video for the Capra. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Now I gotta go spend more money :P

I’m trying to figure out what the benefits are for using cut and shut tires thanks for the tutorial 👏

The red Capra is on sale $100.00…off regular price until November 21…
Amazing mods cool build. I can't wait to see it on trail. Stay safe

Damn, I bought a Capra because of you, now I’m wanting to revive it with that motor and free shock upgrade 😬
Have you ever sold a full crawler already completed with all of your mods you like?
I'm new to the hobby and I just bought this rig . Did you do the same to the rears? Knuckles and portal covers? As you did with the fronts in this video
Can you put in the description what kind of transmission I should put in as an upgrade?

I just bought a Capra 4ws your video was very helpful thank you 😊
Loving the video! Please keep these coming. Maybe even do an install with a set of those new axial axles on a non axial rig.
Need more scx6 videos man 🔥🔥
Excellent video Logan. What is your opinion on using the purple springs?
Curious what channel you run your winch on. I use the same flysky setup that you do. I recently changed my winch from channel 4 to channel 5 knob. And I love it so far. Variable speed and power is so handy

Thanks. What about a transmission upgrade?
Definitely the next two things on the list is flat skid and transmission
Fantastic video, I’m inspired to get one and start modding asap, thanks for such a clear tutorial 👍👍👍
Hi, what servo centering devise do you recommend?
Thank you!
I would really appreciate a second video on further upgrades..I know you have made some before but I’m curious how they adapt to the 4ws model like vanquish transmission, dig , metal axles, etc.? Also I’ve heard you mention longer links Traxxas ones I believe which ones are they exactly?

Which Servo horn did you use?
do you have a link for it as well?
Protek RC 4800mah LiHV 3s lipo fits capra battery tray perfectly without stretching the plastic
Way to big for what we like!
Overpriced also
2 BECs? Or just one?
that's the best ever i just bought me one
I have owned the Capra 4ws since it came out and I just burned my motor 🤣 gonna be upgrading to the fusion pro. Thanks for the great info and the installation process! Do you have a video explaining the binding process with this set up?
No need to bind just because of a new motor
@@westdesertwheeler I just figured since you got the new receiver too, that it would require binding
Do you run the winch with the other potentiometer dial?
I run it on channel 4 a 3 position switch. In - neutral - out
Hi awesome video, what length of deez bands do you recommend for this rig?
Thank you!.!

Servo horn length for the reefs??

No flat skid or long rod ends/links? There is an .stl file on thingiverse for spring cups that retain the spring but at a lower position like removing the cup.
Thingiverse also has a file for hood pins that don't require a body clip, they're great.
Wish i could send u pic of my CAPRA . A lot of it is because of you and your videos. Oh and of course sidney..... Dan
Yeah, love Sidney!
I’m a huge fan and just bought my first Capra. I have 2 questions please. First is could you get me a link to the thumb steer attachment on your gt5. And when I install my fusion, which came today, where do the lights plug in now?
You will need a new receiver with the fusion and plug the lights into that
My thumb steer was given to me by a friend
How do you control the lights with a 4 channel receiver with rear steer and s winch?
There is no light controller
Those wheels look absolutely amazing Logan! Who sells this brand?
Are those wheels 1.9 or 2.2?
Does anyone know if the twisty knobs(channel 5 and 6 I think) on the fly sky can be used for dig? I need the button for lights and I’m assuming the 3 position switch for my wench
It's actually pretty funny! I have more capra trans, axles, etc than anything else. But I've never owned the first one🤣🤣🤣
Those wheels are awesome!
And I use a pencil file to knock the burs off the shafts from where the pins wear.
And how do you get the wheels? They all say out of stock? Or do you have to order them and they make them? I'm pretty interested in a set
All great mods next step strerch flat skid and replace the shocks then you maxed out her potential but you know all this 😉
Always enjoy these videos, keep up the great work! I like seeing someonr else"s approach on how to upgrade a vehicle. 👍
I’m currently in middle of my build but I’m using a vanguish 3 gear with dig. I planned on using a 12 tooth pinion. What’s ur suggestion
14T will be more than enough with a 3 gear. It will be slow
Have you checked out the treal transmission? let's you run a 9t pinion.
I wouldn’t put any money into upgrading the stock transmission
Parts diagram I am looking at says the stock pinion is AX30569 which is a 48 pitch 14T. Your saying a 11T 32P AXI30722 will work?
Yes 11T bolts right up. Doesn’t have to be an axial part either. Many brands of pinions available make sure it’s a 32P
What 3s batteries are you using?
14:04 should have just done a flat skid also. spare time hobbies has one that $25.
Need set of those rims
Nice I'm glad for the video I'm a new comer. This real helps us newbies. Im going to copy this build.
Hi, what voltage do you use for your big Reef servo ?
They can handle up to 8.4
@@westdesertwheeler Do you use a BEC. Can you do a video how to do it. Also I use the mini servo for the front dig, do the BEC will burn it ? thank you for you very good videos and you are hell of a good driver in RC and real Moon Buggy's .
Nice video good one thank you Logan.....
This video came at the best time lol 👍
How long are the stock shocks
I could be wrong but I think Capra stock shock are 97mm
80mm
Definitely not 80mm for the stock shock
They are 96mm shocks stock.
Amazing video like always Logan good job buddy
Ive had my capra for 4 years now still with stock portal gears!!!
Swapped with sum moose knuckles!!!???
😂😂😂
Awesome ❤
Awesome!!
