    I own the newer version/model of the saw you had. I have had zero issues with it and have cut a bunch of mild steel using a single blade. It has saved me money vs the fiber blades and the cut quality is 100 times better. I do believe the vise on my model is better than the one on yours. It locks the material down tight. I spoke with Evolution directly before purchasing my saw and they were very helpfully. Not only did they answer my question, but they also provided clear instructions on how to use the saw. The following are few things I learned from them. 1. The blade needs to match the thickness range and type of the material being cut. 2. The blade should be in contact with the least amount of material as possible, which is also true for a band saw. 3. The position of were the blade touches the material. Not sure if your saw allowed you to move the fence forward or backwards, but the model I have does. So based on the size and shape of the material, I move the fence to ensure the blade makes proper contact with the material. 4. Avoid trim cuts as much as possible, the owner's manual gives a minimum length of material that should be beyond the saw blade on the opposite side of the vise. I typical have at least 1/2" material past the edge of the frame. I'm not paid by Evolution nor was I given any discounts/freebees for the saw or blades I have. I would highly recommend reaching out to Evolution, they actually answer the phone and have real knowledge/technical support for their products. Sorry for the bad experience with your saw.

    Mitch glad you didn’t get hurt. We all try to save a buck but since you say you want to make repetitive cuts I might suggest a Freud brand blade, yes you’re gonna spend more but I feel it was last a lot longer for you. Regardless of what blade you get if you’re holding device won’t hold material firm regardless of what type blade you install you’ll have the same problem. Be safe 👍TCT

    With angle clamped in that manner the stock pulling loose in the saw will happen. This would have happened even with a band saw. A better way to grab the angle would be with one leg flat against the non moving jaw and the other laying on the bottom of the vice. This is really not the saw's fault. You effectively were trying to clamp a spring, and when the teeth touched the center high point of the angle it compressed the side near the movable jaw and also pulled up on the side by the moving jaw. Because the angle was already at its widest point when pivoting about the part touching the stationary jaw the stock essentially became smaller in the jaws and there was no more force to hold the stock in place.
    I have done exactly what you show many times, and usually got this result as a reminder not to do that again. I have found it helpful to think of a way to put stock in the vice so that the blade is trying to force it into the vice more, rather than pull it out. Round stock is also a hard one to deal with.
    I enjoy your videos and hope to see more! Not trying to be a troll just sharing my own learning experiences from messing up stock / blades / cutters.

    • @MJADoingStuff
      @MJADoingStuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand what you are saying I normally don’t clamp angle like this but from what I have seen and reading some of the directions it sounds like the saw is not made to cut flat bar clamped flat so I went against what I normally do and put it in the vise like that. Maybe I could have put it vertical in the clamp. Thanks for pointing that out I appreciate you explaining what you mean. Have a great weekend 😁👍🚜💨🍳

    I have had that exact thing happen, but somehow the teeth survived! Close call.
    I use the upside-down "V" to cut angle in the band saw all the time. But the band saw clamp is rock solid. I have the EVO cross-slide miter saw, and when cutting angle in that, I clamp the piece in "L" position, cut the vertical of the "L" first, then push through the horizontal to finish the cut. Flats should be cut clamped in the vertical position, as well, per their instructions....but those are the instructions for the miter saw.
    Note: the miter saw is very nice when making square or rectangular frames using angle steel, the 45° corners look great.
    I feel your pain, the blades are expensive!
    Better luck next time!!

    The orange blade has something very distinctive as it got some kind of rakers for depth of cut, thus avoid grabbing the material hard. I don't have ANY experience with such saw and blade, just based on observations. I once was on the edge of purchasing this saw and the cost of the blades turned me down. Not even knowing this could change suddenly the cost of usage! To this day, I still use the fixed bandsaw and very satisfied of it. Just need to plan ahead the cuts, as it takes some time. If I am thinking It's way too long, then I remember my planning was not right either... Thanks!

      @@MJADoingStuff I currently have a model similar to the Grizzly G0926. I should have paid double to get the swivel model like the Grizzly G9742. Two main benefits for that, it has the cylinder to set the speed at which the head goes down. Good in small thin metals, like the angle iron you had to cut. Then the swivel is obviously great too!. You still can cut the angle with the base model, but you have to set both sides of the anvil to the right angle. And for long stock, move either the saw itself or the supports for it. We have the same models here in Canada, sold as King Canada. By looking at the casting of the frame, they probably come from the same factory in China! Thanks!

    I have used cold cut saws regularly since 1995. It isn't uncommon to grab thinner metal and do what happened to you. You want to use finer tooth blades for thinner metal to have a proper amount of tooth contact with piece being cut. Cold cut saws that I have used are much heavier duty and aren't exactly like your saw but same rules would apply.
