- The popular restaurant chain Red Lobster is in the red, and could soon file for bankruptcy protection.
On Monday, the Florida-based company shuttered dozens of its locations, including here in San Diego.
The Red Lobster in Mira Mesa is one of up to 120 location closures throughout the nation. A restaurant supply liquidator plans to auction off their kitchen equipment.
While there are still a couple of other Red Lobsters here in San Diego County still open. What their future holds is uncertain.

I’m sure the lobsters 🦞 happy af!
The one by Grossmont Center is boarded up with windows smashed in. 😨
Good 👍 call.....scene that yesterday....windows smashed, plants 🪴 growing like jungle.....
Another casualty of private equity. They'd still be in business if they never were bought out in 2014.
_Golden Gate, which bought the chain for $2.1 billion in 2014. At that time, virtually all of the real estate under Red Lobster restaurants was owned by the chain, which has no franchisees._
_Golden Gate, a private-equity firm, then sold the real estate for $1.6 billion to American Realty Capital Partners, which changed its name and reformed as Vereit this July. The properties were leased back to Golden Gate._
They did fine under a lot other Presidents. So, your theory is full of holss
You are so right on this. Such a common occurrence and yet the media never reports this. One might imagine that it won't fit in their 90 second news segment on this.
Red Lobster is closing, how is Chucky Cheese still open????
If they were popular, they wouldn't be in the red....
Make sure they close it up because the one in la mesa the homeless destroyed the fence and broke the windows. You can’t keep them out.
La Mesa slowly 🐌....turning into a scene from the Purge....Fletcher Parkway , next to what was Soup Plantation...abandon for over 10 years...😮💨
I emailed the mayor in la mesa no reply he doesn’t care. It’s sad people can destroy property and not be accountable
@alexeinorris9537 doing the same, it looks like a scene from the Purge.....you can see it from the bottom street 😳. Further more traveling up the street towards Jersey Mike's, the Median has cracked curbing with exposed rebar....😮💨...an E Mail to the Mayor with CC; La Mesa Public Works and I believe they have a City Council.....they only address problems if they are embarrassed, local government is non proactive, that's why Channel 8 has " investigations"..... get enough heat 🥵 to start a fire 🔥......El Cajon is turning into what La Mesa used to be.....
Red Lobster has been in the “red” for a long time. Many food chain companies just lease properties & when their lease expires…. It expires.
Red Lobster owned all their real estate until...private equity swooped in and sold their locations.
The reporter says that one of the problems could be the all you can eat shrimp which he makes it sound like started last year. I have not been to a Red lobster in years and even then they had the all you can eat shrimp. We can blame the economy because food has had the highest inflation rate of all the things affected by inflation and the fact that covid shut down the businesses for over a year. I would guess there are many hundreds of businesses that are on the edge of going bankrupt because of the government policies. One of the people interviewed blamed the Thai company for not being very good at investment when it is likely that they could see the writing on the wall and there was no way to recoup the losses with the current government. The government must be included in the equation.
The La Mesa location already closed. I grew up in Mira Mesa in the 1980's and remember when the location there opened.
😊 remember Pheralls.....late 70s
Reb lobster in LA mesa?

The only red lobster I know is the one in point loma

Same here I grew up in MM in the 90s that place, Tio Leos, and El Torrito was bussin!
Inflation is making restaurants bite the dust. Only thing transitory about this inflation are businesses leaving the marketplace. Spend trillions more … let’s see what else can break. 😂
Younger people don't like dinning at big food chains. Those young gens are dinning at popping up restaurant they see in IG. Im grew up going to watch these types of food chain restaurant on TV. Just in the past 10 years I have been on the social media watch food blogger. I live in Mira Mesa and there so many restaurant are doing very well with 1 to 2 hours waiting list. its just time have change.
Private equity as noted above is mostly to blame in this case and many others. They always use "inflation", or the "pandemic", or "9/11" or something else to assign blame. Asset strippers come in, strip the best parts of the company, load it up with debt then take the money and run. This leaves the stripped company holding the bag. This practice should be outlawed.
Noooooooooooooo. My coconut shrimp and cheddar bay biscuits!!!!
I love their coconut shrimp but alas no more, funny thing is just got an email a day the other day for RL what gives?
Cook it at home
@@Roquea.207 sorry, but not the same.

Two adorable ladies! Sorry about the restaurant chain.
The one in La mesa has been closed for a year now. Keep up People, this company has been in the red for years now.
*That man ate all our shrimp, and three plastic lobsters!*
Subway closed a bunch of locations too. Good job $20 min wage!
Subway makes subpar garbage food, bur sure higher wages is killing their business and not competitors like Jersey Mike’s or Firehouse subs making better sandwhiches.
@@user-cw3wm9lx7w all of that is overpriced garbage food
Restaurants don’t pay 20$ smart one
They literally attributed their losses to coupons and special deals its broke peoples fault
@@mrmakeembreakitdown I can tell you’re broke. where do you live? Restaurants around here pay $20 an hour, these aren’t restaurant workers they are fast food employees. Like you probably are.

Joe Bidens America 🇺🇸
GOP Private Equity America. The company had $1.6 billion in real estate assets that the private equity sold off in the 2014. Instead of owning $1.6 billion in assets, they had to start paying rent.
