Thanks for watching! I usually post videos about restoring old stereos. If that sounds interesting to you check out some of my other videos: www.youtube.com/@MattDealy/videos
It definitely was a scam. I have seen the same picture of those klipsch speakers with the word SCAM! here in Louisville KY. that someone had posted on Craigslist. It sounds like the same guy. Glad you got your money back.
Ahhh nice! This was just so weird how friendly he was. I have no clue what his endgame was supposed to be. Most scammers dip out as soon as you say payment protection. Thank you!

@@JonPaul Interesting, I was wondering if that might've been the case. This fellow sounded younger, maybe early 30's at the oldest but it's hard to say with just a voice.
I don't trust those pay apps only cash Have found some great deals. The best was NAD 2200 with matching preamp tuner with Polk SDA 1s for $650 a few years ago. The guy got the equipment for free doing a remodel and his wife set the price because she wanted the system gone cause it was too loud. Picked up some Klipsch kg 5.5s for $200 and some Klipsch 5.2s with genuine wood vener for $175 they were scruffy looking till they were polished then looked fantastic. Those were my great deals. Was very skeptical of the NAD deal but it was legit. The Klipsch speakers at that time Horn loaded speakers hadn't had there resurgence. Amazing stuff out there have to trust your gut.Glad you didn't get scammed.
Fair enough! Man that's a great deals on the NAD and Polks! I had a pair of SDA 1's and really loved them. Would love to get another pair someday...Those are some of the more underrated Klipsch speakers I feel, you got a great deal on both pairs! Thanks for watching ❤️
@@Shuksanaudioyeah luckily i thought about it for awhile i was looking it up & found the same post you did about it being a scam. you know the old saying if it's too good to be true it probably is.
@@Shuksanaudio yes it's very tempting I guess that's why I messaged him and was thinking about doing it. I don't know how people can live with doing something like that to others.
Never buy any vintage equipment unless you see it in person, look it over for damage, check it/play it thoroughly to see if everything is working properly - if you are then satisfied with it, you can then proceed to puchase; after becoming the owner, you are still dealing with the risks of a half-century old piece of equipment where any part of the component can potentially fail, at any time.
This is great advice! I have gear testing checklist when I go to buy things because you never know what issue might surface. Although, if it's a good deal, I often don't care about minor issues since I know how to fix them and usually plan to fully restore a piece if I'm buying it. Thanks for watching!
You say that, but I got some Forte 2's, a Yamaha matching reveicer, 6 cd Changer, and a cassete player all for $100. Sometimes people just want to get rid of stuff. However this is at an estate sale, not online, so I would've been cautious too.
A shame that even in this niche hobby there’s so many scams out there. I’ve gotten scammed in many different ways in my lifetime, but sometimes the real good deals make up for it.
This is a great tip that I forgot to mention. I did use image search and none of the images showed up for this particular listing which seemed to add credibility but they're probably from an old eBay listing and no longer online. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely! I've seen people in the hobby offer good deals to move things fast but this price was very low, especially for the condition of the Marantz. Thanks for watching!
Buy new! You'll get a warranty and in some cases, you can return. Too many scammers out there. Besides, it should be more about the quality of music than the equipment.
Man I wish I could buy this vintage gear new. I agree! My livingroom setup is very simple and lets me enjoy the music. I do love tinkering with and repairing the gear and the vintage stuff adds to the aesthetic of the room but it really is all about the music! Thanks for watching!
I have already restored my vintage stuff once. I have found better deals and sound just using newer stuff. I'm over analog pots and speakers with foam surrounds. Got two lifespans worth of use from them and it's time to relegate it to conversation pieces and an occasional trip down memory lane. I won't be helping to overvalue this stuff for the scalpers, hoarders and collectors. I would not even let them give it to me for free.
Its not overvalued. If you look at inflation rates most used Marantz for sale are MUCH cheaper than they were new and to buy a comparable newer one with that kind of quality is insane. Try finding new receiver that competes with a Marantz 2275. I just restored one for a buddy and used ones go for around 1500-2000$. A new, comparable receiver would be 3-4k.
I also changed their crossover to eliminate the circuit board. These crites crossovers are a joke. They used cheap Chinese metal film caps instead of the original mylar caps. The only cap that can go bad is the one electrolytic in the woofer circuit
