    Always good to see a review of an experienced bushcrafter's pack loadout.
    Lots of emphasis on shelter.
    Much appreciated.

    Remarkably I’ve done decades of dirt time and have the exact same kit, but not the same brands. I use a truck windshield foil sun reflector shade for my diy hammock. My military poncho is my tarp over the hammock. I bring either a Cold Steel Kukri machete, or a folding saw and mora. I do have some hand made knives as well and am starting to use the Cold Steel shovel more. IAWOODSMAN channel has a good vid on the shovel. Been using my woobie, with a zipper for my head to pass through, and now with SOL large mylar reflective blanket for $7 pinned to the woobie. These couple with the poncho are a multipurpose kit. Good vid.

    I have the early version of the German Mountain pack with leather straps and steel buckles, plus I managed to get the folding German kip mat that goes in that rear pocket, its an excellent pack and surprising just how much it will hold.

    Hey Blackie, do you think you could do a video on machetes? You know, what they are good for, what they're not good for, and their place in bushcraft.
    Thanks for all the videos, you are what got me into bushcraft.

    Dear Blackie,
    I am a big fan of your videos and have learned alot from them. I do have a question about your pack system. Where do you carry your haversack when you are also carrying your base camp big bag? Thanks for the info.

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if i plan on dropping my base pack and exploring a area and then move on..i wear it under the base pack..if i am going to form a base camp it ride in top of base pack till i get to camp

  • @fpark114

  • @couchcamperTM

    the term snow won't bring you any further, cause it was meant to offer protection from wet ground, snowy or not… German soldiers know it as Elefantenhaut (elephants skin) If I was you, I would rather get a grabber/space brand all weather blanket, it offers the same, plus reflective aluminum on one side and grommets on all 4 corners for using at as a tarp. there are also models with a hood.

    The folding sleeping mats may be obtainable from www.varusteleka.com (a disposals outlet in Finland, but they deliver worldwide). Postage is pretty horrendous, but they charge a fixed charge, no matter what you buy, so if there are other things that appeal to you it won't cost any more for delivery, so it may defray your overall costs.
