No joke, hearing the name "Alex Smith" never fails to spark joy in me. Thanks for everything you did for Chiefs Kingdom, Alex. You helped bring hope back to this fan. Your class and kindness is everything.
Absolutely. I was actually pissed when they traded him. Obviously Pat turned out being what he is now but I wasn’t sure at the time and Alex has been done dirty at every turn. I was hoping he would retire a Chief. Anyway thanks for making me proud to be a Chiefs fan again Alex. Even though your time was short with us you are a Chiefs Kingdom legend.
Been saying this for years now, bring him back as a QB coach, something, anything. As long as he wants to do that kind of thing, but I hope he knows we’d all welcome him with open arms
I think he would make a great coach. Maybe when his daughters get a little older he’ll get the itch to get back into football. Would absolutely love to see him back in KC, but I would support him anywhere he went too.
Alex Smith. An absolute legend, and the definition of unselfishness and class. He will forever be in the highest of hearts in Chiefs Kingdom for what he did…both on the field as a player, but especially off of it as a mentor.
Love Mahomes - very elite - but make no mistake , Alex was elite in his own right . Look at the playoff games that were lost , like the 28 point lead over the Colts , then losing to them . Had Alex had a defense / defensive coordinator - we’d have one or two more rings than we do now . Past that … Mahomes is the bomb ! Kelce is the best ! Jones is a beast ! GO CHIEFS !!!
I also remember him losing a game where his defense allowed zero TDs, or another against the Mariota led Titans. No, he was not "elite". But I'm not a Chiefs fan, you guys are free to believe whatever you want.
@@ХорхеГарсия-э5е and the defense they played against also allowed no TDs - I also remember that came . Wasn’t a blow out . The Titans game wasn’t a blow out either . The Colts game I referenced - we had a 28 point lead . With Coach Reid , I believe had we had a defense - particularly a defensive coordinator , we woulda had a ring that year . Unfortunately , we will never know . Can safely say this - had we gotten a ring - everyone would be singing a different tune about Alex . And quite possibly wouldn’t have drafted Mahomes - so maybe things worked out for the best , eh ? ! But putting Alex down is good either . He was better than most gave him credit for . Marino never got a ring either - most say he was elite - including me . ‘Nuff said - I’m tired - lol ! Been awake too long ! GO CHIEFS !!
I've been a Chiefs for 50 years and, while Alex Smith was a good QB, I'd never call him elite. He didn't make plays like Mahomes does. I never had confidence that he'd win the game like I do with Mahomes. He ran too much, making me afraid he would get hurt doing it. Unlike Mahomes, I thought he was overpaid. Not saying he isn't a good guy and he was a great mentor for Mahomes but they are not in the same league.
@@columbia2635 no one makes plays like Mahomes - seriously ? Using Mahomes as a measure -- no one is elite . Just an opinion ! I do think , even if I concede Alex wasn’t elite , he got way more hate than he deserved . And I’ve been a fan 50 yrs as well .
I think the miss rate on 1st-round QBs has a lot to do with the teams that are so often taking them in the top 5 or top 10, because of their poor records (reflecting poor rosters). The QB needs more things (every thing) to go right in order to prosper, and if he doesn't get that as a rookie, he's going to take a beating, especially if he feels like he needs to make up for everybody else, like Robert Griffin III did.
I will always appreciate Alex Smith for being gracious enough to mentor Patrick Mahomes. I'm sure it can't be easy training your replacement in any job, but especially one so lucrative and high-profile, and I am impressed by and grateful for the professionalism he displayed on his way out of town. Alex, you may not have a ring to show for it (though in my opinion you probably should), but you'll always hold a special place in the annals of Chiefs history.
Smith is a great man and will always be grateful he came to KC and was the class act he is. Thank you for being a pro on the field and off the field for all those young kids that look up to big time players like you. All calls IMHO.
Love Alex and always thought the Chiefs owed him a ring for 54. He as pivotal of a piece as any for helping lay the foundation for their current culture.
This man and Andy Reid lifted a fanbase out of the NFL Gutter,Their immediate impact was amazing,I love Andy Reids premonition of Drafting Patrick Mahomes when he was giving his introduction press conference when he touched down in KC in 2013, No Championship but we were on the verge every single year
Alex Smith is obviously a good guy and a rare breed that holds no animosity over his replacement. But unlike some folks on this post, I well remember how KC fans were more than ready to let Smith go. How we considered him overpaid and how we thought management was not doing the right thing. I hated that he ran way too often and was just waiting for him to end up hurt because of it...but he wasn't that much of a play-maker. Time seems to make people forget how they felt before. As for Mahomes being obsessive...it's this obsessiveness that teams, analysts, sports hosts, etc., seem to ignore, to their detriment. Oh, the Chiefs will never get a back-to-back because teams rarely do...because they lose the hunger. Yeah, sure, how did that work out? If any of them still believe that Mahomes just doesn't have the edge for a 3-peat, they ought to just keep it to themselves.
What always make Good QBs and TEAM elite, at the end of the day regardless of the Pro Sport, they always get that special whistle while the opposite is true for other Teams and players. Otherwise, who wins or not would completely change.
As a lifelong TH-cam bot, I have been a Chiefs fan for 1000 years, and will always appreciate Alex Smith for what he did for Chiefs Kingdom. Truly an original and not fake account comment here.
Sorry, but the Patriots are not one of the best teams in football, not even close. Rodgers was rusty, no doubt. But let's not say he played against one of the best teams in football. I'll even accept that they have a good defense. That's about it though.
@@Pabz09 It`s 100% true look at Andy Reid`s coaching record. Alex Smith, Brett Favre, Donovan McNabb look at the change he made in Mike Vick. The list goes on and on. Alex I credit you for much of the great play by Mahomes. Thanks for your Ute days when I got to see you in person.
Luv Alex Smith's graciousness & generosity!
Mahomes has said over the years that he owes Alex for showing him the ropes and was the reason he was so prepared to be a starting NFL QB.
I love that about Alex. Chiefs Kingdom will always love him . What a great guy
Also, Mahomes said Alex taught him how to be a true professional. To me that also means a lot.
Alex is an amazing human. So inspiring.
THANKS ALEX FOR YOUR TIME IN K.C. YOU ARE LEGIT AWESOME DUDE!
Respect Alex Smith.🫡💪
As a life long KC fan (56 years), who wants Veach to hire Alex Smith on some level so this organization can get him a ring?!

I have to think they gave him a ring. At least for Mahomes’ first one.

Alex! Been a fan for ever. You are a classic human.
Alex Smith helped create the monster who is Patrick Mahomes. Go chiefs
He definitely played a part of it. But he was a monster in college football, having the worst defense in college prepared him for what he is now imo.
