    Nice estate sale pick up! I went to an estate sale a few weeks ago looking for the same thing...computer anything. What a disappointment lmao. All I encountered was a celeron Dell and what looked like a 1024x768 lcd. You know how much I hate Apple for what they do. Apple down right plans their obsolescence. I've come across iMacs that Apple said you can't upgrade anymore, but there are tools out there to put a newer Mac OS on them, and they work great to the point where even a new Mac OS recognized the old hardware. 🖕Apple. It's pretty nasty how people neglect the insides of their PCs. I hate finding dead roaches in them! Hard drive immanent! HAHAHA! RIP lil buddy.
    That Compaq with the inverted MB is similar to the Lian Li V1000 when they started experimenting with the CPU positioned down there, but they probably gave up with that idea due to the amount of heat coming out of the CPU and towards the GPU. Then again, some could argue the heat from the GPU rises up to the CPU with our current configuration. That Compaq laptop was screaming late 90s! I looked it up and, sure enough, it's 98-2000. The Ashton Digital makes me wonder if it was part of DEC - Digital Equipment Corporation. Sad story with that company, too. They were leaders for decades. Did you notice the little black square under the USB ports? That looked like an infrared sensor. I vaguely remember being able to buy IR remotes for presentations.
    Anyways, great haul! You know these are always fun. I can't imagine how this affects your storage space lol, but keep em coming!

      Hey there! Yeah this iMac was more difficult to work on. Spoiler alert.. Also opencore install of Ventura would get 75% then reboot and thus fail. Same with another os.. well that's a tale for another video.. Omg roaches eww lol. I had an all alliminum Lian li case. It was nice but I made a build out of spare parts and gave it to my brother. Rip lian li case.. I think the Ashton digital was a knock off of Dec or something. Tryjng to find a cd/DVD rom drive for this unit is near impossible... Thos 2 dells were decent. Swapped out the gold cpu for a spare i54670 and a 120 ssd and bam back in business! As for my storage space I need to make videos faster so I can Ditch some of these pcs arghhh so many.. thanks again!

    Hello Jason, that was great value for your money and there are several potential videos there too!👍👍
    PS., LMDE 6 is offered in both 64 bit and 32 bit and I have the 32 bit version installed on two old Dell laptops and they work well enough.

    • @RememberThisTech

      Hey Laurence! ty! I actually have LMDE 6 and was going to try it on something, Perhaps the Compaq tower might be a good candidate?

      @@RememberThisTech Hello Jason, that sounds like a plan and currently LMDE 6 is only offered with the Cinnamon desktop but that may change through time, the installation is a little different to the other LM., distros, but it's still mostly familiar.
      I have installed Sparky Linux 7 the Mate version on a spare PC and tested it and it's okay.
      I have an HP 8200 USDT PC., in storage, it did work but it was flaky, so I checked it out today and I found the reason, the socket for the CPU., is badly damaged, so that's another one for the parts pile.

      @laurencejohnson4106 Maybe put in a small cheap ssd and LMDE 6. Might run fast!

¡Veremos!

    You should give windows ME another chance. It's very stable if you install all of the updates. It would run great on that compaq laptop.

    • @RememberThisTech

      Hey there!I've been meaning to revisit ME so it's cool you mention it. The compaq laptop would be great for it. But the cd-rom drive needs fixing first :( I'll probably have to tear it down, clean it, and thermal paste it, etc. Stay tuned!!

      @@RememberThisTech ME is just 98 with allot more updates. I never understood the hatred for ME when it was the most mature 9X OS. When it was released. Win2K was already my daily driver.

      @mojavedxer hi there. Well, for me personally, it crashed all the time. The stability wasn't there. Now, I was an early adopter, so perhaps it wasn't mature and lacked patches at that time. So that was I used win 2k. 2k wasn't great for my gaming though.

    I thought you could remove the mobile athlons? Is it not a socket 462? It looks like it, but I dunno. i've never personally owned a laptop with that socket in it. If it comes out, you could probably get away with putting a much newer cpu in it, if you wanted to. There are mobile XP's with multipliers of 16, so you could get to 1.6ghz. Those chips can be pricey though.

    • @RememberThisTech

      Hey there! I'm not 100% sure if the cpu can be removed. But there's a few more issues with the laptop so I may have to remove more of the casing to go deeper to troubleshoot. If I do that I'll for sure see if there's a retention mechanism for the cpu. Stay tuned!
