If only the DeBarge’s Mother would swallow her pride and admit her failure in raising them. I feel that would break down those old barriers, especially between her and Bunny. She knew her daughter Bunny was consistently being abused by her husband and yet she requested burying the evil instead of meeting it head on.

It's easy for us to now second guess decisions that where made but I believe that the Mother was also a victim Married at 17 and the to be tied down with 10kids it's not easy, the community was also at fault the Government the church they all shoulder some blame, but to put this on the mother is not fair she had no family support or I believe if she did it came to late. obviously.
They left some major aspects of their lives out of that movie, including the fact that Bobby molested James for years.That indeed played a large part in his down-hill spiral.

Bunny and the rest of fam l believe would tell a whole lot more and give the whole picture. Although the movie is about Bobby they could make a mini series 4 the generation of kids who don't know the talent of the entire fam. I hope BET remakes it and give the Debarge family justice with this project. The Debarge fam deserves it.
Seeing James talk made me tear up. He sounded just like my brother when we talked one month before he died from a drug overdose. I guess I was trying to get a message through to him, but he wasn't hearing me because I wasn't hearing him. Maybe that's the key. We have to REALLY listen to and feel what people on drugs are saying because when you get right down to it, they know more about their condition than we do. When James says he doesn't care, notice how the doctor said he doesn't believe that. I said the same thing to my brother before he died. When people on drugs say they don't care, take it that they aren't lying. They still seem like cool people to be around though. Makes me tear up to see how they genuinely love each other. The way Randy hugged James reminds me of how my older brother would hug and even kiss me at times..... Man I miss that.

This is so sad...so many people failed them as children (starting with their mother who was too afraid of their father to truly protect them). And because of all the people back then who knew what was going on in their household but felt they just needed to “mind their business” instead of intervening, I can see why they became damaged adults and had trust issues... Bobby Debarge physically and sexually molested James because of the demonic and torturous acts Bobby was receiving from their father. The mother’s family stepped in multiple times. Her brother beat her husband bloody because he was abusing the kids. They even took Bunny away for a while. It seems as if Mama Debarge is extremely selfish. She sacrificed her children for her own happiness.

I don't like the way they are talking to the family. As someone who has been abused in every way by my parents, the shit hurts. Sometimes, we don't need instructions. We need someone to simply acknowledge all that pain we endured throughout our entire childhood. If its hard for us to admit what we went thru...imagine how hard it is to live with it.

They never felt secured even when they had each other. The first two people that they trusted (mom and dad) didn’t make them feel secured. Their father was an alcoholic and an abuser, and their mother was a bystander and looked the other way when it was happening. So no, I’m not surprised that they use alcohol and drugs to make them forget. It happens. They were children and should’ve been protected. But I pray so hard for this family. Pray for their healing so hard. They deserve that much. And I’m glad that they have one another. Just finished watching the Bobby Debarge Story. I just really pray they continue to get the help they need to start living their life and be at peace not only with themselves, but their past.
Oh my heart goes out to them...especially James! Back in the day - people considered a person crazy to have psychotherapists and psychiatrists but it is needed. It's a hole in his heart and he needs tools to fill that hole. But I still adore this family's talents...Wishing them the best...and praying for a better life hoping it's not too late!

I wish the whole family if brothers & sisters and the mom would get together and put it all out on the table. Confront the mom about the past abuse and she needs to be held accountable. That's the whole start of the downhill issues and drug use. Poor kids still scared and traumatized in adult bodies.
Oh James hurts the heart and soul. They are addicted to each other because they share the trauma. Addicted to the drugs because they always got high together as well. I hope they all are better now. This family is amazing and blessed with so much talent. I'm always rooting for them.
Iyanla is nothing more than a life coach. When you are dealing with this level of trauma you need trauma THERAPY, from educated licensed psychologist. They do not need to be on anyone’s tv and their traumatic experiences do not need to be on TV for the world to see.

There are a lot of people who feel worthless and are in pain, not knowing how much they are loved. People who have had a positive impact on so many lives, but when you're depressed you just don't see it. Imagine if the Debarge family hadn't existed. Domino effect. Wow James looked so good on Unsung like he was really over it & you could tell by this video he wasn't going to stay in treatment he was reluctant to go. He pretty much has given his soul over because he knows he is dead inside, pessimistic about life & everything in it I pray Bunny is still clean like they said they have been sober before but it didn't last. Unsung made them relive the Tragedy of it all lord have mercy on their souls.

May they all positively receive & the nurturing that they did not get under the abuses they experience. Hope they heal and get to thrive. My thing is this: There are future drug users that will watch this video and end up in the same predicament or worse. What will it take? Leave those damn drugs alone! My friends use to tease me back in the day about not using drugs...they are all gone now...from using drugs. People get stressed out and the things they usually grab are drugs and alcohol. Sad situation.

Religion is so messed up. Mama DeBarge blamed all the abuse on "the Devil" and never pressed charges against the monster in her own home. It's so easy to blame uncomfortable things on a vague "devil" or "demon," isn't it? It's much harder to address issues head-on like an adult. These are the most traumatized humans I've ever seen. Someone should be held accountable.

Pray for their healing so hard. They deserve that much. And I’m glad that they have one another. Just finished watching the Bobby Debarge Story. I just really pray they continue to get the help they need to start living their life and be at peace not only with themselves, but their past.

Oh my heart goes out to them...especially James! Back in the day - people considered a person crazy to have psychotherapists and psychiatrists but it is needed. It's a hole in his heart and he needs tools to fill that hole. But I still adore this family's talents...Wishing them the best...and praying for a better life hoping it's not too late!
My heart broke for James lm thinking the physical and emotional abuse that he endured as a child from his abusive older brother Bobby in very well in there in his mind and soul..

I wish the whole family if brothers & sisters and the mom would get together and put it all out on the table. Confront the mom about the past abuse and she needs to be held accountable. That's the whole start of the downhill issues and drug use. Poor kids still scared and traumatized in adult bodies.
Their mom is 85 years old. There ain't no telling what kind of condition she's in, to be a part of the healing process.
Oh James hurts the heart and soul. They are addicted to each other because they share the trauma. Addicted to the drugs because they always got high together as well. I hope they all are better now. This family is amazing and blessed with so much talent. I'm always rooting for them.

Iyanla is nothing more than a life coach. When you are dealing with this level of trauma you need trauma THERAPY, from educated licensed psychologist. They do not need to be on anyone’s tv and their traumatic experiences do not need to be on TV for the world to see.

There are a lot of people who feel worthless and are in pain, not knowing how much they are loved. People who have had a positive impact on so many lives, but when you're depressed you just don't see it. Imagine if the Debarge family hadn't existed. Domino effect. How many rap songs wouldn't have been.. I hope they realize how so many regular people that they will never know have heard their music and smiled. I hope they do heal and find peace.
Wow James looked so good on Unsung like he was really over it & you could tell by this video he wasn't going to stay in treatment he was reluctant to go.
He pretty much has given his soul over because he knows he is dead inside, pessimistic about life & everything in it I pray Bunny is still clean like they said they have been sober before but it didn't last. Unsung made them relive the Tragedy of it all lord have mercy on their souls.

You're right about James reluctance to go, I kind of wish that the Dr.'s had shown him a little more compassion. While, helping him, still allow him to "feel" the way he felt in that moment. God is the Only Source of Divine Healing that will mend each of their severely abused life’s. No one has the right to snatch the souls & spirits of any body else. Yet it happens. May they all positively receive & the nurturing that they did not get under the abuses they experience. Hope they heal and get to thrive. Prayers go out to each DeBarge that the get to fully living loving themselves. Mental Health is just as important as physical health. Life is fragile.

Heartbreaking, just heartbreaking. But such great art comes from such deep pain. That is why we get so drawn in by it. It speaks to our own pain. It's just for them its all out in the open live whole we watch. Few could handle/manage it, very few.

May God take this family in hand to get the help they will need and bring them through, listening carefully to what's being said, They can not confront the father because he has passed and the mother isn't accepting the trauma in their lives, I believe, this has been in the way of their continued recovery .. Their not getting answers and the support thats needed... I watched a clip El Drbarge's recovery, he has family that's taken him in and he looks and sounds great ... The Debarge's was broken as kid's, they have to be almost re raised to adults to get their lives together, they are broken... I pray that they get what is needed.. I love you Debarge family💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

My friends use to tease me back in the day about not using drugs...they are all gone now...from using drugs. People get stressed out and the things they usually grab are drugs and alcohol. They seemed to have wanted an easy lifestyle and didn’t want to work for it and when it failed, they turned to drugs. They’ve tried everything, but God and that’s why they are in this predicament.

They are such a beautiful family, physically and in spirit with a great god given talent. I hope they get the help that they desperately need. Religion is so messed up. Mama DeBarge blamed all the abuse on "the Devil" and never pressed charges against the monster in her own home. It's so easy to blame uncomfortable things on a vague "devil" or "demon," isn't it? It's much harder to address issues head-on like an adult. These are the most traumatized humans I've ever seen. Someone should be held accountable.
I didn't even know that their father was abusing them I had to read up on it and I'm still reading up on it and Bunny and she was molested but the boys they seem to have been beaten up by him a lot he was horrible to them and especially he was a horrible to his wife Mama DeBarge

@@reinacisne460 The father physically abused all the kids but James I believe. He molested and physically abused Bonnie and Bobby. Bobby was the oldest. As a result of James being treated better, Bobby in return abused him physically and sexually. James said in a video, "He tried to kill me." Watch the UNSUNG episode.
