I was at that game when Nick hit the shot against the Celts, in the Garden. I was one of the few people who were loving it.

@@MrPocketfullOfSteelI definitely think they would have won one, maybe two. But Nick didn't have the same impact as Kobe did and Nick was my favorite player after Magic retired

Honestly watching all these 90s Point Guards I think they were more skilled and fundamentaly more sound than todays because they had less space to create their own shots. In addition, they had pass first mentality but still avg 20+, 10 assists with 2 steals. Amazing era

VanExel was the original FREAKSHOW in L.A.with his shaken&bake and clutch shots made. He was a True Hezi God and a underrated passer.

Yup, at 9:40+ he was doing iverson crossover a few years before iverson came into the league

Paused at the 12:27 mark to comment and I want *YOUR OPINIONS,* fellas. I never followed the NBA (I know) - I just did college hoops. But when Huggs came to UC and started producing talent and those fellas made the jump etc. - then I would keep an eye on them here and there ie; looking at the boxs cores in the local Cincinnati newspapers.
You guys that lived in LA when Nick was there.....or just followed the NBA etc. Would I be wrong in saying that if Nick had stayed in LA and Kobe had ended up ANYWHERE *but* LA.....do you guys think Nicky and LA could have won a title?
I do. I really do. Any team that wins it all...... EVERY TEAM (IMO) needs a Nick Van Exel, IMO. At a Cincinnati fan, and hindsight always being what it is. When I look back at those early UC teams, if NVE had ONE MORE SEASON.....just one more, the Cincinnati Bearcats would have brought the trophy back to Clifton.
Just curious what you guys (who followed the NBA back in the day) think about my question. TIA.

I’m going to go one point further and say that a core trio of a young Kobe, a prime Shaq and a prime NVE could have been a dynasty from 99-03. Imagine if Nick would have performed in the playoffs for the Lakers instead of the Mavs. It would have been a lock. I would have loved to have seen Nick duel with Iverson. AI would have had his hands full guarding him. But even without Kobe, Shaq, Nick, Eddie, Horry and Campbell would have been a force to be sure. I personally would have kept Ceballos off the bench but that’s me.

@@JD37 Thanks dude. I didn't even want to include Kobe in the conversation (though I agree with you) because I always had the feeling......and apparently others did too.
That Nick staying in LA would have *NEVER* worked once they signed Bryant. Dude wouldn't have allowed it, IMO. Kobe's ego was too big, combine that with Shaq....I had always believed (though I could be off base) that Shaq knew he could control Kobe.
Shaq *NOR* Kobe Bryant could have ever controlled, Nick Van Exel. IMO. But indeed, if egos could have been kept in check, that would have/could have been a dynasty.

You’re probably right. When factoring in intangibles, that’s most likely the case. I just meant purely in terms of talent. By 2003, Shaq and Kobe probably wished they hadn’t jettisoned so much talent. Their shelf life would have expanded greatly.
