@@questionreality6003 Nope. Taiwan only ended the dictatorship in the 80s. In fact, even if the communists didn't win, China would still be a dictatorship at least util the 80s, a right wing dictatorship. And i doubt there would be a democratic large Hong Kong considering the Chinese population takes 1/5 of the world population and would China be an ally of the west just because it is democratic?

Chiang Kai-shek was a Chinese nationalist HERO, an enlightened CHRISTIAN leader, and a bulwark against both communism and fascism. His legacy has been under siege and systematically distorted by Chinese communists (CPC), Taiwanese nationalists (DPP), and bleeding-heart liberals in the Western mainstream media. God willing, Chiang's portrait will replace lowlife Mao's in Tiananmen Square once again! Take back the mainland! Liberate the people! Three principles of the people unite China! Blue Sky, White Sun, and a Wholly Red Earth!!

I second that. I'm a Mandarin speaker (who lived most of his life in the US, though) and I can barely understand him. In fact, most of what I understood was through his English-speaking interpreter.

If you write off mass murdering millions, allying with Shanghai gangs to defeat the communists and having his armies treat the Chinese people almost as poorly as the occupying Japanese, then yeah, sure, he made "mistakes".
He was no better than Mao, and honestly China is definitely better off on the long term with CCP rule than with the Kuomintang. China's economic model of market socialism is the main reason they lifted almost their entire population out of poverty in the past 4 decades and rose as a superpower, while with the Kuomintang you would've had either a. a corrupt failed state puppeteered economically by corporate interests and politically by foreign governments like Japan and the USA or b. an emerging powerful NATIONALIST 21st century China that would be far more aggressive than the PRC in pursuing its territorial claims, would discriminate much more against non-Han ethnic minorities (whose culture the CCP actually champions and protects them legally to the point that they have a few more rights than Han Chinese...) and could've even started world war 3 with the USSR if they ever obtained nukes in the 20th century as Chiang Kai Shek was maniacally anti-communist... Still, even without the last thing happening, none of the 2 cases I can envision for a Kuomintang China would've been better for the Chinese people or for foreigners than the current CCP-led China.

@John Charles lol at "who destroyed the Chinese cultural heritages", when Taiwan is westernized af and mainland China has a resurgence of traditional culture for decades now, a hanfu movement, is the largest producer on Earth of historical dramas etc - if you think the ROC is more Chinese than the PRC nowadays you're just clueless about China in general...
"Who killed more than 40 million of his countrymen?" - the answer is nobody. Really. That's a bogus inflated number discredited by all scholars coming from the propaganda piece called "the black book of communism", which even counts nazis, Japanese fascist soldiers and KMT soldiers killed in the civil war as "victims of communism". The actual number of people that died because of Mao's actions is way lower (likely less than half that) and many millions of Chinese also died because of Chiang Kai-Skek's white terror and other horrendous policies, both before and after 1949 - neither Mao nor Chiang Kai-Shek were paragons of virtue, so ultimately comparing their death counts is useless! One should rather look at what China has become under the CCP and was likely to become under the KMT if you are to assess in which scenario China is "better off"...
Third, how were the Soviets the aggressors in China, when they literally liberated Manchuria from the Japanese for them???
Fourth, I can partly agree that "Mao destroyed the Chinese economy" (especially if one looks at the Great Leap forward or his horrendous agrarian policies, including pseudo-scientific crap like Lisenkoism) , but the CPC itself, especially after Mao's death, revived it and made it an industrial superpower set to inevitably overtake America this century, had massive poverty alleviation programs that basically ended hunger, illiteracy and homelessness in China, and basically managed the country way better than the KMT ever did, so that kinda invalidates your implied point (that the KMT is better), doesn't it?
Fifth, the PRC allowed Mongolia to have independence and be in a Soviet sphere of influence throughout the cold war - it didn't "give it to the Soviets" or whatever nonsense you typed in there. Outer/Northern Mongolia was lost to the KMT since it had a communist revolution in the 1920s, and the fact that Taiwan keeps claiming it even nowadays actually illustrates my point that a KMT-controlled China would be a far more aggressive, nationalistic and jingoistic power than the PRC!
Won't waste more time with your comment, but your questions and assumptions themselves are already full of lies and anti-Chinese propaganda, so, given you've got a Pepe avatar as well, I suspect you're some altright idiot who anyways hates China. Feel free to argue back against my five points and covince me otherwise, but I'm done debunking your propaganda for now, so until next time!

Shek is actually the cantonese pronounciation of mandarin "shi" meaning stone. I didn't know why, but I once read that Chiang used the name "Kai-shek" (in Cantonese, in Mandarin it is "Jieshi") as his pen name when he was studying in Japan. He is widely known as Chiang Kai-shek because the Nationalist KMT's headquarter at the time was in Guangzhou (Canton).

China and Russia have always had a not so pleasant diplomacy since the early 20th century. The Soviet Union was supporting a communist uprising threatening stability and the kuomanting government( Kai shek was paranoid of communist supporters causing so he would do purges to fight the growth of communism, the Soviets did not like this causing diplomatic relations to stagnate ) an uprising occurred sponsored by the Soviets and the Chinese Communist Party joined the Comentern (The first faction of the soviets) though failed miserably resorting them to do the “long march”. After this Chang Kai-shek was furious since originally the Soviets backed them as the legitimate government only to sponsor a Coup. This also fed into more of his paranoia of communist.

      Kalot Wang
Have you not heard of the Russo-Japanese war of 1905? You see,for CENTURIES NOW Russia has had imperialistic ambitions in the Far East, not only Siberia (extending into Alaska, which they sold to the Americans in 1867), but also MONGOLIA, KOREA, and MANCHURIA.
The Xinjiang region has ethnic and religious ties with what used to be Russian- or Soviet-occupied Central Asia. Uighurs speak a Turkic language, like Kirghiz, Kazakhs, Uzbek, Turkmen, and other national groups ruled by the Russians. Of course China has wanted, and still wants control of all the non-Chinese ethnic areas which surround China proper. These are not only 'satellites' but also outlets for population pressure within China.
So there is natural competition, which makes the current alliance between Putin and Xi look VERY STRANGE. I do not trust them AT ALL. They are like two wolves which suddenly decide to work together for more efficient killing.
I don't think that the alliance has anything to do with 'communist brotherhood'. Russia has NOT been communist since 1991, and China is communist in NAME ONLY. It retains the centralized command structure but its economy is mostly capitalist: look at the Chinese BILLIONAIRES who are popping up all over the world.
I realize that Chiang Kai-Shek was a general, a man of blood as it were. But I like one thing about him very much: he seems to have been serious enough about his Christianity to provided Bibles for some of his troops (I think it was in Taiwan, after 1949, but I'm not sure). The Bible is the only book which tells us where we can find forgiveness for our sins, and a kind of life which will outlast the grave:
(Romans 5:8) 'For God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.'
(John 3:16) 'For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.'
