Nice video and good information, I’ve also found the following drill to be helpful, when I take my practice swing i visualize a ball on the ground and swing as if I am actually hitting the shot I want to hit. My main focus is on my path and tempo. The key is that I have the same intent in my practice swing as my real swing. It has helped me a lot. Keep up the good work Chris!
A great video ...... I have so many problems doing this.....the word "HIT" fills my brain whenever over the ball......sometimes focusing on my breathing helps, but only sometimes ;-)
Chris, I like you because you share and retained how you got to where you are with such good details and sensitivity. Thumbs up for sure, great teacher. Planning to get thru much more of your videos. A great teacher shares his real experience or path and hopefully it resonates with the listeners......You are #1. Please keep it up.
Thanks for the Video! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Yanaylee Yanrooklyn Magic (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for unlocking an effective golf swing technique without the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my work buddy after many years got amazing results with it.
Excellent video Chris....been playing for less than a year and i always get mad that when i go to the range i do a lot better than actually on the course
I was stuck behind a 2 ball today the fella was waiting for his partner to take his shot and then ( before every shot) he would take 5 practice swings which I could deal with if he then went on to make great shots but no not the case 9 out of 10 he still managed to make a mess of. wish I knew him so I could send this video ( great vid Chris ) Cheers
Haha, thanks John, that’s all to common in the course, sometimes people put too much emphasis on the practice swing and make them far too deliberate, sounds like he was from your post 👍👍
Although it's not exactly a practice swing, I also feel more at ease with lay up shots as well. Not having a small target to hit to seems to not make me as tense. That is also a feeling I would like to take to the tee more often.
Practice swing are perfect. Brush the grass at a serious rate of knots every time, club finishes wrapped round the back of my neck. Pull a ball there and I take a divot the size of the Grand Canyon two inches behind the ball and the club shaft doesn't even get to parallel. I watched this 3 times, I don't quite get how it helps.
Great info golf video Chris. I'm currently reading a book titled The Practice Manual, written by Adam Young who has degrees from University of Birmingham, UK. I will share this video with 6 golfer that have this issue. Thankz for sharing Chris 👍👍
Chris, slightly different problem: Sometimes my swing (and I mean actually hitting balls) is great during warm up and through the first few holes of a round. Then the wheels come off. I "try" different things to get my swing back, which I'm sure are either not the problem, or are compensations for whatever I am doing wrong, but never succeed for the remainder of that round. Do you have a video that addresses this? (I'm new to your channel, so if you've already produced a video on this, please point me in to it.) Thanks!
I have added the pause to my normal swing. It allows me to do a few things. 1. Spine angle stays where it should be. The faster I swing the more my position goes off. 2. My hand and arms are set correctly. 3. My distance from the ground does not change 4. My downswing is more deliberate. In total I need to feel I am in the right position for the downswing.
once people put a score card and a ball into play that's when the pressure gets to them they tend to get nervous cause now they have to post score .....great video Chris
And on a different note.....for many amateurs the ideal driving range conditions with forgiving mats and tees (here almost nowhere you can practice from grass) and no idea how the ball lands is so unlike hitting out of the grass with divots, (semi)rough and landing on fast or bumpy greens....Can't we make the our driving and practice ranges more like the average golf course?
Hi Chris. On the actual swing there is a tendency to come down too quickly with my arms before the hips have moved to the left ie out of the way. Would you recommend trying to stop your arms coming down and pull them through with a good hip turn Many thanks Regards David Walters
Hi David, I’d try to focus on sequencing and starting with the pressure/body moving towards the target, this should help rather than thinking about the hands etc 👍
I see and play with people that always take 2-3 practice swings and then totally screw up their actual shot. I only take a practice swing if I'm chipping over bunkers or a delicate short chip. Seems to work for me. Will pass this video onto a few mates.
Ive never been a practice swing person. I try to visulise the ball flight and when i'm concentrating i play better. Unfortunately my concentrating ability is not to good sometimes. Maybe i should take a practice swing
The practice swing has to bear some resemblance to the shot you want to play...i.e if you need to hit a knock down wedge, then a full practice swing behind the ball is the last thing your muscles will remember...and hence you'll hit a poor shot. You should have 2-3 practice swings trying to recreate the exact shot you need to hit.
It’s not the practice swing that is issue. It that my range practice before a round is awesome. Then I hit that same 7 iron on the course and it is a disaster.
Oh how I recognise that 😂 love your videos Chris, normally because they always make sense, not usually for comedy value though! Keep up the great work, plenty of your tuition has got me further away from what you've just demonstrated 😁
Every single swing on the range should always be a different club, different target, different distance. EVERY SWING! Driver, hybrid, 6 and 9 or something like that, in order. NEVER hit a club twice in a row, NEVER! Practice like you play and play like you practiced. Pressure, nerves, routine, tempo.. that's how you practice golf. Don't practice swinging, practice GOLF!

So true. My practice swings are great. Hope to learn from you , as always.

Well, I still have no idea how I manage to hit such a small target at my feet every time. That it goes anywhere close to where I want is a miracle.

Love the paus Matsuyama does.
He has a great paws
Excellent video Chris....been playing for less than a year and i always get mad that when i go to the range i do a lot better than actually on the course
Thanks Daniel, really tough but understanding why there is a difference is the first part 👍

What do you mean by "share this video"?

Awesome Phil, it’s all about finding what works for you, sounds like this does so no need to change it 👍

Thanks Michael and couldn’t agree more 👍

Yeah different surfaces can make huge differences too 👍

Excellent, thank you..
My home course has two different hitting areas on the range. Fairway cut and rough.
I see and play with people that always take 2-3 practice swings and then totally screw up their actual shot. I only take a practice swing if I'm chipping over bunkers or a delicate short chip. Seems to work for me. Will pass this video onto a few mates.
Thanks Rob 👍👍
I was laughing so hard at 44 sec :)
Ive seen myself for a moment
This is so true. Good job
Haha, we have all been there and can relate 👍
I find when I stand over the ball to actually hit it there's a lot more tension in me. Tension is most un-conducive to producing good shots.
Hi Ron, so true, and it goes back to the first pint here in that here is a consequence when the ball is there, changes so much 👍
5:35 that nicka shanked TF out of that
Ive never been a practice swing person. I try to visulise the ball flight and when i'm concentrating i play better. Unfortunately my concentrating ability is not to good sometimes.
Maybe i should take a practice swing
Well said.
Thanks Wilson 👍

Grip, set up, go! No more no less!
This is defo me.
It’s not the practice swing that is issue. It that my range practice before a round is awesome. Then I hit that same 7 iron on the course and it is a disaster.
Because you suddenly start thinking about it.
Oh how I recognise that 😂 love your videos Chris, normally because they always make sense, not usually for comedy value though! Keep up the great work, plenty of your tuition has got me further away from what you've just demonstrated 😁
Haha, thanks Owen, comedy??? That was a genuine attempt to hit a good shot!! 😂
Am I that golfer? We’re all that golfer!
Ferk me done that swing!
This is me !! Ahhh
My buddies laugh at me because i practice with wiffle balls; but it gives some great options.
Ha, that 1st shot reminded me of myself
Your bumbling twin is cool !!! Lol
In golf, the target is not the ball.

Your so funny.
Not the first time someone has laughed at me playing golf 😂
