I honestly wish I could’ve grown up in times with these classic railroads, my grandpa was born in ‘59 so this is a bit difficult to wrap my head around since I was born in ‘08, but even so I still love seeing these old workhorses back in the day
My Grandpa started out working for Great Northern, it's funny to think he could have been the engineer on one of those engines. His name was Dean Abbott, if anyone knew him I'd love to hear any stories you might have about him. He drove freight from Spokane to Whitefish for 20+ years.
My Dad would have enjoyed these old film's. He was born in Sacred Heart Hosp, in 1938 he went in the Navy in 56 but moved back in 1964 the year I was born...But He told me all about Spokane. The Roller Coaster in Natatorium Park( The Jackrabbit) was one thing he Loved!!!! R.I.P DAD😘
Yeah but just like seattle spokane has become refuge for alot of unsavorey charecters. Theres nothing here to do anymore but watch the trains go by. Everyone who has any sence leaves town on the weekends for more pleasent scenery.
awsome, thanks for sharing. Only a few clips on the internet including the ol' SP&S.
I love this. Thanks for posting!
These clips show the old High Bridge train trestle (now gone) that brought the trains in over the Spokane River from the west side into Kendall Yards. My uncles, who grew up on the Sunset Hill, regaled to us their dare-deviled antics of playing "chicken" as kids, running across this trestle before the trains came! At about the 4min30sec point of this video, the older boy looks just like my Uncle Richard!!!! Would the owner of this video please contact me and let me know who these kids might be? Thanks! sxtn102 at that yahoo dot com email location
