I really, really like the way Justin plays. Most of all because he isn't a show-off, throwing around crazy-fast licks. Everything he plays is in service of the song. I think one of the most important lessons here is: it's not about you, it's about the song. Great stuff, very inspiring!
Same here. He's all melody and chords and zero flash. I want to hear a collaboration with him and Rick Beato because I think the two of them are cut from the same cloth as players
So good... please Justin do some more of these type videos... in years to come, young guitar players will have this body of knowledge from you, RJ, Guthrie, Ford, Tim Pierce, Cory, Rob and all of the others... it’s so great to be an intermediate player right now. This stuff is so inspiring....
Brett, these interviews are so compelling. I love the way you tease out all this information from these incredibly talented musicians. I've learned SO much from these videos. Thank you so much to you and your guests.
Thanks man, you have no idea how many people around the world your lessons help, me included. I love these parts and insights from you and Justin. Pure gold.
A real quality look behind the session scenes with Justin, Brett my friend & a great outro & intro! !!... & a heads up Billy Duffy soon coming to a 'live chat' YT interview will send you FB PM
Brett, you are a gift to us! One of the best channels on TH-cam! You have brought to light so many incredible guitarists. Thank you! P.s. you have improved wonders in knowing what to ask, when to ask, and when to not speak. Your vids are such a pleasure to watch!
Getting to see these session guys is really cool. Thanks P- Stash. Sure would like to see a Kenny Vaughn thing sometime. And when I went Justin's site, it says no content. ?
Outstanding! The conversation confirms so many things that I thought I knew but just wasn't sure of. So helpful. This material I can apply to what I play now. I love the "simple but with conviction" mindset.
Man, Justin is funny as hell and his playing just perks my ears up. I love the line of questioning, too, Brett: What is it that makes these session players sound like they do? It does seem as if a part of it is their experience in terms of what is good enough as well as problem solving in order to get the gig. But also these players do put a bit of their soul into the smallest parts and it shines through no matter the genre requirements. Cool stuff!
Oh GOD, why did you guys stop playing after 2 mins 😊 . I completely lost myself in to a imaginary world listening to the beautiful soothing music ❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌. What a beauty of talent you guys have, music touching the soul and mind like going to heaven and then coming back to earth ❤️❤️❤️. Let me repeat again those starting 2 mins music & listen to it again . Love it ❤️❤️❤️ 😄😄😄😄😄..
@@BrettPapa Thanks millions Brett 🙏. Heard the end too ❤️❤️. Its sooooo Beautifulllll ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌👌.. I feel like closing my eyes and listen to this whole day ❤️❤️❤️.. You guys are genius in soul touching music 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I like John Mayer's guitar playing and writing but don't really like his voice. He has this frat boy thing I can't seem to unsee. Same thing with Dave Mathews. I try not to think like that but I can't shake it. Some guitar players I love everything about them but then with some I maybe don't like their voice or personal character but think they play some great guitar. Just missing something for me. I guess we can't relate to everyone right? I like the kind of players that are maybe a little rough around the edges like Keith Richards. Haha. No preppie thing to be found in any of the guitar players I love. I don't feel like there was any real hard struggles in John Mayer's life growing up. He can feel it on guitar but that's only part of it. As a person I don't find him real interesting. I don't hate him though.
Not sure what you mean. Justin and myself played the parts live. The other instruments were prerecorded but our performance and parts were recorded when we shot the video.

Yep the session cats are a special breed.
Great comment. Thanks a ton! At this point, I can’t *not* care about the song and the parts I’m playing on it.

That is awesome to hear! Thanks for checking out the vids!
What kind of music is it? Pop or rock? Yes! I love that answer. Really drives home the notion that music is music no matter what you classify it as!
For sure!
Great stuff. You guys jell well!
Thanks man! More coming soon!
I like it, sounds fresh
Thanks Bob! Thanks for checking it out!

Hey Justin Nice guitar!! Sweet tones! Please upload videos!!
Haha he is in the process of recording videos now! There will be some up soon!
@@BrettPapa hey Brett thanks for your all your efforts to give us the best of today's guitar, I have learned a lot from you!
Excellent!
Thanks Joseph!
Beautiful
Thank you Brett Papa for bringing us such great players. I'm also including you ;-)
You bet! Thanks for checking us all out!
How did you both decide what to wear :) twinning!
Lol totally spontaneous!
Bautiful love it
Justin is the man!
So good!
Thanks Tyler!
How did I miss this cat until today?! Killer player and tones. Great video, Brett 🤘
He is amazing! More coming soon!
I agree.. Much of guitar playing is knowing when NOT to play. Letting the song breathe is so important. And Jimmy Page.. Heck yeah. My favourite.
For sure! It is an art all on its own!
THANKYOU!!! everythings off the vocal line.
M E L O D Y & WORDS/story= song...
thnx again SO much fer ALL this SO good stuff!!!!

Seeing these session guys is awesome. Definitely some killer players. Fingers crossed to see you snag Brent Mason for a video.
Thanks for checking it out! I'll see what I can do to get Brent over!
30:40 “I go both ways”.... Lmmfao! I think I peed a little! 🤘😂🤘
Lol!
Awesome video! Thanks for doing this guys :)
PS - How about those 'ghost notes' at 0:01? :D
Thanks Jason! Thanks for tuning in!
Great talk😎
Thanks!
Beautiful White Tara Thangka behind you. I have one too.
Thanks man it was a gift from a dear friend.
Is there a pic of his board somewhere? Sounds great
Yeah I'll do that next time he is in.
I would love to attend a guitar clinic, some chillout hotel / spa resort and brett papa doing some teaching with a group of mb 15 ppl or so
I'll see if I can make that happen soon!
What model is that Jazz? Good Lord it sounds amazing!
Fender American Professional II Jazzmaster RW 3TSB
If I'm correct..
For sure! That guitar sounds awesome!
It’s a danocaster. I wanted burgundy mist metallic with a gold guard. Dan delivered!
@@JustinOstrander She's beautiful! Thanks for the reply and great tones!
Great lesson. Thanks Papa. Justin’s playing is sorta ethereal and papa complements him great. Btw: what is the name of Justin’s guitar?
It’s a Danocaster Jazzmaster.
Thanks Al!
Did he play on the Maren Morris song The bones? Was it intentional? It sounds great
Not sure
please make a tutorial how to play Religious Vomit by Dead Kennedys!
Hit the thumbs up two seconds in
Thanks Jeff!
Cool
Thanks Tom!
@@BrettPapa I'm also the goof that ACCIDENTALLY down voted it. It's been corrected. sorry
Sounds a lot like The Bones progression
Haha!
Top job, as ever. Thanks for sharing. Check out @Brett Papa's courses if you've not already done so..... ...highly recommended.
Thank ya Simon! Thanks for the support!
This is my kinda vibe, so tasty!
More Justin coming soon! Thanks for watching Paul!
Is this based on the song by Brett Young?
No I don't think so. It is a very popular chord progression and these techniques are used a ton in country music.
its all about the phrasing isnt it
100%
EXACTLY. We’ve all got the same notes. It’s more where you put them.
Sound problems
Hmmmm like what? Seems good on my end.
I like John Mayer's guitar playing and writing but don't really like his voice. He has this frat boy thing I can't seem to unsee. Same thing with Dave Mathews. The only problem I have with this sounds like bad commercial music. Good players but in the end it's drivel.
Haha well I guess there is that way to look at it. It's a concept to write your own tunes.
lip sync much
Not sure what you mean. Justin and myself played the parts live. The other instruments were prerecorded but our performance and parts were recorded when we shot the video.
@@BrettPapa there are plenty of parts that don't match what we see, you know what I mean dude.. check your editing then
