Greatest comedy team of all time, making some of the greatest comedy shows of all time. Bottom, The Young Ones and Filthy Rich and Catflap a couple examples of the work of these two geniuses. There is nothing on TV now that even comes close to the masterpieces these two produced.
I used to watch all this as a kid (probably should not have) but I used to love it and I re-watched the entire show again recently and the sheer volume of stuff that went over my head as a kid is great cos it was like watching it brand new again. I think I just laughed at the absurd violence when I was young and some of the more obvious and stupid lines.. still laughed like a child watching it again. RIP Rik, and thanks for the all the laughs. Thank you as well, Ade.
They used to air this and Young Ones on a tv channel for kids in Canada. Since stuff needs to be cut down to 22:18 to fit the North American timeslot (more ads) they'd just make anything not appropriate for kids the first thing to go. Since both shows are already weird and sometimes have abrupt scene changes it wasn't obvious. It was nice when I finally watched the vhs versions and saw it uncut. Like getting to watch every episode for the first time twice.
I let my children watch it too. All they saw was two funny men getting into fights and hurting themselves - a bit like Tom and Jerry. The rude stuff went over their heads. We still watch it together. They are in their late 30s now.
I don't know why, but I really love the way Adrian laughs then says, ''I'm winning so far.'' Can imagine being on that set and holding a contest to see who shags up their lines the least!
