Definitely one of the most helpful and informative videos that I have seen on the topic of streaming devices! This makes me feel pretty confident in the Express 4K+, especially considering it is only $29.99 at the moment. Thanks!
Still using my old Roku 2 lol! However I’m looking to add another Roku device to another TV. I’m going with the 4K+. Thank you for a very informative video!
I usually go with the Roku Ultra for myself. It's the only Roku device currently with Ethernet. While this doesn't usually make a difference on good WiFi, for online streaming, it does matter for local streaming such as Plex, and watching full quality rips of Blu-ray and above. They are high bitrate files and usually are good at showing WiFi flaws resulting in stutter and poor playback. As a secondary and third solution for this: I use InFuse on Apple TV, and DLNA (Serviio, or Plex) with my Sony 4k Blu-ray players. Overall, I prefer wired over wireless whenever possible. However, I know this isn't possible for everyone for different reasons.
Agreed plus the USB port lets you plug in an external drive with your own personal library of movies, TV shows and music. I can take files directly from my DVR to Roku this way although I usually compress files I want to keep permanently.
@@dtshifter There is one other thing to consider as well, and this is more of a Roku isn't for everyone thing. That of course is lossless audio, mainly when talking about movie and TV soundtracks, but it also applies to music. Roku doesn't support lossless audio for movies and TV, not sure if they do for music, or not. I know DTS HD MA, or TrueHD aren't supported, but the lossy codecs are. Does Roku play FLAC, or WAVE, etc? I know it can output stereo PCM, but that's not lossless if the source is still lossy.
The smaller streaming devices usually compromise somewhere, cooling efficiency, power, etc. Get the larger device, I'm telling you this because I've had 2 streaming sticks that plug right into the HDMI port. One was android TV and the other a 4k fire stick. They would kick me out of TH-cam and sometimes be unresponsive.
Thanks for the great review, Philip. I was curious as how it compares to the previous Roku stick. No need to upgrade as of yet as I now have a 4k Roku. TV in the living room and a Roku stick and Fire Stick 4K on a Samsung wide screen in my bedroom. I was quite impressed with the 4K Roku TV, especially for the money. But I feel the best results are using a streaming device on a good set like Samsung or Sony.
Thanks for the question! Sadly, I didn't have enough time during testing to retest all the devices I wanted to, but from a spec standpoint, the current Streaming Stick+ boasts largely similar feature support compared to the Express 4K+. Performance-wise, I suspect the newer Express 4K+ might have a slight edge, but that's just a hunch. Stay tuned, though! Once we get OS 10 up and running on our suite of Roku hardware, I'm looking forward to comparing each one to see if we can spot any performance improvements. Thanks, Philip
There's no CPU upgrade The difference is in previous model they wrote A53 cortex and In new line up they mentioned that CPU name, Realtek 1315 Which is based on cortex a53.
Hi there and thanks for the comment! And for what it's worth, at some point after we published our review, Roku apparently updated the way it lists specs for the Express 4K+ (and the 4K). It now lists both models as having ARM Cortex A55 on board, as opposed to the earlier A53 on the Express and Express+. I'm not sure exactly when they changed that spec detail, but hope that helps! Thanks, Philip
there just didn't see to be much 4K movies/ tv shows.... I bought a 4K tv about 5 years ago in hopes that it would be introduced more heavily with new programming... guess it's going to be like tv with 3D was 25 years ago.. it really never took off...

On a spec comparison, the new express 4K+ is a smart pick for 4K output.

He said in the video that you can get an ethernet adapter for the microUSB port, so this thing can theoretically do wired ethernet.
Great info and review! Thank you very much!
Thanks for the update and awesome information 🙂

The Roku SE [standard 1080 edition] is now on sale at Walmart for 23.99 instead of the 29.99 listed if anyone is interested.
The 4K plus is 25.99 now on sale
Hi Philip, does the Express 4K+ include the Auto-Adjust Display Refresh Rate advanced setting (from the Ultra) to enable 24fps playback?
That was interesting to notice on this video that there's is a dedicated button for Apple TV on the remote. This will be perfect for a bedroom TV!
Why does the front sticker say to point the remote to the unit? I just bought one and it's sitting behind the tv and it works. Isn't it rf on the 4K+?
Will the 4k+ work okay on a non-smart tv?
When will Roku update the streaming stick plus?
I had the Amazon 4k fire stick from 2019 , should I expect any quality or sound improvement from the Roku express 4k+ .
They're both budget streamers
how does this compare to the Roku 4k Stick?
Same just better remote with voice controls
So one would want a 4K device if one has a 4K tv.
Yes.
You need a 4k tv to see content in true 4k, but there really isn't much 4k content available.
What if u already have a Roku tv but still put the express in it will one cancel the other?
Nice. Thank you
Can I watch Paramount + on the Roku 4K+??
So you're telling us that Cord Cutters News can't be bought for 29.99. Good for you :)
Does it support Dolby Atmos in Netflix?
Yes

@@CordCuttersNews I've heard, they removed TH-cam app also.
@@shiningwizard1 It’s still there
It does hbo max?
Hi and thanks for the question. Yes, this Roku Express 4K+, like other Roku players, works just fine with HBO Max!

Nah 4 k will definitely take off just like 5 g
With no third party side load capability, this is a big no no
