I don't want to be the kind of person who leaves a comment simply to announce that they are the first person to leave a comment under that thing, but I have also never had the opportunity to do and am honestly really excited about the prospect of being able to do so now. Also, thanks for the video. I used to study and work with animals, but ended going in a different direction with my career. Your videos help me keep my animal trivia fresh so that I can keep being the animal buff amongst my friends. So thanks. Also thanks for signing my jacket at Nerdcon.
Chickens were my favorite animal ever! Unfortunately, I had to give them to a wildlife sanctuary because a neighbor's dog kept getting into our yard and chasing our hens, and we were blamed. They are so personable, interesting, and just plain fun! It's so rewarding to make them happy and see their natural behaviors! Thank you for giving me my daily dose of chickens!
Katie Ko I loved my old rooster, but my neighbors called the police because he sang during the early morning. My dad gave him to a local farm that could take care of him. As for the dog, thats what dogs do. You shouldnt be mad at the dog for chasing them. Also, my favorite animal is the fox ( which sadly eats chickens) but I love chickens too :D
The Wild Yeah its true, it's annoying that the owners were irresponsible, but we were blamed. Aw, I'm sorry you had to give him up! Roosters are so beautiful and I appreciate their singing a lot haha. My friends always say that hens in the morning singing is annoying, but I tell them that they did what is basically giving birth, I'll let them sing all they want.
Katie Ko Ikr! My dog buddy never chased my rooster or any of my hens. The rooster also had many chicks, 7 to be in fact! He was an indian rooster, with glossy orange feathers and a shiny black, green, and purple tail! not sure wha exact species he was
Most animals do! Some just don't recognisably show it most of the time (cough cats cough). You provide it with food, protection, safe environment, and the chicken knows it!
i love chickens. they're so sweet and people don't realize how smart they are. i'm glad you all can give these chickens a good home, just because we benefit from chickens' egg or meat doesn't mean we shouldn't give them healthy living conditions and respect. i would love to see a video of your chicken set up!
My Grandfather kept chickens, & helped to develop the "Columbian Wyandotte" group. They're very handsome birds, with white feathers which are edged in silvery grey. Grandpappy (as he preferred to be called) brought us fresh eggs when he came to visit--& those eggs were delicious-far more so than store-bought! Boy, what I wouldn't give for some of those wonderful eggs today!
YES! You have no idea how long I have been waiting. I recall leaving a question on an older video about how to give my chickens an even better life. Now they're doing great and new plants are growing in their roaming space.
Kylie Ann Yeah, something's wrong and she can't walk. I didn't want her getting picked on or frozen to death, so I brought her in. It happened back in November, she's actually doing better now.
Showing off some beautiful little chickens! I gotta say, so often the lovely colors and sweet demeanor of chickens are overlooked. They actually make great companions!
Thank you so much for providing such great resources! I've been considering getting chickens for a few years and I'm so happy to see you uploaded a video about them!
Interesting. I knew a lot but certainly not everything. :) I learned a lot working on a farm in my teens. My neighbor left behind a rooster and I love having him around. It's especially cute when he follows me around. - Heidi
I have to be honest, I only watched this video now (3 weeks later) because chickens... mmm... doesn't seem interesting, I thought. What a nice surprise, I learnt a lot. Great video!
THIS WAS SO COOL!! I've kept (mostly free-range) chickens for years, and I actually just got done writing an ordinal summary on Galliformes! And I'm finishing up a 15 page paper on the evolution of birds from theropod dinos for a different class - such amazing animals!! So excited to actually know most of the information in one of your videos!! P.S If you have a couple spare minutes I'd definitely recommend reading about megapodes, they've got one of the most interesting incubation methods in the order (or even the class!)!
I learned a lot. I used to think that a supreme being created chickens so we could catch one to eat. This helped me to understand that chickens were bread to not fly. So there goes that idea. Hehe.
Chickens are great animals. I just recently found that my bantam hatched some baby chicks! We thought she had got eaten only to find a pleasant surprise of 6 baby chicks, and 3 more hatching. The wonder of life
Chickens are my favorite!!!!! Can we please have a meet and greet video for all your chickens?? And can we see the coop too please?? And do the chickens do presentations?
interesting! grew up around chickens as a child, both at our former homes, and at both grandparent's homes. my favorite is the Silkie Bantum. they look like giant craft pom poms and have feathers growing out if their feet.
i showed this to my dad while we were building our Chicken coop in our new house and he was like "Hell yeah I'm excited for the new dinosaurs to come and see their new pen! D'ya think it's big enough for the t-rex?" XD I am laughing so hard
EZ Dee None of the gals in the video are rescues. Some of the older ones lay a lot of eggs, so we use them to feed a bunch of the animals: raven, tegu, foxes, us, etc. :) It's our way of making sure our food comes from a happy and healthy source.
In bornholm (a danish island), there's basically chicken poop bingo. You let a bunch of chickens out into a square devided up in smaller squares with numbers on them, and you bet on which numbers the chickens will poop on!
I'm thinking of getting a type of reptile. I really want to be able to take good care of it. I'd love a lizard, preferably, that is similar to an iguana that doesn't get HUGE. I was playing with baby iguanas in the wild (I always let them go) and I just fell in love with them. I've been researching on the internet and most of the lizards I've seen on lists are leopard geckos, bearded dragons, crested geckos etc. My friend and her sister already have the leopard gecko and bearded dragon so I really don't want to just buy one as well and make their pet not unique. But anyway, I'd like a lizard that is preferably herbivore, small size, but not as small as a tiny anole, and if possible, similar to an iguana. Does anyone have suggestions.
Leopard geckos and bearded dragons are, from what I understand, generally considered easy lizards to own and take care of, so I'd definitley consider them regarldess if your friend has them or not. Plus, if you're willing to spend a bit more, both animals come in a wide variety of colors and patterns called morphs so you could easily get an animal that may be the same species as your friend's but look quite different. If you're absolutley set on getting something that's a completely different species from you friend then I recommend checking out the channel Clint's Reptiles, he does a lot of reviews of different animals and rates them in terms of cost, hardiness, ease of care, etc. It's a good way of finding an animal that both interests and suits you.
hey i have a question, are lovebirds more agresive than budgies , some people told me that but i love lovebirds colors,. And can i get just one lovebird or any bird? ill give them a Lot of attention
I realize this is an old video, but I was wondering what sort of things you provide for chicken enrichment? I've just started keeping chickens this year, and I want to make sure they don't spend their days bored.
i have chickens and they are my whole life, i love love them so much. whenever they see me they come running so i think they might like me too. (or maybe they just know me as the one who feeds them lol)
Having chickens is diffrent to seeing chickens. They're opportunistic, sneaky, skittish and more. But if you earn their trust they will literally run up to you, call out to the rest of the flock you (or should I say food) have arrived, even let you hold them. Just remember to have quick and/or hardy fingers when they go broody.
i have a pair of bantams that are bonded i cant separate them or they will make a lot of noise it annoying when you have to bring one inside for a cheek up on its deformed foot
I love your shirt. Btw great video. I recently got two chickens and I love them to death but they chirp a lot. Btw when they r chicks(2-3 weeks old) how can you tell if they're male and female, bc my mom will get rid of ours if they end up being makes and I really love mine.
What I know about chickens is that they induce time travel. For example, when we used to have chickens I'd go outside to feed them, watch them for what seemed like MAYBE 10 minutes, then go back inside to find that 2 hours had gone by! Too weird.
What kind of chick is the one you are holding at the end?? I had two show up in the forest near my house and they now stick around. One of them looks just like that one.
Well, thanks I appreciate it! The other one is white with a big ol' tuft of feathers on its head. Don't expect you to know what that one is, though. You are awesome!! :D
I don't want to be the kind of person who leaves a comment simply to announce that they are the first person to leave a comment under that thing, but I have also never had the opportunity to do and am honestly really excited about the prospect of being able to do so now.

Finally! Someone saying "FIRST!" in a funny and original way. I applaud you sir!
I love my chickens but never expected to see this what, where, and how. Keep up the great videos!
Wesley Frank same
Wesley Frank me too!!!
Wesley Frank I had to give my chickens up because the neighbor didnt like the rooster singing:(
The Wild I have 3 roosters in an urban Area and no one cares

But can chickens feel love? Because I love my pet chicken so much and I think she loves me lmao.
Most animals do! Some just don't recognisably show it most of the time (cough cats cough). You provide it with food, protection, safe environment, and the chicken knows it!
I had a rooster for 17 years. They love and create bonds with select humans. And they are smarter than they seem. I guarantee it.

i would love to see a video of your chicken set up!
i'd like to the the chiken room to
Those things are morons
It's no surprise that to a woman a chicken is smart. After all, they used to be "dinosaurs". LOL
Hey!! I have that shirt!! I ordered from you!! And also the chick was mimicking you at the end.😊

Yay a chicken video! I have a chicken in my house right now.
Wingedshadowwolf in???
Kylie Ann
Yeah, something's wrong and she can't walk. I didn't want her getting picked on or frozen to death, so I brought her in. It happened back in November, she's actually doing better now.
Wingedshadowwolf Awww I hope she feels better
Wingedshadowwolf what happened? Dog attack? One of mine were attacked by a dog
I'm getting 14 chickens this next weekend! I'm fixing up an old shed for their coop and building on a 20'x10' run. So excited!
I'm late for the party, but how are your chickies doing now, two years later? :-)
I love how vocal that little hen was at the end. I didn't think hens were particularly vocal. My cockatiels were listening intently.
Showing off some beautiful little chickens! I gotta say, so often the lovely colors and sweet demeanor of chickens are overlooked. They actually make great companions!
I don't understand why you don't have more subscribers. I love all your videos
AAAAAA the peeping noises are so cute
Please consider doing a duck video!
cystalmoonlight yes
cystalmoonlight Never had a duck, but always wanted one
cystalmoonlight Also, I dnt know if she has a duck, correct me if im wrong
I can't look at ducks the same way after seeing Ze Frank's "True Facts About The Duck". I'd go so far as to say that it's NSFW.
Thank you so much for providing such great resources! I've been considering getting chickens for a few years and I'm so happy to see you uploaded a video about them!
How about a "Pigeons! What, Where, and How" episode ? That would be cool.
Yes! This is my favorite episode, no bias (okay, a lot of bias haha). Chickens are wonderful, hope to see more of them in future videos!
i need that shirt

Cheep, cheep, cheep, piyo, piyo~ so cuteee!!!!
Wow, I never knew that chickens came from so far away. Amazing!
Do you keep your chickens for eggs, or are they rescues, or both?
EZ Dee Pretty sure tey are pets.
EZ Dee None of the gals in the video are rescues. Some of the older ones lay a lot of eggs, so we use them to feed a bunch of the animals: raven, tegu, foxes, us, etc. :) It's our way of making sure our food comes from a happy and healthy source.
AnimalWonders Montana that's cool. Btw I love your channel.
AnimalWonders Montana understanda-WHAAAAA!?...you eat them?
Zeke Lé Geek I mean, one day I'll eat one of my hens (when she gets older)
The chick at the end cried for mum.
That little chicken at the end is so cute! I want to know more about her :)
your information makes me want to have a chicken as a friend

Could you do a what/where/how on ducks? Their eggs are so tasty! And they quack!
Wow! Really interesting!

and can you please make a video about quails?

Chickens are more intelligent than people think, they also communicate vocally and have specific vocal accents dependant on the area they live.
I was learned to hold cockerels or hens with the hand beneath the body and the legs held between my fingers. It seems to calm them a little more.

3:43 cuteness overload
maybe you could do the rest of the video on the most common chicken breeds, like isa browns and silkies? :D
hey i have a question, are lovebirds more agresive than budgies , some people told me that but i love lovebirds colors,.
And can i get just one lovebird or any bird? ill give them a Lot of attention
I call my cockatiel my baby dinosaur
You should do a video on animal hypnotism, I hear chickens are popularly susceptible to hypnotism
I realize this is an old video, but I was wondering what sort of things you provide for chicken enrichment? I've just started keeping chickens this year, and I want to make sure they don't spend their days bored.
I want all of your shirts!
Everyone's talking about the shirt but does anyone know what breed of chickens the smaller one's she was holding are?
i have chickens and they are my whole life, i love love them so much. whenever they see me they come running so i think they might like me too. (or maybe they just know me as the one who feeds them lol)

awesome kemosabe shirt
Where did you get all those chickens?
I have a lot of chickens about 50% of the facts you said I I knew
I would love to see a ferret what where and how video!
i am just wondering, what are the names of the chickens that you brought out in this video?
Interesting!
Eggscellent Video.
Thank you!! I have been wondering for literal years why chickens lay unfertilized eggs, but all my googling came to naught.
My brother had chickens. One female took over the coop and became the sole egg layer.
Ah, The Pecking order, one of the weirdest things about raising chickens.
Was the chicken at the end a juvenile? What variety was it?
How do you bond with a chicken?
What I know about chickens is that they induce time travel. For example, when we used to have chickens I'd go outside to feed them, watch them for what seemed like MAYBE 10 minutes, then go back inside to find that 2 hours had gone by! Too weird.
wow just got here clicked out then back in then pop a video
Chickens are the best animals
We keep chickens as pets but we still eat their eggs :D i looooveeee theeemmmm, my dad tells me i feed them too much but i just can't stop XD
What kind of chick is the one you are holding at the end?? I had two show up in the forest near my house and they now stick around. One of them looks just like that one.
Brad Miller She's a Rhode Island Red with some of her baby feathers still on her head.
Well, thanks I appreciate it! The other one is white with a big ol' tuft of feathers on its head. Don't expect you to know what that one is, though. You are awesome!! :D
I gotta ask... was this video inspired by the Dear Hank and John podcast episode where they talked about random facts about chickens?
I'm thinking about getting some egg-laying chickens.
please do a what where and how on blue tongue lizards!
I have 6 chickens they're all girls and I love them so much
The talking ape component is exactly like echolocation in bats. I have no other way to explain it.
they are so cute
When I was 8 I asked my dad where chickens came from. He looked at me and said "Eggs."
We don't talk much anymore.
