I may just be an emotional person, but your version of this song made me cry. It's such a beautiful song. I'm in the process of learning it so I hope I don't break down and start sobbing when I perform it.
This is the best version of this wonderful song I've found! No offense to the choral versions or other types of performances but it seems better with just 1 voice & 1 instrument.
Ed, I first saw this video of yours in 2008, when I was 19 years old, and it really resonated with me. I don't quite know why - maybe it's the timeless simplicity of a Stephen Foster melody, or maybe it's the way your style of playing and singing do it such justice. Or it could have something to do with the fact that I'd never heard the song before, and it made me think of my Grandma, whose name was... you guessed it: Annie. Either way, I enjoyed it then, and over a decade later I still sometimes remember it and go back to give your performance another listen. In 2008 it was quite a novelty to be able to type in some search terms and instantly pull up a video that somebody halfway across the country had just recorded in their home. TH-cam was simpler then, and to my mind, intimate performances like these - simple expressions of somebody's love for music and their willingness to share it with whoever might listen - were the best thing that TH-cam has ever had to offer. Best wishes, and thanks for adding a little light to the world.
I accidentally discovered his voice singing Lithanei and his voice touched my soul with each word in an emotive way. I pull out my music score and music stand so that I can play and sing the songs I have always wanted to play and sing Schubert's Lithanei again.
I am currently reading about the 1840's-1860's in the United States, and Stephen Foster came up. Absolutely amazing, I have no words; you have captured the sound of an era quite well! I must add I have no musical background but this sounds amazing.
My brother has just passed away, and this song, your rendition, lets me feel what I need to feel, grieve as I need to feel. It's simple, direct, elegant, unpretentious, beautiful. I thank you.
Caught me off guard on this one... I saw a grey-haired guy in a plaid shirt sitting at a piano and thought, "eh...". Played it anyhow, and he absolutely knocked my socks off! Absolutely fabulous.
Lovely, really relaxing and moving; I appreciate the warm and free way in which you sing. Just the right balance of beauty and resonance and control, with naturalness and expressiveness
Just listening to this again; I love how you sing this, it suits your voice perfectly; so beautiful and soothing; makes the world feel like a better place while I'm listening
Hey Ed, Thomas Hampson could´nt have better done. And above all you accompany yourself, which is amazing. This comment comes from Germany and I´m a singer myself.

Looks like a wonderful ancient songbook. Wonderful performance. I enjoyed very much.
Thank you!
Excellently performed. Stephen Foster wrote some of the best American music and you have just nailed this song, I’d bet he’d approve.
Thank you
