    custom choppers coming with a 2 row head you would probably finish in time to start planting again

    Did you guys put down any crushed cement or gravel for your bag pad? If so does it work out well and not rut up in the spring?

    • @leuenbergerdairy6038
      @leuenbergerdairy6038  ปีที่แล้ว

      We did not was breaker rock and lots of gravel then lime. When it gets muddy over the years we have to add some gravel here and there but it isn’t so bad. Certain spots tho do get a bit muddy!

    • @karlherzog3979
      @karlherzog3979 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah just contemplating doing something like that or a tar pad for our place. The issue we have here is holes develop and they just keep sinking no matter how much gravel you put in them

    Great awesome video. Why the custom crew when u have the harvester with a corn head ? I just think it’s another expense to get a custom crew

    • @leuenbergerdairy6038
      @leuenbergerdairy6038  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yes it is but can get everything chopped in a week compared to us taking who knows how long to chop it all. Plus 90% of our corn is 20 in rows our chopper head can only do 30 in.

      @@leuenbergerdairy6038 ya we do it differently we traded our 900 with a processor in for a dion with a 3 row kemper head. We go much faster , plus we chop 100 acres for our dairy cows , we milk 150 cows , we use harvestores for all our storage. 7 silos

    • @leuenbergerdairy6038
      @leuenbergerdairy6038  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah we are recalling looking into a horning head for our fp230. Don’t think the 140 would be able to handle a dion chopper! But very nice love seeing ways different farms do it! But I’m glad we do bags over silos! But each have there pluses and minuses!

    • @farmshoffman8475
      @farmshoffman8475 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@leuenbergerdairy6038 we don’t have much issues with the harvestores we have a maintenance program that goes over them every two years . Guys are good. We use our 30 by 100 for corn silage . 5 20 by 80 for haylage from 1st to 4th cut , and one 20 by 90 for high moisture barley and grain corn 🌽

      Very nice! Glad to hear! Bags for us just work a lot better! We made 3- 10x300, 4- 10x250s and almost have another 10x250 done. And did a pile too and we think that would be equivalent to 2 more 300s!

  • @codyh3890
    @codyh3890 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would just say heck with the custom guy and do it yourself and save yourself some $$ if you aren't afraid of some work... Takes time but money saved is money saved....

    • @leuenbergerdairy6038
      @leuenbergerdairy6038  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well we plant 90% of our corn in 20 inch rows so we aren’t set up to chop that with this head. Would take way to long to chop it all ourselves. Might be looking into a rotary head so we could do a lot our own

      @@leuenbergerdairy6038 I ran a new holland 824 head for several years, what's the problem with the head?? Seems like I hear either a gathering chain that's not tightening up or drive cog jumping.

    • @leuenbergerdairy6038
      @leuenbergerdairy6038  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well we have had several things happening. Slowly getting them worked out. First gathering chains not tight coming off sprockets and getting jammed. Got them all tightened up. Had a bearing go out for cutting disk and it broke the disk plate. Then just little things here and there. Been working great last 2 days.

      @@leuenbergerdairy6038 the main thing with any of them heads just go through them before running them. Make sure all the gathering chains are spaced and timed right otherwise you will shear bolts when reversing the head, also underneath on the back side their are little gears just keep an eye on them make sure they don't move! I'm going threw mine right now, I run a 3 row on ours, I'm probably 2- 3 weeks out on chopping corn, I'm about 4 hours north of you
