Great looking car. She sits just right. 55's make the best looking gassers; 57's look wrong without the front bumper to me. Glad to see you didn't cut out the rear wheel wells.
I've been looking for a reasonably priced 55 for years to make a gasser and finally purchased a 55 gasser project no engine no trans. Can't wait for spring to get started. All the hard work is done just some body work and install the engine and transmission.
The '55 is still my favorite Chevy ever... This one is the way it's meant to be. Friends building it at home in their garage. Love it, love it, love it.. You guys did an awesome job. I was never exposed to radiation so you'll have to settle for two thumbs up...but I really want to give you 3!!!! :o)
So many builders radius the rear wheel wells for the bigger tires, it's nice to see one that leaves the real steel intact. I like them either way, but I know lots of people have a strong preference.
You guys did a great job building that 55, beautiful work. Like hearing the Wolfmans voice with the music. I still own & build hot rod's but that is my dream car, 55 Gasser !!
Very nice build. Kudos for keeping it accurate to the day but I gotta say the way they did the front ends on the old gassers is a little scary. Be safe & enjoy.
Nice 55! I got mine in 1980 from my Dad. He got it in the late 60's. It used to be a drag car. I has similar ladder bars like yours from the 60's. I'll subscribe to watch!
Funny how when the taillight is removed its easy to see how the 56 evolved a little different. I like how cars just had little differences year to year . Tri 5's the 56 is my fav because of memories in my brothers car in 1970 _ 71 but 55 was the real gem of the 3 IMO.
since then we bought the car from him and are making all the necessary changes to make this car perfect. look for new videos coming soon including drag racing!!!!!
I have to say, what a beautiful job you guys did , the workmanship was outstanding. But I was under the impression that the "swing" hangers for the front axle went in the rear, and the stationary ones in the front. Just my thoughts.....GREAT JOB !
Saweet I have always liked the 55 & 56 Chevys more so than the 57's & Theres nothing better than an old school gasser !! lol . Keep her betwien the diches & off the wall . ROCK & ROLLIN LATER MAN
My brother is doing the exact same thing. Only a 502 four speed . He is 68 and does not look like he will finish it after about ten years . On S.S. disability and 20,000 short. Has all new chrome . Needs to do interior and prep the exterior for paint . Starts it in the garage and the house shakes .
Great Quick Straight Axle Build, & Green Onions from American Graffiti As Start Out Sound Track, Quality Parts & Workmanship.. Some one Where When Does Nostalgia or Gasser Only Drags Occur? Any More..... & It's NOT Boring Video To A Small Scale Vehicle Customizer, bcz We Can't Afford to Do It For Ourselves But We Can Feel Each Step of the way in our Minds... keep in mind I originally built this car for my neighbor the engine he put in it was a 327 that had sitting for a long time this was the first time starting it and such
I can't imagine how stressed out I would be before and during the cutting off the perfectly good front frame section. I've owed 35 cars and trucks since 1976 and I don't know how I've never owned a 55 Chevy. Always loved em, but never owned one. Maybe the next hotrod will be one?
C Smith he has a street tunnel ram on it they are a little higher then a race tunnel but on the street you want all that room on the other side of the carbs so when you get on it its there look it up street tunnels they are taller but raceing tunnels have bigger runners rather then longer
I had a 55 a lot like this when I was 16, back in 1976. I made $1.80 an hour part time. It has a 396 and a Muncie M21. Now all I can afford to do is look at them. What happened?
I see it's been a while since you posted this, but if your still around, can you tell me what did to get the rear end up that high? Did you move the springs to the top of the axle? Thanks!
Nice 55'. It looks like you guys had a lot of fun building it. One thing I've always wondered, is there any real weight advantage with the straight axle front end? I wish you had a before and after front end mod curb weight number on a car like this.
Rev the damn thing to 8,500 rpm and pop the clutch - shift at 9,500 rpm or when the engine starts sounding good. You'll need a 10.000 rpm tach to check your progress. That's what we always did. The 283's bored out to 301 cu in love lots of rpm.
all i ever dream of: building an american graffitti style beast in my suburban garage, taking it to town, cruise around, drive through a diner, burnin´apeshit at some traffic lights and let the good times roll...to bad that kind of thing is impossible in germany. neighbours here call the cops only after 5 seconds of v8 noise :-(
nice video..could you show in greater detail how you made the steering in your next video ?..I'd like to see how the steering box and pitman arm are used to connect to the tierod and axle..I'm building a gasser styled 40 Plymouth coupe and your video is one of the best I've seen yet...Thanks.
i would love to have a 55 gasser but my moms dad got killed in one and i would not want to do that to her...... nice car tho (i think you should take the chrome off the sides and round out the rear fenders) but hey its your car man ;D
love the 55s they are so sexy to me my dad has a two door post 210 prostreet with a nasty lsx motor with a turbo he has had it since he was 16yrs old its a fast bad ass hotrod im not a big fan of cutting them up like but its still a bad ass 55
Very nice build! I see you're in the Valley... Whereabouts you based at? I'm building a Gasser style '64 Bug, will look similar to a "Hi-Boy" altered when finished... The body is chopped 4", laying out the frame right now, plan on running a smallblock Chevy w/ Tunnel ram and Sanderson Zoomies... I'm in Mesa...
Wow - really cool! Front end could be a liiiitle bit wider, but that's just me. It's been years since this was posted - any updates? And is that a legit Motion Camaro? Sharp car either way
The straight axle came off on Old gasser and we plan on replacing it with a new one that is wider. And the Baldwin motion Camaro is not a real Baldwin.
Did you guys move the rear spring perches or anything to make the rear taller or did you leave it as it was shown in the beginning? We are building one too and love the stance you have. How wide of a rear tire did you use?
Great looking car. She sits just right. 55's make the best looking gassers; 57's look wrong without the front bumper to me. Glad to see you didn't cut out the rear wheel wells.
Beautiful double nickel

Love 💕 your 55! Fine job!!
That was a nice build. I kept waiting to see if you were going to radius the rear quarters.
Two-lane Blacktop, loved it.
I love the straight axle. 55's are my favorite car of all time. Super video, but personally I couldn't take all the back firing. JMHO.
I get it

Duel quad tunnel rams are very hard to get right, not ideal for street use, but they do look cool as hell.
