MTA reveals new electric buses, charging stations

- Some new buses are charging ahead on the streets of New York. New York City Transit said the buses will be in areas with poor air quality.
Diesel-powered buses currently run on most of the 300 routes. Sixty new electric buses are ready to roll from the Maspeth depot.

Ok, but there are no more diesel buses and there haven't been for about 10 years now. They are all hybrids or natural gas currently.
Unless the bus says hybrid or CNG, it's still a diesel, just clean air diesel. There are still over 3000 diesel buses in the fleet.

That was the case for most of the 2000s when the MTA purchased nothing but new Hybrid and CNG buses (except for the OTR coaches, which used clean diesel), but starting in early 2010s, they starting to revert back to buying new diesel buses (due to issues with the Hybrid tech at the time) and haven''t brought new hybrids again until just a few years ago.
Electric buses run on lithium ion batteries.....ARE CITY BUSES UL CERTIFIED as purposed by the state for lithium ion battery safety requirements for everyone who uses electric vehicles? Lithium batteries explode no matter what type of vehicle you use.
Newer clean diesel buses do not have an impact on air quality. The clean diesel technology ( which has been around since 2010 ) is already on the current diesel fleet ( which includes the diesel electric hybrids ) emits no smoke at all.

They switched over here in Prague to electric without issues. We have mostly teams, but in the outer areas of the city and when there’s bad weather such that trams have trouble stopping busses are used.
They have these just feet away from the MARCY AVE station on the J,M,Z line
These buses were supposed to be delivered during the Spring but it got delayed for some reason.
I guess the MTA hasn't seen just how poorly electric busses have worked elsewhere.

This does not work. When these busses break down, they are all but abandoned. The parts are in low supply and the maintenance is very costly.

1. So they have money for busses but cant fix the train stations amd they still bitch about people not paying fairs

NYC still uses diesel 😳...I thought they were CNG like many major cities....but with electric...god forbid a battery caught fire on the road ....just imagine how long the fire will burn

They'll be in the shop more than they're on the road they will not be able to handle the pounding of the city streets
how long will it take to a full charge? how many hours can a full chanrge run with a/c or heat on all day?

i think what MTA need is to have some of their bus drivers go under training again… such aggressive drivers on the road.
No talk of range or poor performance in cold weather, how about air conditioning in the summer draining the battery. Burning buses in London.

we already have 2 40-foot and around 15 60-Foot Eclectic Buses running in Manhattan, so far, they've only broken down once.

Electric buses dont do good in cold weather unless if they have some kind of a diesel heater installed to keep batteries warm. Having the passenger heater on drains most of the energy than having the A/C on. Also heavy passenger loads and
