Being W Yorks they have plenty of beautiful Victorian civic, commercial and industrial buildings scattered all over the Town. Time for locals to empower themselves and make their town great. THX
Lol its an absolute Shxt hole here in Dewsbury. Video actually does it justice 😂🤣 A town forgotten about. Only now having money put into it and the place to be revamped but will believe that when I see it.
I've never been to Dewsbury......thank you for the tour 🙂. I imagine that years ago with the woollen trade, this was a bustling and very busy town centre. Some lovely old buildings and looks to be a fairly large market.
Worked as a Saturday girl in Woolworths. Danced in the amature dramatics Collegians pantomines and musicials. In the 60s and 70s this town was buzzing and a gathering of brilliant Northern people. The market was visited by many. So sad to see this once brilliant place go down the tubes. Breaks my heart.
The building with the 'To Let' sign at about 10:37 opposite the train station was the Dewsbury Reporter offices where Patrick Stewart had his first job as a junior reporter when he was 15
Makes me cry yes to see my hometown I've not been back in 45 years and from what friends and family say I probably don't want to. Once a beautiful town with a market people came to from miles around so glad I grew up before everything changed. I still love Dewsbury but it's still the Dewsbury of old in my head. Thank your great video.
The market stalls were exactly like that when I was there 35 years ago. I can't believe Boots is still there after 35 years. I remember WMSmith was next to Boots. I really missed Dewsbury a lot. I moved around quite a bit in Dewsbury, Heckmondwike, Birstall when I was a student at DABTEC 35 years ago.
Compared to when I went to school in Dewsbury (I left in 1972) is a ghost town). People used to come miles to the thriving market. Now it's probably the cess pit of West Yorkshire.
Some amazing buildings and architecture shame that it’s been the underinvestment. Hopefully brighter future for Dewsbury definitely need to visit again soon.
My grandad,James harwood,a miner at Thornhill , Combes colliery ,& his wife Mary walked these streets before the great war,the buildings still remain ,but where is the heart & soul..?
An honest represention of the town centre as it is. Suggest the date of filming be prominent, a visit to railway and bus station to illustrate how we move around, and a prediction that in a decade the traffics fic will be a lot quieter. Great archive.
I have heard strange tales over the years regarding Dewsbury. It looks pleasant in many parts of your interesting video .Did you consider filming after 10pm on a Friday or Saturday night ? I have been told the unexpected regularly happens after a few pints .... and is now expected !
My old home town. Sad to see how neglected it’s become over the years. 😞 Thankfully various partnerships are starting to invest in the town following the movement of the college into the top of town, but it’s going to be a long hard slug to get it back to its finer days unfortunately.
It’s already happening. Various partnerships are currently investing in the town due to the movement of Kirklees college. It’s not going to change overnight, and certainly won’t go back to the old days everybody harps back to, but thankfully there’s progress starting to happen.
Yeah l left dewsbury 50 odd years ago live in London now. Likewise lot of people have moved up and down the country from other similar towns across uk. At least you will hardly see any homeless people which we encounter in the cities please look at the bigger picture. Live in peace and focus on educating younger generation.
What a ghost town and looks like it's been colonised.Such a shame as it looks like it used to be a thriving industrial English town. More like downtown Delhi now 😞
i guess the new burger place in town doesnt want any disabled customers seeing as theres steps and no ramp access , kinda disapointing in this day and age
Well that did not inspire me to visit Dewsbury!, some nice old buildings, otherwise na, and that girl/lady should really get some steps for the windows...
If a place becomes "overrun" by a particular group, there is always two reasons for this. 1. People moving there 2. People moving out. I just say White Flight. If people would be ready to live together in harmony and not always move out as soon as they see a few people from another skin colour, culture or religion, then there wouldn't be that many empty houses where this particular group can move into. People need to stand their ground and not run away as soon as foreigners move into the area. We should move together and try to live peacefully as one community and not to segregate ourselves all the time. As a Muslim myself, I adress the Muslims but also the British people with this. Both sides should be more open. I live in a mixed neighbourhood and we support each other as neighbours no matter what background.
@@DamnDealDone As I said... If people would not always move out as soon as a new group moves into the area, then there would be not that many empty properties so that an area can become "overrun" by a group. If the White British would stand their ground and welcome the new neighbours and vice versa then we could live together with respect and tolerance. Intolerance comes mostly from ignorance. The new group would need to adapt a bit without giving up their identity. The White British moved out of Dewsbury as they saw all the beards and headscarfs and that's why Dewsbury is maybe now overrun. The native community gave their own town up and now complaining about how it is now. People giving up and just leaving are same responsible for this situation.
@@abuismail9983 maybe start dressing and speaking English. Most don't. Why do we have to be subjected to people that won't and don't embrace the culture they live in. Also building super mosques in unsympathetic architecture amongst victorian architecture is a spit in the face of this county's heritage. Many buildings are suitable for mosques. We are not creating this separate community, you are. This is self imposed. We just leave once an area gets ruined. Notice though that poor and mentally handicapped usually stay in these areas.
I can't see much litter. The town is much cleaner than most towns nowadays and even the buildings don't look excessively rundown. Maybe there were just so much better before, I don't know. The town looks empty and boring but can't say it looks extremely bad.

the best pub is the West riding in the train station, you can have a pint then catch the train out
I grew up in Dewsbury. It was a nice place to grow up in. Now it just a shithole.
Why do you think that is
It might be a boring and depressing place but it is being kept remarkably clean. My respect goes to Dewsbury Cleansing Dept

You can still see the beauty -- my heart broke for the empty free library building but thank goodness it's still standing
We're currently filming places requested by our viewers so where else would you like us to go/film?
I recall getting stopped in dewsbury town centre for directions to the train station was this you?

Mine too hopefully the money brought in and the new Co-op upgrades will revive Dewsbury.
dewsbury is now an Islamic Ghetto. No amount of investment will revitalise this shell of s Town.

That's a hell of a big parking bay for the Lambo 😅
