I have an old TASCAM which has a microphone/instrument MONO mixdown switch on the top. I'm just here because i'm curious about the innards of the cheap Behringer. By the way, mine is now 15 years old and the last driver update is for Windows Vista, and i can still use it on 64-bit Windows 10 fine, just by force-installing the old Vista driver. I've done this with a few devices i the past, force installing 7 and 8 version drivers to work around Windows 10 audio wonk, though things did have a tendency to break for some of the cards for some reason. Apropos that, currently the TASCAM prevents my computer from hibernating, i have to unplug it first - i could write a service that suspends the driver if it bothers me too much, probably just a little quirk of a first product in series and Vista stuff. Also software output volume control on it from Windows mixer used to work up until several weeks ago and now no longer does. I keep wondering, is this going anywhere, are they actually adding any features, making foundational work that would allow to support fundamentally new hardware, or new software use-cases? Because it doesn't seem so, it looks to me like they've done the somewhat painful, necessary fundamental rework of audio system in Vista, fixed it up to near perfection in 7, basically largely left it alone in 8, but now they're just dicking around with it with no rhyme or reason. I never used to hate Microsoft, with some short-lived exceptions they have put a lot of thought into the product, but now i am growing increasingly disappointed.

How to make a stereo input at the linear level Why are you talking about two channels if there is one channel with an input resistance different from the resistance of the instrumental input

Hi there .. well I only use it for neatness and making sure it don't short anywhere .. there is nothing stopping you just using some pvc (electrical) tape or something similar really maybe kapton tape etc even some glue gun would be ok too 😊
@@Soooperspeed Hi. thank you so much. at the time i was really curious about that, but didnt really put any much more thought into any alternatives.. i shouldve thought before i wrote.. thanks man!
You could use even scotch tape or packing tape really. PVC electrical tape is IMO not really suitable for much anything. 3 years down the line you might find a shriveled up hard piece of PVC banging around in the box and no insulation. Kapton tape is perfect for use in devices, i LOVE it. Heatshrink is perfect too, at least wherever it isn't too hot, so it's perfect here. But scotch or packing tape... the tape material itself is a suitable insulator, it's polypropylene. The glue is not rated to use on circuits, but in this here, everything is either super low voltage, or low enough voltage and lots of current limiting, so what's the worst that can happen... if the glue grows slightly conductive with age and the device grows a bit of buzzing or some other issue, it's maybe a sign that you need to replace the tape, take it off, wash the surface carefully with something that will take the glue residue off (isopropanol, ethanol, even lighter fluid, just as long as you don't let it sit long enough or run under electrolytic capacitors), but until then, you don't really need to worry about anything, and it might never come to it, it might be good forever if you're lucky.
