The Suspended Step of the Stork (1991) by Theodoros Angelopoulos, Clip: End - Telephone pylons

The Image: The wonderful long take of those seemingly endless telephone pylons being reconnected by seemingly never-ending men in those nasty cheap yellow plastic suits. (15, actually I think, but the tracking shot seems to uncover more and more men as it roves along the shoreline!)
The pylons seem to span the horizon. Somehow it reminds me of Calvary or those grave men who would live on top of poles for religious reasons for years, Stylites I think. (See my amusing version of Simon Stylites here: )
And the last shot (my thumbnail @3:27) framing Alexandre the reporter standing dead centre on the desolate Greek shoreline looking I suppose at the Albanian side of the river as the camera pans away...
You could tell that is Theodoros Angelopoulos a mile away - so resonant, so lonely yet so beautiful. Greek too, somehow.
