*Considering that 'Sir Macca' could buy BOTH BLOCKS with change from out the sofa-cushions, it's remarkable how 'Cavern' is in such financial difficulty*

the Cavern was demolished in 1973, that's just a theme pub for tourists built in 1984 under a new shopping arcade. If it was the actual Cavern there is all kinds of heritage money available and the council would support it. But they don't . Go figure. It's sad when anyone's business fails but there are countless genuine businesses facing the same problems. It's Liverpool's Loch Ness monster i.e. just some money making bullshit for tourists.

it's in the exact same place.. with the exact same bricks. Give over. So many great musical acts have played in the 'new' one, including Paul Mc Cartney. Let people just have a bit of happiness.

As I recall, it was demolished in the early seventies so that the Merseyrail loop line for trains to Wirral could be constructed. At the time the "original bricks" of the Cavern were allegedly sold, auctioned or raffled as souvenirs for fans & collectors. After the site was filled in. for some years the land was covered with gravel and may have been used as an unofficial car park, but that was not the purpose for demolition.
Then in the eighties, I think it was the Royal Insurance who built an office block on the site with a split-level shopping arcade. They had a competition to name the building / arcade and on its opening they published a free, commemorative booklet about its history. There was even an unofficial Beatles / Cavern shop and museum of sorts on site, which may have been run by the former Beatles fan club secretary.
So, the Cavern you see now is not the original and is not in the exact same location. There are too many steps to descend and when you leave these, you are facing the wrong way. So this replica which possibly could use some of the original Cavern walls in some way, is lower than the original and is in the wrong direction.
If it provides a reason for people to visit, then long may it survive

I see alot of angry comments about how this is a replica cavern, but I don't see why people are so upset. The original cavern was a ticking time bomb, falling to pieces and a massive health and safety risk. They rebuilt the new cavern after tearing the old one down. They used the same layout and same bricks and everything. Loads of special people have performed there since.

    • @retrocysper3709

They could've just rehabilitate it instead of tearing it down.
Tearing it down and building it again doesn't make sense.

@@retrocysper3709 Tearing it down and building it again makes perfect sense. It was damaged beyond repair. If I remember correctly it was torn down I the 70s due to lack of money and not built until later

The original was filled in during the 70s & a make shift car park was put on top of it which was replaced not that long ago with a cookie cutter new build commercial building.

There's nothing wrong with building a replica of the Cavern Club in the same street as the original, as a Beatles theme venue for tourists, as long as you make it clear that it *is* a replica, and not the original Cavern Club. They could have called it the New Cavern Club, for example, or "The Beatles Experience". But they talk about it and present it as if it's the real Cavern Club, and that's dishonest and fraudulent. The owners should actually be charged with fraud ("obtaining money by deception").
