As a retired teacher -- this does my heart good --- these children are going to be the 'change' we need to see in this world for acceptance and inclusion of ALL people - big or small - no matter the color or culture -- GOOD JOB, kids!!!

I am a 5th grade teacher and this gives me great hope for our future, that this generation showed empathy and initiative to make a difference.

That’s our future, thank goodness for this teacher too, she encouraged them instead of being negative. I have tears after hearing Reese Riley. I’m sharing this beautiful story.

Wonderful story, it does give hope for the future. I am a parent of a wheelchair bound 5th grader and I applaud what these kid's have done. The issue I have is that in this country of unlimited opportunities, and fat paychecks in the superintendent's office, why does the school district not provide these resources from the get go? There is a cartoon with the janitor shoveling the steps and the kid in the wheelchair asks him to do the ramp first, to which he says, "when I'm done so these folks can get in", to which the kid replies, " if you shovel the ramp first we can all get in". We need to start shoveling the ramp first.

This is so touching. Because I'm wheelchair bound, my heart feels what those kids must've gone through and the joy they feel from their accomplishment.

Adaptive equipment is a great first step toward inclusion. The challenge for wheelchair bound students is to find avenues for inclusion in other areas. I hope all students with special needs can be put on a path that sets them up for success in life. Good luck kids!

What an amazing story. The school teachers and kids are a great example of how we should all be working to make things better. Wouldn't it be great if out congress and senators had this same attitude. Just think of all the good that could be done.

And those kids are the future leaders of this country. How cool is that?! If only adults in Congress could have that kind of drive and ambition to get things done for the people of this country.

The power of children, is highly under rated!!!
Adults could learn alot from them...if we would only listen!!!

I hope there’s a company that makes this equipment for playgrounds, sees this story, & gives them a discount. These kids deserve it!! So do the ones that the equipment is for!!!

Wholesome in a way that kids of Gen Z and younger are more compassionate and empathetic than other generations.
Not so wholesome is the fact that thousands of schools LED BY ADULTS all over the USA are basically shrugging their shoulders and telling kids everywhere, "oh well, we have the money but we're not gonna spend it for the children it's intended for. If you want it, you'll have to do the work and use your own money and means."
Applaud the kids but ask the adults in charge of these school districts why this wasn't already in the works to build.
Hopkins Public School District (Minnesota) has an annual revenue of $139,521,000.

No they are not more compassionate than other generations. I don't know how old you are, but the generation you are part of does not determine your capacity for empathy and compassion. What you have in your heart and in your mind is what determines it.
And before you think I haven't experienced the feelings you have, I am 67 yo and still experience them. When I saw the segment, I immediately wanted to send money to that class, but my reality is that I am on retired on a pension and my expenses use up most of my money. So I find ways to use my time to give to a project like that and don't let my reality keep me from giving.

    • @Fairygoblet
      @Fairygoblet ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah, but as a person who has been in a wheelchair their whole life, it's also good for the kids to see how much they can accomplish with teamwork. It's also good for the kids with disabilities to show what their classmates are willing to do for them. So it has a silver lining. I can't wait for the day when everything is accessible, but until then we have kids like these.

I know this is probaly a horrible joke. But you do realize that they are kids right? Kids who care about their classmates. So maybe don't go ''omg what a welfare state we live in''
