It's funny how people hate their hometowns but when they see it from another perspective they can find something beautiful about it. I'm not from Sunderland neither from the UK but I went there and I think I've never felt more welcome so feel proud of the place you come from.

I loved this video you put together. I dont care what anyone says im proud of where I come from and as for the "weak" comment well that was weak coming from you!! None of my family are weak...my grandad worked hard everyday down the shipyard and my dad served in the army my mam has been a nurse from the age of 18. All very strong people from Sunderland. Keep up your good work :)

Wow what a fantastic video, my home town and I'm proud to say I love my home town. Once an industrial capital of the world forced to down skill and adapt, and adapt we all did. 10mins from rolling fields of rapeseed to stunning clean beaches. Anyways you captured the raw beauty it once was to the easy going beauty it is now 👌. Thanks

Know exactly how you feel, I emigrated to New Zealand from Sunderland and lived in Mount Maunganui in the Bay of Plenty. It is a beautiful place on the Pacific coast with miles of white beaches. I returned to Sunderland after 2 years, found I was missing the place, particularly the coast Roker and Seaburn, see it in a diffextent light now. It was sad the shipyards closed but the river is shown in a good light from Wearmouth bridge with the university, the glass centre and the coast. Good video Penshaw and Hylton Castle looked the biz.

I'm in the scenario of working down south as a aircraft tech for 6 years, I used to enjoy being in a different places but have realised even within its flaws, that Sunderland is close to my heart.

I’d be wary of wishing too much for ‘escape’. I ‘escaped’ nigh on 40 years ago (work called me away) but the words of the Rush song ‘The Analog Kid’ still echo in my heart: “When I leave I don’t know what I’m hoping to find. And when I leave I don’t know what I’m leaving behind “. I get back ‘home’ (& it will always be my *real* home) whenever I can & it brings my heart some ease, but I’m painfully aware that though I still consider Wearsiders ‘my people’ I’m no longer one of them. I’ve been away too long. And that saddens me.

never be sad mr if your a wearsider then thats what you are and dont feel or think your not one of them anymore or you dont belong because you do its in your blood like your family blood it stays with you till you die

I was born in Sunderland I’ve lived in Australia and now live in the United States. I saw practically nothing here that I recognize of Sunderland other than the beach. No views of the city, Roker Park, the people, crowds. A lot of trees though.

Just watched this and can empathise with the feelings you have. It is a place which is suspicious of change and looking forward. The default setting for a lot of people is to accept what is and take comfort in the negative.
I think that a better city centre with people working and living there can change this. Sunderland has so much potential and so many positive attractions.
Are you still living in Sunderland?

    • @sj-30000
      @sj-30000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Because like a lot of city's, it doesn't get enough investment.
London gets all the money, that's the be all and end all City in this country, when really, the wealth should be spread out to improve the country as a whole.
People might just feel better about the places they live in, and also feel good themselves.
But certain people are too greedy, and egotistical to ever let that happen

I appreciate the fact that this is a personal video for you. I used to resent my hometown too to the point of having escaped it more than once, right now I feel better about it and more at peace. I guess it takes some distance and time away sometimes to re-appreciate things again.
    PS: Are you okay? 😅

I was born and bred in Sunderland, but you showed very little of it - where were the people, the parks - Barnes and Mowbray? You also included areas that weren’t even Sunderland at all.
It has changed some much over the years - it’s heart ripped out with the passing of shipbuilding and coal mining 👎 And now the prospect of further job losses at Nissan. It’s a ‘town’ that is a shadow of its former self !!!!!
