Casa Quetzal offers some of the most expansive views for one of the most dramatic vistas in the Puerto Vallarta area including the mountains, jungle, and Bay of Banderas. Road noise is non-existent with birdsong prevailing and the fountains scattered throughout the house provide a gentle undercurrent of tranquility.
Five bedrooms, all with exquisite ironwork surrounding each bed, are named for Mexican birds, like Chuparosa and Cacique. Bedroom walls are subtlety colored to match the riot of hand-painted tiles in each en-suite bathroom. Furnishings are museum-quality antiques with added splashes of brightly colored throw pillows from Chiapas and Oaxaca. Ancient huipils are framed, and huge terracotta pots fill corners. Interesting and imaginative artifacts are tucked everywhere yet without clutter.
The kitchen, with six-burner gas stove, is designed for work. It is a large but dedicated space, with room for storage and foodstuffs available within arms-reach of the central Talavera-tiled island. Food is served outside the kitchen on an open patio overlooking the tropical jungle and the sea, or in the dining room. Under a vaulted Boveda ceiling, the dining room table comfortably seats ten; the artesenal touches in the dining/living room are extraordinary.
The master bedroom takes up the entire top floor of the residence; the master bath occupies half that. The sunken jetted tub finished with blue and white Talavera tiles on all three sides with a step up to an outdoor shower, is exquisite.
Over 8,500 square feet of living space devoted to capturing the essence of Mexico’s history has been lovingly cared for over the two decades of its existence. The canterra stone is spotless as is the unusually deep, infinity swimming pool. The ironwork throughout the house is flawless, including outside. The heavy wooden doors inside Casa Quetzal move with ease as do all the indoor/outdoor trifold wooden doors on the broad stone terraces. The attached garage is large with adjacent maid’s quarters, laundry and storage rooms. There is a cozy space with a large-screen TV and also a small gymnasium.
Greenery and fountains are everywhere, as are delightful niches and wood carvings; oil paintings; Mexican antiques; hand-painted tile baseboards and more.
