    I watched this as a white belt years ago. Now I’m a purple belt and the principle in this video is my go to for guard retention. Thank you so much for this

    Hip escape + half roll. Nice and simple! As a white belt who is still figuring out how to incorporate the movements during warm-up into application on the mat, this video was really helpful. Love your channel Firas!

    • @MetalGamer666
      @MetalGamer666 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've usually seen it without the hip escape. Just invert and swing your legs around. The detail to get the hip in first was really new to me, and makes a lot of sense.

    Firas, thanks for posting this video, the little details make the biggest difference! I was getting passed like this by the higher ranks because I wasn't making eye contact or getting my hip off the mat. Keep up the great work, it's videos like this that fire me up to train the next day! You're the man!

    Great video Firas + Tristar. If I may ask/suggest something for future technique videos, It was great getting the weight/force lines on screen and that you drilled left and right variations - however I find it hard to conjure in my minds eye how this would look at mma speed. I appreciate the complicated and tactical nature of bjj, and that it must be broken down to fully understand, please don't mistake me! I would just love it if after you drill and explain some variations, you showed a variation of it at combat pace at the end (though not power of course!).
    Keep up the great work! ♥

    Coach Zahabi,
    As impressive as your jiujitsu is I am far more impressed by your teaching. This video is fantastic. Very effective lesson on the more abstract meta-concepts of guard pass prevention that isn't obsessed with establishing a closed full-guard like every other video. Couldn't be more impressed by how you presented this. A quick question if you don't mind: I realize there are a lot of exaggerated movements for the purpose of demonstration but at 4:28, the position looks quite vulnerable. I loved the anti-G&P demo from awhile back but could you please give a video about G&P defensive meta-concepts like this video?
    I hope all is well,
    Nak

      Your response made my week. It's been a rough one. I poorly phrased my question. What I mean to ask is how does the application of these concepts differ in a striking context? (if at all) Are certain things not available due to hand position to protect from strikes?
