I just retired from the Navy and have my wife, mother , and sister flags at my ceremony. Definitely using this design when I build their boxes. Great video!!
David, thanks for the complement. Remember that Standard Military Ceremony flags are usually 4x6. A little larger than the 3x5 I used in this video. You will need to go bigger or take a look at these (link) . These were a pair of large flags and show a little more detail on making the height and with of the flag work. I love your detailed videos. It inspired me to design and build a challenge coin rack combined flag triangle for a commanding officer farewell gift. I found it challenging as in Australia we don’t fold our flag that way, so I got creative with a unit flag. Thanks you and keep these types of ideas coming.

The reason I found and watched your video is that I'm going to be building a flag display enclosure for a HUGE U.S flag which a friend of mine received and covered the entry way ceiling of a US military front line combat medical facility in Iraq. The reason it was attached to the ceiling was so the first thing wounded or sick personnel saw on a stretcher or gurney as they came through the tent entrance was the American flag over their head. I'm thinking your display might work for me.

Jon, this flag is very heavy so I'm thinking it will have to have a heavy [say 3/4" frame], It's going to be displayed in a veterans building. I have a beautiful length of birds eye maple which I'm considering although I think Oak might be more traditional.. not sure yet.

We just buried our son SSgt Robert E Scruggs an Army Iraqi disabled veteran I have chosen to use Cypress which is close to a hardwood with nice grain and finishes well I have used this for several projects I do like your design and will add a separate base with an engraved nameplate thanks for your video.

Davhid, :-) No, the the pressure of the flag and the foam behind the certificate were enough to hold and keep pressure on the glass and hold it into place.
I had no idea that the 22.5 and 45 degree angles were so difficult and can't cut with my table saw it's a deep angle cut I have never been expose to this before so I built a base did 45 degree on top and bottom and screwed the base in from the bottom then cut 1 inch trim to hold the glass in still in progress will try to send picture in future thanks
I used mahogany. Bought it at Home Depot. I think all stores carry it. Measurements are all focused around the size of the flag. Build the box around the size of the flag.
Buzz Kill, the dimensions are not standard. They are based on the size of the flag. That is where the video starts. Measure your flag first to get a base line for what your measurements will be. Are you still using a DeWalt DW745 table saw? I was surprised to see you using a dado blade, I was under the impression the DeWalt DW745 doesn't support a dado blade?
Rudi, Ok the manual says that you can "NOT" run Dado blades with this saw. (safety issues) I did not consider using dados before I bought this table saw and regret that I forgot to look into this option. . I own a craftsman dado blade set from Sears. I use this all the time. Due to the short bolt on the table saw, I can only get up to 3/4 of an inch width of blades. I just put the large lock nut on without the washer. If you plan on using a dado set all the time, then for safety reasons, I would look into a different model that supports dado blades. Over all this one is not designed to. I still use my dado blade all the time but in good conscience I can not recommend this table saw you to if you are going to go against the manufactures recommendations. On some of the links below I use the Dewalt dado table insert. I bought the insert on Amazon (for another saw), the size seems to be standard so it works, just need to reverse you fence so you are not cutting over the left side gap. I'm just a home diy'er and can not afford another table saw, so i just make do with what I have. Jon, when cutting glass never go over the cut line twice. Do it once in one go and the glass will break cleanly. Nice flag box

I have always read that gloves should not be worn when cutting on a table saw. Seems like good advice.
