If I recall correctly, Robert Smith of The Cure said he listened to this on his wedding day because he thought it was one of the most romantic sounding records he'd ever heard so in terms of choices of songs for specific days, I think you've knocked it out of the park here hahaha. They are certainly difficult to describe without using the typical words and phrases, but one thing is for sure that they created a remarkable soundscape.

This is the best cocteau twins album in my opinion. The most diverse and interesting songs that stand up to annything produced today just like you said. It was the last album I had gotten around to as well, and i'm glad you could get around to listening to it. Great reaction!

Your reaction to them is everything. I've been a Cocteau Twins fan since '85. It's heartening to see that their magic isn't lost on younger generations. The song I want played at my funeral is Pink Orange Red.

Ok, now you've hit the mother load. Cocteau Twins are my all-time favorite band, and I'm not just saying that because I got to know them personally. Everything they ever did was great. There are only 3 bands, that existed for at least 8 years, that I can say that about. Led Zeppelin, Cocteau Twins, and a band called Dead Can Dance.

CT questions the importance of lyrics when the music and sound is so divine.

There was an alternative radio station in my town back in the 80s and they played all of these British indie bands.
It was quite extraordinary. Those years when information travelled so slowly, especially when you are in South America. Records of indie bands were almost non existent around here, and when you found the things that you wanted to buy, they were so expensive (imported), impossible to purchase anything. Great reaction man. Greetings from Brazil.

    These words might help:
    "non-linear "
    "abstract "
    "Surreal "
    "non-cohesive "
The cocteau twins do not want you to understand. What do they make you feel?
    Feel that
    ❤🎉😊

As for the lyrics, it's based on Lorelei - a siren of Germanic legend whose singing lures Rhine River boatmen to destruction on a reef.

One of my favorite songs by them! I've been listening to the Cocteau Twins since the 80s and never really delved into her lyrics because they, imho, represent part of the music moreso..either way, you're right, she sings beautifully, she is a beautiful person too..check out Sun Signature, her new project

"Arty farty"! I love it so much. I was right there smiling with you 😁 I knew you'd love it and so glad you did. Totally agree with you about it being more about feelings with CT. They put me on another plane and I don't even know what they're saying.

A quick look through all your videos and I can't see if you have done and Dead Can Dance - Lisa Gerrard is another 'voice' to be reconned with! ALSO have you done anything from Cure's Pornography album yet? If not - what are you doing? 🤔🤭

I'm not sure if you've got the lyrics right? Liz Frazer used neologisms as well as actual words.
Yes, it has a commercial pop sound cross-pollinating with baroque, folk and punk sensibilities. Guthrie's guitar is always fascinating but Raymond's used of keyboards really works well here. For me, it's all redolent of Victoriana and Celtic folk sensibilities.
I agree there's a sensuality about Frazer's painfully pretty, breathless vocals. I was always impressed by her vocal range and the plethora of styles and sounds that Frazer could employ, with apparent ease. In a Similar way to Lisa Gerrard.

The best track from Treasure. But in my opinion, the Heaven or Las Vegas album was their masterpiece.
P.S. When are you gonna get round to the Jesus and Mary Chain? Just Like Honey, Some Candy Talking or April Skies highly recommended.

I always love when you come back to CT. One reactor who truly gets them and appreciates them. I don’t know that those are the actual lyrics though lol. I’d take them with a a grain of salt. They never published any official lyrics.

Laura Lee is the bass player for Khruangbin. This is Lorelei, a name in the English language that has an "i" sound at the end. Otherwise, carry on!

I'm going to suggest Styx's song "Lorelei" (1975), for no other reason than the obvious.

  • @Az777

The video for this song is pretty strange and makes it even better, imho.. btw, it's pronounced Lor-a-Lie. The band Styx also had a (rock) song called Lorelei that was awesome a few years before the Twins came to be.
