    Sneezing in blue tongues is common because they use it to clear debris from their nostrils after burrowing. It could be that the carpet fibers tickle her nose and she sneezes from that. My skink will sneeze after she burrows and it's the cutest thing ever! I've had her for 5 months and she is my Depression Lizard, totally worth it.

    • @Noturaveragenugget
      @Noturaveragenugget 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      My Indo BTS does the same thing! I’ve had him for about two and a half years, and I call it “sneezing” but it’s really just them puffing air out of their nostrils to clear debris like you mentioned. An actual sneeze would involve the mouth opening and imply a condition affecting the nostrils such as RI or another kind of infection, blockage, or other. I had him taken to the vet and they confirmed he isn’t sick - it’s just how he is. And that his “squeaking” (he very clearly chooses when to do it and when not to) is also fairly normal and not anything wrong! It’s so cute, but he never shuts up about how everything I offer him isn’t to his standards.

    • @Ya_boi_jasper
      @Ya_boi_jasper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me reading this: 🤔
      My rat: 🤧**sneezes for no reason**
      Me: 🤨”bro you good”
      My rat: **sneezes again**
      He probably has like brain damage because my parents refuse to buy from anywhere but the pet store and those things are inbred to the max. He also has like… seizures when he gets excited. Full body spasms. Not sure if it’s actually seizures but that’s what I’ve called them since I got him last year. But I thought it was funny he sneezed as I was reading a comment about sneezing

    • @WhosA1Trick
      @WhosA1Trick ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s possible that olive is/wad under less stress than the other skinks and as a result the others were more timid//less “sneezing.”

    Petco looks to be getting slightly better about their reptile care these days. I went there earlier this week to buy mice for my snake and noticed that they had two different enclosures for the baby bearded dragons and both were there largest enclosure size. The top one had only 2 baby bearded dragons and both had their own spot to bask (or at least they were attempting to bask on them as I couldn't see the light setup) and the other one just housed a single bearded dragon.
    The basking spots were too low down compared to the top of the enclosures but at least they weren't putting too many in one enclosure. Also they gave a bowl of those tiny worm/ larvea things that are like a cm long and a bowl of fruit/ vegetable mush

    • @kattheyak

    Hey now, as an owner of a local exotic pet store, I take pride in how our animals are presented and cared for. Setting an example for the community is incredibly important and we make sure the supplies they get is correct before they leave the store with the animal. Some of our animals are wild caught. I'm not going to pretend they're not. But we still try to keep them in as close to what they should go home with. All we can do is try our best and work on producing our own captive bred options as time goes on.

    7:52 It's funny that you say she doesn't know her name, my blue tongue skink knows her name and will come over when called. Even if she does just think she's going to get food out of it. They're one of the easier lizards to train I think if you don't count monitors.

    • @Noturaveragenugget
      @Noturaveragenugget 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It’s shocking how many misconceptions there are about training reptiles - they’re fully capable of learning but it varies depending on the species so people tend to assume it’s not worth it and over time reptiles aren’t really seen as much beyond display animals. I’ve seen so many instances of reptiles having learned to do things - beardies, monitors, even snapping turtles - respond to particular stimuli in a clearly trained way.

    • @bigplant2635
      @bigplant2635 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Noturaveragenugget there’s even videos online of people target training snakes. I think the vast majority of reptiles can be trained it just varies on the individuals will to learn. Just like how it varies with dogs. For instance my blue tongue that knows her name is also tap trained where when she hears tapping on the floor she’ll come over to the sound.

    • @Noturaveragenugget
      @Noturaveragenugget 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bigplant2635 Oh I don’t disagree! Reptiles are capable of a lot, I just believe there’s variation in what they’re capable of on a species-by-species basis as it works best to hone the skills they already have.
      I think my phrasing was a bit off in my first reply - it’s definitely the owners choosing not to invest time into the animals to train and whatnot as they may not feel like putting in the time or just outright think it’s not possible. It just upsets me seeing so many “display” reptiles that don’t get that kind of interaction and stimuli in learning and so become potatoes when they’re capable of so much!

    I have a an Eastern blue tongue skink, I got her as a baby and she's 13 years old this year. She is a bit of a princess with regards to food, will only eat snails , banana and sometimes mushrooms and broccoli and just refuses to eat if she doesn't like it. We let her free range the house although she has a large tank which she only uses for basking. She likes to climb up the sofa and crawl into my pocket when I'm on the computer. She was named 'Lizzie' by my kids (yeah, I know its lame) and is also quite sneezy, but she is often crawling through dust bunnies on the floor so that is probably why. She seems quite smart for a lizard.

    • @blazertundra

      Look into target training and choice based handling. If he's target trained, he might begin to make the connection that other people can be bearers of food if strangers can have him touch a target for food. Also probably just tell people to not touch his tail ever if that's a specific trigger for him.
      Keep in mind it could be a personality issue. Even my sweet, friendly corn snake who has done educational programs is definitely a "one person" kind of snake. If she has to be perched on someone, she would rather it be me any time. I'll offer her to climb onto someone else and she refuses most of the time.

    I am a reptiles and amphibians fanatic and I live in Australia and I have my own blue-tongue skink his name is mochi blue-tongue skink 1 blue-tongue skinks are native to Australia and Asia but mainly Australia I would guess that olive is a eastern blue-tongue skink like my mochi 2 olives seems to be a little bit small but very close to an adult blue-tongue skink. I have a licence and everything to own this particular lizard and have done a lot of research so I hope this concludes a some of your questions you stated in this video

    she looks like an eastern blue tongue rather than an irian jaya, which is quite odd. Irian Jayas usually have thinner bands compared to easterns. They are pretty uncommon outside of here in Aus.

    I recently got a blue tongue skink for free from a sketchy pet store and mine also has missing toes lmao. I have her/him on cocoa substrate and they also get the little build up on their mouth, doesn't seem to bother them very much though is it a concern ?

    Dude, I've been following your channel for quite some times (you were still helping) and what the hell is happening? Why is the view count so low??? What are those rookie numbers? i don't get it, the subject are still about reptile and interesting (not all to my taste but that's a me problem) but where are the million views? Quality has gone up but no, did you upset someone at youtube HQ?

    • @GoHerping
      @GoHerping  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The channel performance has gradually fallen back to what it was 4 or 5 years ago but idk why. I think it may be time for the channel to evolve more drastically. Maybe people are finding it stale? Maybe too few reptile related vids? I'm kind of experimenting to see if it can be pinpointed on anything specific

      @@GoHerping I hope you will continue to do something you like and not something you're forced to do to stay "relevant". might be time to lauch a New channel, change you style of edit for something more fast like urban rescue ranch, people have the attention span of oyster because of tiktok.
      you do you, hope you will still be around for a bit more, you videos helped me a lot with my own reptiles

    In the land where they are indigenous to we call them Blue-tongued Lizards; skinks, as far as we are concerned, are the tiny lizards that run around. Blue tongues are not an endangered species and therefore do not require a wildlife licence to own. They can grow up to 60 cm long.

    • @HuntressWorgon
      @HuntressWorgon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We still need a license to own any reptile in Australia, including blue tongues, regardless whether they are endangered or not.

    • @anomalousnero
      @anomalousnero 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HuntressWorgon In South Australia, eastern blue tongue skinks do not need a license to be owned, same with shingleback skinks and central beardies. They are exempt.
