    Answers for Abharshit:
    "To which gear shaft is engine shaft connected?"
    This planetary gear is only for explanation. Any of three basic elements (sun gear or ring gear or carrier) can be connected to engine.
    "As which gear is driver and how driven shafts are connected to main shaft?"
    Shaft is conected to sun gear. It hase multiple kinematic states, as you can see on my video. Which element is driver and which is driven depends on kinematic state and direction of power flow. (Example: Ring gear is held stationary, sun gear is driver and carrier is driven element) In this model, there are not any bearings, input/output shafts, houses or anything else. It is not a gearbox. It is only explanation of planetary gear kinematics.

    .Thnx man. for the vid.my current course(mechanics of machinaries) is a very hard one if you physically dont see how the system works.my proffessor just gave a tons of math problem without explaining anything.you saved my life to tell the truth.

    Excellent animation. Maybe throw a timing mark (e.g., a dot) on the input and output gear/shafts to 'see' the reduction (skip the planet gears, just the carrier if it is rotation).

    very beautiful animation, questions below.
    assuming that you can change the gear size and teeth numbers.
    but limit the ring gear diameter ~ 3.5 inches
    if i set the planetary gear shafts fixed (as shown at 2:48) and i "manually" spin the outside ring gear as hard as i can, would it be possible to make the sun gear to spin the same speed as typical electric screw driver (~2500 RPM).

    HI, wats the software did you used to make this animation? Did you recorded the movie in original designing software and merging the video or you have done full animation in any animation software ?

      Hello, I created animation in original software (Autodesk Inventor 2013, 5-6 parts) and then i merged it in the Windows movie maker. I couldn't render full animation, because there is a problem with creating a long videos. But the animation in the original software is continuous scene, only camera moves.

      "Efficiency of helical gear is less because helical gear trains have sliding contacts between the teeth which in turns produce axial thrust of gear shafts and generate more heat. So, more power loss and less efficiency."
      "Advantages of the helical gearSilent operation: In a helical gear train, the teeth engage a little at a time rather than the entire face at once. This causes less noisy power transfer in case of helical gears.Non-parallel shaft: Helical gears can be used for transferring power between non parallel shafts. Though you have to compromise on efficiency in this case.Strength: For same tooth size (module) and equivalent width, helical gears can handle more load than spur gears because the helical gear tooth is effectively larger since it is diagonally positioned."

    Very nice, but your animation isn't right from 1:38 to 1:45 - the ring gear was going the wrong way.

      +Larry Panozzo It was moving the right way when rotational speed was slow but then as rotational speed increased, the ring gear and planetary looked like they were moving in opposite directions. I guess we both caught it-JJ

      +Larry Panozzo look up wagon wheel effect. Basically, the gear is spinning at just the right speed where the teeth look like they're moving backward rather than forward.

      Hi, driver gear varies trough animation (1.ring gear , 2.sun gear, 3. sun gear, 4. sun and ring gears ). I cannot drop music because TH-cam wont let me. Maybe I will make new (proper) video.

      Justin Williams Thanks for good question. Answer: It cannot function properly without carrier ("arms"). Carrier (frame witch connecting all planets) is one of three basic elements of planetary gear.You need to control rotation speed of two elements to obtain required parameters of third element. In simple planetary gear one element is held stationary (at zero speed). In differential gear you need to control speeds of two elements.

      Hi, I don't understand your question. It's not a gearbox. This is only a "planetary gear" animation.

      Ariel Lezen Planetary gear has many advantages compared to simple gear. Some of them: 1.Ring gear, Carrier and sun gear have same axis, 2. Higher efficiency 3. Higher transmission ratio than simple gear with same size., etc.
      Simple explanation: Planetary gear has 3. basic elements ( sun gear, ring gear and carrier with planets) and 4 basic states you can see in my video. First three states are with grounded one of the three basic elements. Fourth state is when all elements are free to rotate (differential).
      "I meant, if one gear is spun nothing happens to the others" - For example in time 1:33 you can see that sun gear is grounded. Now, if we rotate ring gear, carrier will rotate too in same direction.
      In time 2:14 ring gear is grounded. If we rotate sun gear, carrier will rotate in same direction again, but there is different ratio between them.
      In time 2:45 Carrier is grounded, now if we rotate sun gear, ring gear will rotate in some ratio in opposite direction.
      In time 3:18 all basic elements are free. There you can see on the start that, when ring gear and sun gear rotating in same direction with same speed, carrier will rotate in same direction with same speed . If we decrease sun gear speed (In time 3:36) you can see, it will automatically decrease speed of carrier too. In this state I can control speed of carrier (change of speed ratio between ring gear and carrier, this can not be done on simple gear)

      So when you say grounded, do you mean locked? If so why don't car or CNC router drill boxes get stuck under any load?

      Ariel Lezen Yes, you can say 'locked'. They won't stuck under load. For example: in automatic transmission there are three or more planetary gears and few clutches. Clutches (something similar to clutches in car with manual transmission) are used to stop one of the basic component on each set of planetary gears by connecting selected component to the frame. They should not stuck by themselves (only in some cases when we need it - self-locking differential). In simple gearbox, ring gear is usually part of the frame/box.
