Mark...do you ever wake up in the middle of the night, sweat on your brow, and find yourself murmuring, 'Hey there everybody, it's Mark Crilley, i'm back with another video...'.
Another engrossing and inspirational video, Mark. I've happily bought all your drawing books to encourage my son's (and my) continued interest in art. Brody's Ghost, as well ... excellent work!
Mark...you should do a colored pencil technique narration on how to properly layer color/blend different colors using Prismacolor. I ask for this request because it seems like when I color my drawings (mainly anime drawings) it seems to look rather plain and without depth mainly shadows and skin color. I also seem to be struggling with knowing what colors go with each other to add dimension to the drawing.
I really apprechiated the tip about pre-erasing the pencil-linework before adding watercolor. I don't use watercolor often because I suck at it, but I had quite a few paintings where I tried to erase the guidelines after applying the watercolor and obviously it didn't work, ruining the overall painting >.< Thank you for reminding us about that, it's easy to forget when you lose yourself in the process of coloring. And awesome drawing btw! :)
I like this concept, and I'd really like to see it done combining 2D and anamorphic 3D. That would really make it seem as if the picture were coming to life from the paper! Anyhow, great video as always, Mark :)
I feel like this question is more suited to one of your "I need your questions" videos, but the last one of those happened some time ago so I hope I'm not too out of place asking here: How do you impart life into the eyes of your characters? One of the most frustrating things that happens to me is that I sometimes fail to give my characters' eyes the spark of life and then everything feels doll-like and dead, pose n' all.
Looks beautiful as always. I want to know if there is a specific name to the style you used in the head of the dragon, with the little semi "spirals" , It always amazes me the sense of movement or fluidity it gives to the drawing. Also I would love that video on how to draw a chinese dragon :D
I love this! Your art is amazing!!❤️ I only have your graphic novel " the drawing lesson" and I love it, I can't wait till I get some money so I can get the rest, your videos have helped me a lot. Thanks mark❤️
Crilley! Hey, I've been following you and your channel for a few years and I love the way you draw! I'm a huge fan of yours. I hope you see this and answer me I'll be very happy. Keep up the good work and inspiring so much people!
Should have written "Reptiles" (1943), which is particular the lithograph I was thinking of-- it's not just a regular tessellation like, say, "Lizard" (no. 56) (1942). "Reptiles" shows lizards-- or possibly dragons, one is spewing smoke from its nostrils-- emerging from 2D to 3D, and back.
It would be cool for in another video if you did half the drawing in like realism black and grey and then the other half in flat cartooney color, would be cool to see the contrast.
Hey mark, I was wondering if you could make a video explaining what makes a good story. What makes, not just the main character, but other characters likable. What do you need to implement to create an amazing plot, and so on. There are so many stories out there where an important character dies, and all I do is yawn.
This playlist has 30 videos giving all my advice on how to make comics/manga; it includes videos about coming up with story ideas, writing, dialogue, etc: th-cam.com/play/PLBiW8y5LSHK4ajygBf6GBYC5KLBenvkaI.html
that moment when you ink your drawing and when you erase the pencil marks you missed a few spots and you have to try to remember how it was before you erased it
@mark crilley could you please think about a second camera. So we can see u working and talking to us. I just think it would be neat to watch u draw from that perspective.
I'm finally discovering different artistic techniques that will enhance my drawings, so I need a little advice on what to use. I would highly appreciate it if anyone would let me in on a certain brand to use for inking, a better colored pencil, anything that I could use would be helpful! Thank you, and God bless!
Hey mark, I've been a student of yours since I was 8 ( now I'm 13) it's my first request if you can teach us how to color the sky with any darkness of pencil or any color pencil I really need that for my last touch of my drawing
hey mark, i really like drawing and i want to improve my skills. My problem is that i often don't know what to draw. Can you give me any advice what to draw when I'm clueless? Keep up the work!
Realism has always been the most comfortable style of drawing for me. Of course, I've been drawing different things with different aspects but what I realise is that I can never draw a hand or any type of facial feature that look realistic. They either come out really wonky or just looks like an alien's hand. Any tips?
How do you attract such strange followers? Anyway, I had a thought that would make this idea even more eyecatching. I've seen someone on TH-cam doing 3D stuff, but make it even more stunning by, in this instance, having the dragon turning towards the viewer with plenty of foreshortening. It would be like it was coming to life. Just a thought. (I've bought your 'The Reality Challege' book last week: really good, I'm nearly up to crumpled paper!!)

The whole time during the speedraw I was chanting in my head "add gouache. add gouache." Then when he added it I felt complete.

Hello, Mark Crilly very good. Only thing would say not carve out of wood. For me more look more like chiseled out of stone stop before was finished :)
Wow! very Escher! much Lizards! such homage! (specifically to "Reptiles", 1943)
Mark did the Escher Lizard drawing. You can look it up on his channel.
Should have written "Reptiles" (1943), which is particular the lithograph I was thinking of-- it's not just a regular tessellation like, say, "Lizard" (no. 56) (1942). "Reptiles" shows lizards-- or possibly dragons, one is spewing smoke from its nostrils-- emerging from 2D to 3D, and back.
really helpful as always, thanks

It would be cool for in another video if you did half the drawing in like realism black and grey and then the other half in flat cartooney color, would be cool to see the contrast.

@mark crilley could you please think about a second camera. So we can see u working and talking to us. I just think it would be neat to watch u draw from that perspective.
This reminds me so much of Escher! I realise this isn't exactly what Escher did, but still!
