      I also love that moment when the frightened wife touches her Holy Bible for it seems to show that she is trusting in God so that the police would find her husband safe and sound! My entire family and I watched this show when I was a little girl, and we kids thought Broderick Crawford
      as Dan Matthews was cooool!!! Loved him!!!

      Back in 1956-1957, my best friend and I joined the LA Habra CA Junior Police. A couple of 12 year Olds wanting to be LEO's. After each week's meeting, we'd tune in and watch each episode of Highway Patrol.
      Yeah, we were even learning the 10-codes.
      Mathews was our hero.

      @@overcastfriday81 It's common knowledge Crawford was a DUI junkie. I don't know how many, but he got a few DUI's in just a relatively short period of time. For political reasons they couldn't support the show anymore.

    • @mickey1849
      @mickey1849 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Crawford wisely took an ownership stake in the show in lieu of a salary. He cleared an average of $550K/year while the show was on. When it went into post-production syndication in the 60's there's no telling how much he made. Remember, these were late 1950's and 1960's dollars. In other words, he got rich.

    These cars were so stylish and comfortable to ride in. But for the young people they had drum brakes. So they weighted far more than today's cars and had terrible brakes--bad combo. They had carburetors that needed to be cleaned/rebuilt on a regular basis instead of the fuel injection cars have today that never breaks. They had ignition points and a distributor instead of electronic ignition so that was always a problem. They had shocks that lasted 20,000 miles tops. Tires lasted 15-20,000 miles. Minor accidents often resulted in terrible injuries/deaths when today you are more likely to walk away from almost any accident.

      " Minor accidents often resulted in terrible injuries/deaths when today you are more likely to walk away from almost any accident."
      Modern SUVs that make up 60% of US-registered cars are tombs on wheels. What modern cars with safety features have achieved in lowering the number of fatalities, have been taken up by a higher number of crippled. 3 million people use wheelchairs in the US, 70% from traffic-related causes. Better die than live as a cripple.

      Before platinum plugs and fuel injection you had to do maintenance on a car driven any distance EVERY YEAR or it would deteriorate in how it ran and mileage.
      Now between platinum plugs and fuel injection, until a car gets to be about a decade old, for the good brands -- they just RUN. They start every time. All you have to do is change the oil and maybe change radiator fluid, etc. every 5 years or so, buy tires when they wear out, and you're golden.

    • @tralfazy
      @tralfazy ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes..all of that. In the 50s when we took a cross-country trip we always had some kind of a breakdown. The generator goes out (not alternator), a tire blows, the radiator sprang a leak etc. We expected at least one breakdown on every trip. Cars are far more reliable now (2023), especially the tires.

      In the USA, the nation so advanced that it put men on the moon and so backward that it still carries out judicial murder by the state.

    • @alphonsozorro7952
      @alphonsozorro7952 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Sootaroot It carries many other backward practices, like abortion, casual sex pandered to by statutory pimps, etc.
      Putting men on the moon had been surpassed by spacecraft landing on a distant planet, Mars, and spacecraft sent to orbit planets even farther, like Jupiter and Saturn.
      US technology can go only so far, and landing humans on Mars may turn out to be a NASA fantasy, wasting tax dollars.

    9:03 San Bernardino, California. Desert 60 Miles East of Los Angeles. Colton is out this way where MORGAN EARP is Buried at Huntington Cemetery off Pepper Street. I am from Maine but, lived in this area while Managing 12 salespeople for Best Foods Corp. Knorr Swiss Foods from Switzerland and USA Made food BRANDS like SKIPPY. BF MAYOONAISE. Mazola. Karo Corn syrup for Baking. Thomas' English Muffins. $40 Billion company. Today owned by UNILEVER BRANDS, WORLDWIDE. I loved the Food Industry and finding Lakes, Streams, Hot Springs and more on the weekends in California. Lots to do in the Desert if you know where to look. Lots of HISTORY. GUNSMOKE was filmed in some of these areas too but, also UTAH and beyond.

    As kids in the very early ‘60s, we kids would watch this show every afternoon at 2:30, followed by Cartoon Carnival on the same channel (there were only 4 local channels in our area). The gritty police drama made for an interesting contrast with the zany cartoons that followed.

    I like this "politically incorrect" Highway Patrol episode:
    1. Suspect has wanton disregard for baby trees, seen from 5:55-5:58
    2. close up shot of woman with a Bible, seen from 13:35-13:43, and from 15:35-17:36
    Abduction scene was filmed on Mulholland Dr. right at Coldwater Canyon Dr. It pretty much looks the same, even today!
